We never get a deal on the Cheers package  and being Canadian figure a 22% exchange rate.

So on a 7 day at $63.50 per day times 2 people times 7 days say $890 to round off. Average drink price $10 now, I'm thinking, that's 89 drinks in 7 days or 6 drinks a day per person.  Three to four port days for 8 hours each are removed from the equation.

So if my math is right, is it still a good plan to get a Cheers Pkg?

What is your or bar bill? Or what would it be if you didn't have the package?

We would never buy Cheers because:

    A) we don’t drink that much

    B) we’re already bringing 2 bottles of wine on for a 5 night cruise

    C) two days in port, so might have some drinks there.

    D) can’t see spending $500 for 5 days of Cheers, when we’d not drink anywhere close to that.

no menu at this link, just a general info paragraph that CCL offers 24 hour room service with some free items available

Well, Im glad that the earlier comment was mistaken.   BTW, it’s been awhile since we’ve cruised.  How do you order room service (not breakfast)?  Do you call?

If I remember correctly, for room service breakfast, you hang your order on your door knob.   But how do you order at other times?

  3. @CoasterGuy

it looks like the hot sandwiches have a charge. It looks like bagels, toast, coffee, milk do not have a room service charge

    room-service-breakfast-menu.pdf

and on CCL’s website, it still has the daily room service menu that shows the left side free and the right side is pay.

I was on Mardi Gras at halloween. Room service was a charge per item, no matter the time of day. no more free room service during the daytime and early evening hours.

There is no service charge for using room service, but nothing on the room service menu is free anymore, regardless of time of day.

Wow! I think you’re the first person who’s reported this.

    Edit:  see post below.

A question for those that already got the booster. Did anybody get an antibody (titer) test prior to the booster? I’m due for a physical, but after I was vaccinated, I had Covid. I haven’t gotten my booster yet (over 65), and I’m curious to see if I still show antibodies before I get it.

I got the booster a week ago, but did not get a titer test.  However, since you’ve been vax’d and then you got Covid, it would be interesting to see what an antibody test would show.

I'm a little confused. I said that was the policy on royal Caribbean.. one can get drinks and one can get the refreshment pk.

Celebrity went all inclusive .. basic drinks included though you can buy up one or two levels to more expensive booze brands.

Carnival doesnt have anything between soda pkg and cheers .. they dont offer other beverage pkgs

Rcl pkgs vary and have pre sales, we expect lower drink pkgs for black friday. Like 43 a day for drinks and 19 a day for beverage, 9 or 10 for soda. Etc. Maybe we shouldn't give carnival ideas on more dri k pkgs.  Lol

I like that carnival allows drinks up to $20. I like rcl allows you to start the drink pkg day 1 out of Galveston and also you can use you card and drink pkg on the private islands. Like I had cheers and went to mahogany bay .. but carnival doesnt allow you to use your cheers on the beach.  So there are many differences in drink pkgs. Some I'd like carnival to implement. Of course I want it all.

    Sorry for the mix-up.

Carnival also allows you to purchase bottles of liquor for the stateroom that would be cheaper than paying for individual drinks.

I would have to “do the math”.  Lol. Earlier I glanced at the prices and they seemed high.  I think I would rather just pay for each drink if Cheers wasn’t right for me math-wise.  At least that way I could have a variety of drinks...some with rum, some with vodka, some with Tequila, some with whiskey, some with liqueurs....and maybe a beer or two.

Some like to cherry pick this or that, but you have to look at the total cost of the cruise. I don't see many $25 staterooms on Celebrity or others.

NCL (and Princess) have options where a drink package is included, but NCL charges gratuities on their "Free at Sea", Princess doesn't.

People who try to compare one cruise line attribute to a different cruise line attribute aren't comparing apples to apples.

Agree. I’m just saying that the devil could be in the details.

While I may not like CCL’s policy about Cheers, I understand it.

Others can do what we’ve done and traveled with another couple where one doesn’t drink and we’ve “assigned” me to cabin with THAT person because I don’t drink much (the wine bottles brought on board are plenty for me).  But then we actually put ourselves really in the cabins with our own spouses.

But that isn’t any sort of deal.  I was thinking something like a cabin could pre-buy a 10 drinks per day pkg....which would be 70 drinks for a 7 night cruise.....and maybe pay $475...and either adult can use the 10 drinks per day.  So one adult could drink 2 and the other could drink 8 or each could drink 5 or whatever.

As I stated above carnival is not the whole industry. Rcl allows just one in a cabin to purchase the pkg, the other a non alcoholic pkg. Lowest I've seen the refreshment pkg is $20 a day, so 140 for 7 days for non alcoholic drinks ..

Celebrity and ncl include drinks. Celebrity has gone to inclusive.

Carnival is not the whole industry. They all do it differently.

But how much does Celebrity charge for their version of Cheers?  From what ive heard, CCL’s is the lowest.  So if Celebrity’s is more expensive AND they require the refreshment pkg for the other adult, then maybe it ends up being about the same as CCL with 2 people with Cheers??

edit, I just looked...their cheaper one is $59/day and their premium one is $69/day.

The Celebrity’s Classic soft beverage is $19/day.   So if a couple opted for one getting $59/day (cheaper liquors) and one getting $19/day, then maybe Celebrity has done the math and getting nearly $80/day is enough?
