  1. Parking at the port is very close to the terminal, you can see your car from the lido deck! But it is all outdoors, so you may have to dig out upon returning. We cruised from Baltimore once in January and luckily were fine but the cruise right after us returned following a major snowstorm and had to deal with snowy cars.
  2. This is great, though the pdf menus will not open for me. I thought I remembered the Chocolate Buffet on a 5 day cruise, unless that is a recent change?
  3. We are cruising next month but are looking at another cruise to book. If we book this additional cruise using Early Saver, when we get back from the first cruise, and they have the special recently cruised rate in the first 2 weeks, if that is better, can we match to it? I am wondering if we should wait to book, unless we can match to it anyway since I believe the recently cruised rate is some form of Early Saver also?
  4. Hey, we are on the same cruise as you. The roll call has been very quiet. But the same thing happened to us. Jet Blue changed us from 12:45 to 11:15. Also have platinum early disembarkation but did not want to take any chances and have that nagging feeling in the back of our minds during the cruise, what if there is a delay. Since the airline made the change we were able to switch to a later flight at no charge, even though that flight was much more expensive had we purchased it ourselves. They even let us fly into a different airport, Newark versus JFK, since they consider them co-located cities. Now we can be one of the last ones off and not rush, sit on the Lido and have one last snack and look around.
  5. He was also our cruise director on the Pride, in 2018. He had previously worked on RCL. I chatted with him a bit comparing the cruise lines. Found him to be personable and friendly. Would rate him as average, not necessarily someone who stands out as a top director, nor someone to be avoided, but a good, competent cruise director.
  6. Dont get me wrong, we do too and are Platinum and have sailed Carnival exclusively for about 15 years. My list of things we love would be much longer. Just an observation that the watermelon is not that good and curious if there are other foods people feel are better on land.
  7. Has been great this summer. Buy a whole one from the supermarket and cut it open, just delicious. Got me thinking, cant get good watermelon on a cruise. Even when on ice by Blue Iguana, it is just not that good. Got me thinking, what else have you found to be just not as tasty on a cruise? I am not looking for things they dont have at all. I guess another thing is the movie popcorn, but that has been discussed in other threads.
  8. This is how I feel also. Either book ES or don’t worry about prices after final payment. Precovid prices normally increased as sailing approached anyway, and they never came back and asked us for more money!
  9. Are the chips different if you buy them by charging your account versus buying them with cash? Meaning like fun play you have to bet them all and can only cash out different chips you get back from your winnings?
  10. Can the credit be used in the casino, not for the cash out trick, but to actually play, like fun play? Charge actual play to the 300/600 OBC and keep any winnings?
  11. See you are leaving the same day as us, so it could have been a possibility but you are on MG and we are Horizon. Not to hijack, but our last cruise pre-covid was the Fantasy out of Mobile. From you signature, doesn't look as if you have ever sailed out of your own backyard? We found that port and terminal to be very easy.
  12. Yep same here Halloween on the Horizon. Will start to seem really close next week when we hit August, so there will only be September separating us from October and cruising!
  13. I had multiple cruises canceled and paid with gift cards. Like you I wanted the FCC but some how Carnival refunded anyway. Here is where it gets interesting. One cruise was refunded to a digital gift card. I almost didn’t open the email because I was not expecting anything and it looked like spam. You might want to check for that. Another cruise they sent physical gift cards. I think they came UPS but no signature was required
  14. I got this message too yesterday, kind of scary it still is a problem. I have some time so I am waiting a bit before trying again
  15. We were on the Carnival Glory in the hot tub on the Lido deck. It started to rain but hey we were already wet anyway. It began to absolutely pour and it was a bit chilly but the hot tub water kept us from getting cold. A few brave souls ran by to get to the other side of the deck and looked at us like we were absolutely crazy. Finally I heard thunder and said to my daughter we need to get out right now. Thinking back to those moments still makes me smile
  16. Same here though almost all benefits are for platinum. Diamond would be nice, though the only real extra benefit is the captain's get together. That is how we feel, like coming back to your hometown after being away awhile--knowing where everything is and how it operates. We were on a cruise at a large table with others and they started to wait to see what we were ordering. We would look at the menu and say to ourselves I remember this was excellent, and this not as good, and they would sometimes choose the same things based on our comments.
