    Greetings.

In a couple of days we will disembark from a cruise ship and need to get to Barcelona airport. We are offered transfer by the cruise company in a coach at more than twice the cost of a taxi.

How easily accessible and how close are taxis to the pier as we leave the ship?

Is it worthwhile to pre- book with a transfer company at slightly more than taxi cost and if so, any recommendations?

Thank you so much for any feedback.

    What cruise line?

All of our tours are prepaid except for tips. Do you tip in Euros or American money?  Sorry for the silly question! Our first time and trying to get all my ducks in a row!!!!!
    Thank you!

I usually tip in euro.  Figure how much I need for tours booked and get currency before I leave the US.

Easier for them to use their own money, less hassle for them.

    Hi All,

I am an experienced cruiser, but until now my cruises were all Caribbean, Mexico and Panama Canal itineraries.  This year I decided to try a Mediterranean cruise for the first time.  I have done a lot cruise planning, but this trip was really a challenge to plan!  I (43F) took my Mother-in-law (76F) and her two friends (74F & 75F) and so spent a lot of time trying to plan a trip that wouldn't be too much for them to handle physically. We spent two nights in Rome first and then boarded Symphony of the Seas in Civitavecchia for a seven day western Mediterranean cruise. We just got off the ship 9/28, and everything went great!  Maybe someone will find this helpful, so I've attached my detailed itinerary (I deleted a few details such as confirmation numbers).  Happy to answer any questions you may have.  Hope this helps you in your planning!

  4. Best advice I could give, be aware of your surroundings, try not to look like a tourist, as pickpockets could be watching, and this can be in any place around the world.  Just make the best of any situation, Italy and the world is beautiful, enjoy life while you can!

Ten hours in port is probably enough time, the biggest problem based on past experience is tendering is slow at Amador.  This is due in part to they do not use larger capacity shore based tenders, just the ship's tenders.  Traffic can be a little dodgy and unpredictable as well.  Really all comes down to your comfort level.

Is the person you spoke to, Anne Gordon?  If so, they probably offer the most authentic of all the Embera tours. Not that the other villages visited routinely by the cruise ships don't present a genuine picture of the lives of the Emberas, because they do.  But Anne Gordon's village is the real deal.

Anyone have contact and or website info for Anne Gordon?

  6. What a great thread, some lovely pictures Terry, and some thoughtful information. And Tony your video of the trek to the fort is certainly fulfilling.

However I think it has made us realise it may be a bit to much for us.

People, Is there enough in Kotor to walk about and explore for a few hours with a stop or two in the cafes there.

I know there is the main square to visit and cathredral and some scenic walks amongst the town.

Is there enough to do and explore without the walk up to the old fort or visiting Perast or Budva?

Or do we seriously need to look at these options?

The walled old city is wonderful, just a short walk from the dock, plenty to do right there, food, shops, etc.

  7. We used Private Greece Tours both last September for our Athens tour and again in early May this year. Both experiences were excellent. Last year was our first visit to Athens and our driver Alex, along with our guide Villeas did a wonderful job of showing us the city. They both were very knowledgeable and made the trip so much better than if we had been on our own.

Any thoughts driver vs driver & guide on private tours: better experience with the addition of a guide or could the tour have been just as good with only the driver?
