  1. Good morning everyone. Yesterday was warm and beautiful. Today we’re supposed to get a lot of rain towards evening and then tomorrow it will cool off. Lunch out yesterday was wonderful. Beautiful garden and great food. Stay safe everyone, Caro
  2. Good morning everyone. I continue to have to fool CC to post here but now that I learned the trick, I’m ok. That’s a great collection of days. As a 6 year survivor of breast cancer I definitely recommend yearly mammograms. It seems my daily struggle with companies continues. After four or five calls I finally got the vascular Opthomologist to fax his records to the referring Opthomologist. Then I had to deal with my bank who sent an electronic check to the lady who helped me with the insurance. After 10 days she still hadn’t received the check and the bank suggested I cancel the check and pay a $30 fee. I had to wait to speak to a supervisor and explain that the bank sent the check and it wasn’t my fault that they said she received it when she didn’t . They agreed and waived the fee. Today it will be my flood insurance policy which is complicated because the condo has a master plan and they pay first for the outside. They have a $50,000 dollar deductible for the whole place and then a million in coverage but the board decides who should get money. My insurance company is checking it out today. And so it goes. Planning to take Sam out for lunch today because we are expecting great weather. And yes, before I forget, the aide tested negative for covid but they will do a test every week till he’s two weeks past his second shot. The salmon recipe sounds great. I’ve often made it with some Mayo and Mustard and bread crumbs. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  3. Good morning everyone. Sam is bald and our son is on the way, but not happy about it he is having some expensive procedure to try to reverse it. We ordered in some Chinese food yesterday that was filled with MSG and none of us were able to sleep. Our daughter is taking Sam’s convertible to be inspected today. It hasn’t been driven since June so I’m hoping it will start. Otherwise it’s a quiet day. We we’re in Nassau on a cruise many years ago and it was right after a hurricane had come through. The devastation was terrible to see. We spent the day at a resort which seemed to be ok. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  4. Good morning everyone. I am coping what I wrote last evening at the end of the day. An update on the unvaccinated aide. He is a very nice guy who was afraid to get vaccinated until the last possible day he could work without it. In his wisdom he asked Sam to accompany him for his second shot which made us laugh. How is Sam supposed to get them help or home an hour away. The agency has apologized profusely for not checking this whole thing out but they say we were in such a turmoil when we fired the last person they didn’t think to check it out when he said he was vaccinated. So today they sent their nurse to do a covid test on him and will do so every week till 2 weeks after he’s vaccinated. Of course it’s too late for us to do anything to prevent us from getting sick from him. He did quarrentine for 2 weeks before coming here. He exposed us and my daughter and her husband so we’re just hoping for the best. Unbelievable, but on the bright side, he’s a very nice soft spoken guy and Sam really likes him, so as upset as we are about his only having had one shot, and not telling the agency we’re now just crossing our fingers. This has been hell for us for 4 months. I was going to change agencies but the owner of the other one told me my long care insurance company owed them $48,000;and lost all their paperwork. That made me stay with what we had. These aides make $12 an hour so how bright can they really be ? It’s very difficult to get help now in this business as well as in others. People don’t want to work. I am paying three times what he makes and the agency pays their office staff and keeps the rest.

