I walked past those stairs at least 3 times before I realized, hey stairs. Of course they never ended up being the most efficient way to get to where I was going, but did use em once just to explore.

Our CD was Erin just in September. Wonder where she went?

  2. We're just in an inside room. I like the location but didn't necessarily see the value add in the extra cost for a balcony. The room does seem smallish though. Is there room under the bed for suitcases?

Previously cruised DCL and Carnival. Every cruise line is gonna have positives and negatives so I'm exploring what suits us best.

As far as the shows, I'm reading some ships require reservations is that right? Would I book the activity once onboard?

  3. Just booked what will be my first ever NCL cruise and have so many questions! Can you please tell me what you liked/disliked about this particular ship? I'll be on with MIL, DD and DS so I'm extra curious about family activities, booking dining, shows, and excursions. Also is the $50 excursion credit more like a gimmick (i.e. excursion prices inflated to cover the "discount") or comparable overall?

  4. I once used their price match and pointed out their excursion description said "a short walk from port". Since neither buying direct nor Carnival included transportation I was able to make an apples to apples comparison.

On the other hand the other excursion we did included transportation and several different stops. Pricing it all out separately plus transportation was a difference of $20 per person. I decided the piece of mind was worth it and in the end, the tour operator was a lot more knowledgeable and shared a lot more facts about the town than a taxi/uber would have. The added value of the overall experience was definitely there for us.

  5. We did this! It was such a nice surprise, and thanks to CC I had even packed some of my own tea bags expecting a sad selection. The upcharge ones were "two dollars point fifty." DD discovered a love for cucumber sandwiches, and it was nice to sit down and meet some fellow cruisers. Had I anticipated this, I may have opted for late dining tho.

IDK... I grew up in the west with In & Out, and I think the obsession with them is overrated. So it's a low bar to clear in my opinion to be better than them... 😅 But I still agree that Guy's burgers ARE better lol

I don't think In n Out is a low bar at all, I've eaten too many bad burgers I guess. I feel like a 🍔 should be at least as good as (or better than) In n Out or you can't call it a good burger.  Can't stand their 🍟 tho. I look forward to trying Guys!

I think you are missing the point. A hold is not put on the card itself, you are basically saying they lock the card from use. That is not the case. It is a hold AMOUNT they put on the card. Example $100 or $200 pp. Again, if that was the case you could not use the card for purchases off of the ship.

Where I'm from a hold on a card means the same as an amount hold. Where I'm from when a card is stopped from further use, that's a freeze or a block.

We do, we fly out of a United hub, will pick a non refundable $200 flight over a refundable $300 flight and take our chances.

Statistically speaking you're a lot more likely to have saved $100 than to lose $200. Over time, multiple vacations, even if I lose out the cost of one flight I will have saved money in the long run, I feel.

I live in a metro area rarely subject to weather delays, so I have better odds of being able to keep my flight or of any changes not having a great impact on my vacation.

Why don't the ships simply use metal straws? There have never been plastic teaspoons, nor attempts to make a biodegradable version of teaspoons, no people complaining they need a proper spoon for medical reasons, or people suggesting to bring your own metal teaspoons to the ship. And guests and waiters don't throw them in the bin, either. I don't see how a straw differs so much from a teaspoon or a glass.

In my experience working at a Diner, waiters and busers absolutely do throw teaspoons away. Never intentionally, but we were replacing teaspoons quite frequently. Servers would be rolling the silverware into napkins and we'd run out of teaspoons and we'd still have a large pile of forks and knives. Something about the weight and size of the spoon, maybe?
