  1. Any booking with a travel agent requires you to work through that agency, not directly with the cruise line. Of course you can upgrade your cabin, all it takes is a phone call. The only thing you lose is the Royal Up ability. Other than that it is just like any other travel agency. Each person must make up their own mind what is most important to them.
  2. We book with the big box TA. I book the cabin I want and get a substantial cash card or check after the cruise. Would I like to be able to bid for an upgrade? Of course, but for me “a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush”. For the slim chance I could get a bid accepted at a reasonable cost, I will take the guaranteed cash. JMHO.
  3. I once had a woman in the ladies room tell me to press evenly on both sides of the oblong button. It seems to work for me, but that could be a coincidence. I wonder if pushing in the center doesn’t “connect “ correctly sometimes.
  4. I hope you, Laura and adorable Bella stay safe, this one looks like you are directly in its path. Good luck and our prayers for all of the area.
  5. On our British Isles cruise last year we brought back numerous sealed foodstuffs. Cheese and strop waffles from the Netherlands , biscuits and candy from Wales and a few other things. I was so tired when we got to Atlanta I forgot to declare them. Luckily, nobody asked. I didn’t remember until I unpacked the next day. I won’t make that mistake again.
  6. Well behaved children are always welcome. But, if I am paying an extra $80 or more for a special dinner with my husband, I would be a very unhappy camper if a child at the next table was screaming and pitching a fit. Of course, if an obnoxious drunk was at the next table I would also be unhappy. I think it all boils down to consideration of others. There were times I hauled my son out of a public place so that everyone didn’t have to listen to his meltdown.
  7. I know the OP asked about free lunches, but are any of the upcharge restaurants open on boarding day? We got a good deal on the unlimited dining package and would love a nice lunch to start things off.
  8. Although I hate my cruise ending, when I leave the ship I am anxious to get started on the trip home. Once in Lauderdale we used a park and shuttle. We were early off the ship and went to the area to wait for the shuttle. After 20 minutes no shuttle. Called and they acted like we were too early. Another 10 minutes and one came. Problem was there were now about 50 people waiting. Complete madhouse. Not a pleasant way to end a cruise. It’s worth it to me to pay extra to have my car waiting for me. My suitcase has rollers and I am more than able to walk the 200 feet or so. It’s not as far as parking at the airport and dragging the luggage.
  9. I would also suggest a battery powered clock. The electricity causes plug in clocks to gain/lose time. Or at least they did years ago.
  10. We leave on our first Celebrity cruise that day from Ft. Lauderdale. When I looked at the Embassy Suites it was $1,240 a night!!! At that point I realized it was Super Bowl weekend. We got the Hyatt for $280. Luckily, we are retired and can take our time driving down. I never thought about checking for Super Bowl, but I will from now on.
  11. I just booked excursions for a January 31 cruise. The site was slow, but usable.
  12. Another vote for Twisted Fish. We ate there earlier this month and it was the best fish I have ever eaten.
  13. We have an aft cabin booked on Liberty next spring, on deck 6. Recently we had an aft on a Princess ship and the vibration was awful! We don’t usually book aft cabins, so I was wondering if this is normal? The shaking was really bad during docking and leaving port. It shook things off the shelves! I know some vibration is normal, but this was excessive. Any experience, especially on Freedom class? Thanks!
  14. I don’t know if things have changed, but years ago an electric plug in clock would gain or lose time as the current fluctuated. I have a small battery clock I usually keep in our guest room that I take on vacation.
  15. I can’t take much sun due to health issues, were there plenty of shaded loungers available? I would love to be able to relax in the shade and watch the waves, but anywhere works.
  16. I seem to remember posters saying in the past that the safe was searched for passports and they were left with the port agent when people missed the ship. Thankfully, this hasn’t happened to me, it’s my worst nightmare.
  17. Oasis in January had pods the correct size. Coffee was good, not great, but good enough to wake me up.
  18. I also use the klymit pad. Very easy to pack and use. I like a soft mattress and this really helps.
  19. We are sailing out of Port Everglades next year on 1/31 and needed a hotel for the night before. The Embassy Suites shows up on the Hilton site as costing $1240 a night!!! Turns out the Super Bowl is in Miami that weekend. You may want to book soon. I ended up with the Hyatt at about $300.
  20. On Oasis last month the chairs by the bar had ashtray things.
  21. While we love the quiet of deck 17, there can be motion. One night it was rocking and our closet door would bang open and then bang shut. We finally put a stool jammed against it to keep it closed. I also got tired of climbing the stairs. It seemed every time I wanted something it was on the other level. For us a GS is just the right amount of space. We pick one close to the elevators and can easily get to 17.
  22. I would pick Giovanni’s. We had a free dinner there and one at Johnny Rockets from our big box travel agent. I printed the email with the information not knowing how it would work. It was a good thing I did since they both wanted to see the coupon. I explained that we didn’t have any coupons and showed them the email. That was enough for them. So, make sure you have what ever documentation with you.
  23. But be careful. I once ordered grits with my eggs and they came in a bowl sprinkled with cinnamon!!
  24. We ate there Monday on Oasis. Food was good but not great. Panna cotta was the highlight of the meal. Service was not very good. He asked for our order, didn’t explain much of anything. Still have the salt options. We had 3 meal package and decided to give it a try. I certainly wouldn’t pay full price for it.