  6. Good morning everyoe. I can certainly relate to frustration day. The new aide seems very nice, until we found out that although the agency knows we want only fully vaccinated people, this man was vaccinated yhe day before the deadline for home health aides to be able to work. So, he had one shot of Moderna on 9/29 and his next one is on 10/29, an hour ride away. He does drive and has his car here, but he asked Sam to go with him for his second shot. That would be almost laughable if he wasn't serious. And who is going to take care of him when he ha a reaction. We didn't think to ask him until he had already been here four 4 hours unmasked. it's too late now for us to worry about catching something from him. Of course, the head of the agency apologized profusely. I'm so frustrated with this agency and getting decent help is so difficult. I love the sound of today's recipe. Anyone think Matt looked like his heart wasn't in Mondays game and he kind of lost on purpose. Maybe school started up at Yale and he wanted to go back. He certainly knew some of those answers especially if I did. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  7. Good morning everyone. Happy Thanksgiving day to our Canadian friends. I’m up early today to get ready for our new aide. Hopefully this one will work for us since we’ve now had five and the one we really liked hasn’t been heard from since she left for Ghana for her father’s funeral. Much to do. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  8. Good morning everyone. Thanks Rich for clearing up the Columbus Day holiday which I was sure was Monday. Sam’s father owned a deli during world war 2, but then bought a newspaper route. He used to go out very early to pick up the papers and the delivery boys who helped him. Terry, thank you for your kind words and thoughts. I had lunch out with the ladies under a tent and while it was a tad chilly we all managed and it was a lovely treat for me. When I got home, I found that Lori had returned Sam to our house and he is doing unbelievably well. We have a new live in aide coming tomorrow but I don’t think we will need him for too long. The trick will be to find someone for a few hours a day. That is hard to do these days. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  9. Good morning everyone. I love today’s quote and can’t wait till I can enjoy life more than I have in the last 4 months. We’ve been to Quebec many times. The first was a land trip and then a few New England / Canada cruise. On our land trips and pre cruise we’ve stayed at LevChateau Frontenac, a beautiful place. On our last trip we celebrated our 60th anniversary pre cruise. It was raining everyday pre cruise but I managed to scooter to our favorite restaurants for lunch and dinner. Sam is returning early from our daughter’s house because he says he’s missing me. That means we will be here for two nights with no aide and I’m a bit nervous about it but hopefully it will be ok. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  10. Good morning everyone. We need eggs here and since I just ordered food and forgot them and we don’t go into stores, it will be a challenge to get some. Love George Burns joke. Sam left here last night to spend a few days at our daughter’s home. We fired the aide who was sweet but there is a saying that you can’t fix stupid. I think the problem is they pay them $12 an hour. Too many examples to go into. Monday morning we are getting our first male aide. We are hoping he will be good, but we’re still waiting to hear from the fabulous aide we had who went home to Ghana for what was supposed to be two weeks and she’s been gone since August 30th. Both the aide and we have tried contacting her through what’s app with no success. Tomorrow I am having lunch outside with some women because one of our neighbors is moving. We will be eating at a local Italian restaurant that has a tent and heaters. Prayers for all those on our prayer list and those who don’t think they need them also. Stay safe everyone. Carol
  11. Good morning everyone. I continue to have to fool my iPad to get onto this site. Yesterday we completed the forms to transfer our timeshare to our daughter and now I have to read the rest of the instructions and send in the forms. Nothing on today’s schedule. None of us, including our daughter really likes this aide but it’s very difficult to find good ones because their pay is so low. As soon as we can, we will go privately instead of an agency and will pay the aide directly. Still waiting for our wonderful one to return from Ghana but she doesn’t answer our calls or texts on what’s app. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  12. Roy, haven’t you been waiting for those PET scan results for a long time?