  17. Have been on a couple other lines, but are taking our 15 straight Carnival cruise. Got me to thinking, what would make us switch. Not too much, but this is what I came up with: - A really great deal--though Carnival is very competitive and usually priced the best anyway, and there would need to be a significant difference for us to switch - Some sort of unique itinerary, though we cruise more for the ship than the ports so not sure what that would be - If an organization or group we were connected with had a group cruise on another line we could consider it Obviously it is wonderful we are so happy with Carnival that we do not look at other lines, and please no flaming, but what would make other loyal folks stray?
  18. Where do I begin? I miss: Taking the last step from the gangway to the deck and hearing and seeing the Welcome Back The excitement of going to our room and seeing it so clean, which will not happen again despite the best efforts of the steward, plus seeing the boring announcements on the TV and the luggage protector on the bed (yes we have arrived) First meal on the lido and fun on the slides and pools Meeting our servers--we are not YTD people CHOCOLATE MELTING CAKE CHOCOLATE MELTING CAKE (sorry but it merits 2 call outs) Mornings out on deck as the sun is rising and the ship is so quiet All the nightly entertainment (shows, live music, comedy, Dive in movies and dare I mention the casino) Watching as we approach ports Just looking out on the ocean Seaday brunch where we can eat so leisurely and know we have nowhere to be and the whole day to lounge around Returning to ship, no matter how nice a day on land, nothing beats coming back aboard, with maybe a quick stop on lido for a snack or a jump in the pool to cool off Maybe the best part is feeling so carefree, probably what it felt like when we were young kids I can honestly say I dont think a day goes by where I do not daydream about a past cruise memory
  19. Have been on 12 different Carnival ships (just checked my signature :) including Sunshine twice. 2 things really loved about Sunshine are the waterfall in Serenity area (check out some videos of it). Multi deck waterfall flowing into a wading pool that you can swim in and under along with a really large multi deck Serenity area. Also the atrium is great and lends itself to great parties at night when they are having the themes (motown or 80s) or on the way to rock the promenade. Plus it is a great area to sit in and enjoy the music and watch everyone heading off to dinner or the photographers on formal nights. If I see a nice itinerary on Sunshine or Sunrise, these ships are actually pluses to us, as in look at this itinerary and it is on the Sunshine! The only time I was ever a bit worried about a ship was the Sunshine. We read many negative reviews here but I figured how bad can a cruise be and booked it anyway. We truly loved it and I will never be able to figure out how people can look at the same thing so differently.
  20. Have sailed both Sunrise and Sunshine. Highly enjoyed both and was scheduled to sail Sunrise again twice last summer. Not a fan of the layout of the main show lounge but that is hardly a drawback. I was also concerned with the mixed reviews but found most of them to be unfounded.
  21. Leaving Miami May 3 to Cozumel/Grand Cayman/Ocho Rios? I have a spreadsheet that tracks all this. Bob Hamill was the cruise director and he did a show with a dummy. I remember pulling up at the dock thinking that ship is huge!
  22. We actually have cruised with babies, both daughters were under a year old when they first cruised. Actually the only family vacations we have ever taken are cruises and they are both platinum now. Though the first cruise was before they were born back in 1992 on the Holiday. I was a bit reluctant to go, what if I felt bored and trapped on the ship, but I was a good sport and went along with DW’s suggestion. Boy did I love it. I remember thinking this is how the rich live. Never had a bad cruise. They ranged from very good to amazing. We have been Carnival exclusive the past 15 years. We enjoy it and Carnival is smart—giving us Platinum perks is enough to keep us from straying. I wish I were on a cruise right now...
  23. Until recently, I could select the parameters and then switch to calendar view and see each day of the month and the lowest price for that day. it was in the top right and there were small icons I could toggle to change the view. Was very convenient. Is this gone for everyone else too, or is it a setting I am somehow missing?
  24. This was so great and my best cruise moment since this whole pandemic began. It really brought back the memories of cruising--you write so vividly! Funny to read reviews that are over 10 years old. Destiny was totally redone since then (we have been on the updated Sunshine twice) and Imagination was scrapped. Your kids must be all grown up as well. I will check out your other reviews as well. So hoping we can get back to cruising in 2021. Our cruises from 2020 were all cancelled and it is getting to feel like a long time away. Thank you for providing some fine cruise thoughts during this otherwise long, frustrating 2021 pandemic winter.
  25. Bermuda because of Horseshoe Bay. It rivaled anything else I have seen, even Hawaii. Also very clean and safe there.