  13. So sorry you hurt your back. I would give anything to be in Venice now.
  14. Good morning everyone. Nice collection of days. We are doing something extra nice today because we are transferring our time share ownership to our daughter for the nominal fee of $0 . It’s a Tanglewood week in the Berkshires that we have owned since 1982 but feel we won’t use anymore. She’s done so much to help us so it seemed like she should be the one to get it. Teachers are our hero’s. They teach each generation and we can’t do without them, I taught learning disability children for ten years in the inner city of NY and I got quite an education. I left after being injured 3 times and opened a private practice which I maintained from 1982 until I retired in 2009. As for story telling, I studied hypnosis with The New York Milton Ericson Society and many times hypnosis was story telling and ego building. Stay well everyone, Carol
  15. Good morning everyone. I have solved the CC issue by searching first for CC Holland America forum and then signing in from there instead of the apron my ipad. Yesterday was a number ten day for Sam and me. We had a visit from two grandsons who are two months apart in age and love playing a game called Magic The Gathering which they played for most,of the afternoon. They were accompanied by two of our children and our son in law. We spent a lot of time outside until we were bitten up by mosquitoes and then had dinner and birthday cake inside. The day could not have been more perfect. It ended with our friends bringing home some deli sandwiches and the fixings for Sam to have today. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  16. Good morning everyone. A very nice quote and collection of days. We will have 3 generations here today as we celebrate grandson Jared’s birthday. My son and his son, Matthew, my daughter and her husband and the birthday boy and Sam and me. Yesterday we had 10:people sitting outside around our driveway and extending into the street. Sam was so happy to see everyone. A bunch of women are taking out a friend next Saturday because she is moving. I’m only going if the weather is ok. The restaurant has a tent and heaters so I’m hopeful I’ll be able to go. No eating inside for us. Weve been to St. Lucia but I have no pictures. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  17. Good morning everyone. CC is acting up on my iPad again so I had to go around it and under it to fool it into letting me post. It’s 47/degrees this morning but sunny with a predicted temperature of 77 today. We’ve begun cold nights and cold mornings . What does a day of frugal fun even mean? Anyone watch Jeopardy? I love Matt who has won over a million dollars and I’m holding my breath every night watching him and how smart he is. Sam has settled in well and we like the new aide so all is fine . Stay safe everyone, Carol
  18. Yes, our repair service was especially great. I think he knew about Sam and went out of his way to help. We’ve been good customers and purchased our air conditioner and furnace from them about 5 years ago on the recommendation of my son in law.
  19. I can always tell your posts without even looking at your name. Love all your great cartoons.
  20. Good morning everyone. Love all the days. Yesterday was busy and exhausting but Sam settled in and is doing very well. He was too tired to go out for dinner to celebrate our grandson’s 16th birthday so we will do it Sunday. He did have an hour and a half face time conversation with our grandson who turns 20 tomorrow and shares Sam’s love of music. Our furnace wasn’t working yesterday even though it was serviced last week. The owner of the company came to see what was wrong and discovered it needed a part with a chip. Not unexpectedly, he couldn’t find it locally and parts with chips are causing issues from shortages of cars, ovens and anything that needs a chip. He found the part in Delaware and someone drove it up here and they will be installing it this morning. What great service. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  21. Good Morning everyone. Someone is fooling with my CC again and I'm on the desktop. Today is definitely the long awaited arrival of Sam back home. He'll be here in the early afternoon and we have tentative plans, aide and all to celebrate our grandson Jared's 16th birthday with dinner out. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  22. Good morning everyone. I start every day with a cup of coffee , but only one and that’s it for the day. Love the quote. I love all Broadway musicals and living so close to NYC as a child, I started seeing them when I was very young. My first was called High Button Shoes. I was so taken with Rodgers and Hammerstein that I wrote a paper about them when I was in high school. I also had the opportunity to meet Susan Rodgers, daughter of Richard many years later. When I was in college in Ohio, I saw Mary Martin in person. She sat at the edge of the stage with her feet hanging over and took requests. Today is my last day alone since Sam comes home tomorrow and we are invaded by a new aide who we can’t manage without, but we both hate having someone living in. Hopefully it will only be for a short time. Stay safe everyone, Carol
  23. Good morning everyone. I’m happy to see that after fixing this site yesterday my post is going in the correct place. I can certainly celebrate national sons’ day since I have a wonderful son and 5 equally wonderful grandsons. I like to think I am a good neighbor and know I have very good neighbors here. Today it’s back to the dentist to clean out some puss that’s under a crown that’s over an implant. Sam is very eager to come home and I am eager to have him here. Tomorrow is family training day at the rehab where they will show us anything they think we need to know. I’m bringing some insurance forms with me so they can be filled out while he’s there and maybe I can avoid some of the hassle with the companies this time around. Stay safe everyone, Carol
