  1. We also did Vancouver to Seward on the Millie, not sure if same as OP. Lunch in buffet was horrible and I am not a foodie at all. The Asian food was every day the same thing and I can not eat it, it doesn't like me, whatever is in it literally makes me sick. We ate breakfast there every morning bacon and eggs so that was fine. Dinner we ate in MDR and we had a great waiter and the food was fine, not 5 star but good choices and if you didn't like something our wonderful waiter got us something else.

But Oceanview for lunch was really bad and we were on a 16 day on Infinity in the fall and Summit last spring for 8 days and did not have the same stuff every day.

When we got to Anchorage and were chatting with the visitor center people and asked what ship we came from and said Millie, they asked how was the buffet at lunch, we said terrible and I guess everyone on that ship said the same thing.

We do the buffet at lunch as we never know what time we will be ready to do lunch and usually the MDR was already closed so we had no choice. We do NOT do speciality venues, our choice. This was just a 7 day cruise, I will have to read more comments about longer cruises, I am hoping it is just the Millie.

  2. Thanks for the reply biojeep, we just need to get to Anchorage and we are staying for 10 days and will rent a car from the city location it is a LOT cheaper that way but not open on weekends

  3. We are looking to get from Seward to Anchorage after we get off the ship. From the Alaska websites we found the Act Big Bus to get us to the Hilton in Anchorage which is real close to where we need to go. Has anyone used this service? Reliable? Safe?

  4. I also just sent my renewal, mine expires next July but we are going to Alaska at the end of May out of Vancouver and coming back again through Canada. For me it is not worth the worry about getting it in time or not I will need it renewed anyway now works for me.

I will be glad to have it in 2 weeks but if it takes 5 that is OK too then I need to find out how to update my KTN, but again I will have time to call and find out.

  5. We just returned from the Infinity Panama Canal cruise a few weeks ago. We had a day stop in Cartagena and we took ships tour that was a boat trip to walled city walking tour. It was great if you can do the walking. The boat ride was just a way to get there instead of bus or cab and we got a talk about their history on the ride over. It was only a couple of hours long but enough for us and the area inside the fence at the port is a pleasure to be in. It was VERY humid while we were there and that was mid Oct.

We were there a few years ago and I did not feel safe then but this time with the ships tour I enjoyed it more but the street vendors are persistent, just shake your head no and keep on walking.

  6. Thanks so much you two for the quick response. It looks like we are all set if there is a Krispy Creme and a liquor store close by, LOL. I am one of those people that even though it is still far off I like to know my options ahead of time and shame on us for not knowing about the air show. But this is the cruise DH wanted and all I care is that I am on a cruise. Thanks again

  7. Another question for locals.

We also just booked the 10/7 PC cruise and after reading on the roll call went ahead and booked the Hampton Inn Daly City as it was in our price range. Just looked now and it has already gone up in price. So my question is how to get from hotel to cruise port? Taxi? It says there is a metro nearby is that doable with 16 day cruise luggage? What are our alternatives?

We have stayed in SF other times so sight seeing isn't a big thing. Any help would be appreciated.

  8. 123east, yes that is the cruise and we were planning to park in Salem. We have looked at a one way car rental from Newark airport Nashua an so far that is the cheapest we can find. That would be the X shuttle to the airport as it sounds like cab fare would be more but need to find out what X charges as that would be times2.

Thanks for the info anything else keep the info flowing.

  9. We were also on this cruise and I will verify all the GOOD things that have been said. I was worried about the bar service as there was so many drinks I wanted to try. The only problem I had was after trying a "few" deciding which I liked best. The longest waits I felt were in the the Stardust, and I just got a drink before we went in. The comic was the BEST, he was really good, but will be going off the ship soon, before the holidays.

I am sure the Spinnaker is open till 2AM our room was under it, but even that the noise was not to bad.

Service is all the dining rooms was great.

The only "issue" we had was the hostess in Versailles, we made reservations and she put is off the side, I called it timeout and ignored us. DH went to maitre'd told him the story and sat us as soon as table opened up, service was great once seated. Funny thing is we had the same problem on the Dawn 3 years ago in the Venetian with the hostess.

Divers were in the water on 11/8 and 11/15 don't know doing what but we were on time at all the ports and getting back.

We are not fans of "free style" but we worked around it and had a wonderful time. As already said it is what you make of it. If you want to complain about trivial things then go ahead and waste your vacation time. If you have a real problem NCL really tries to work with you, IF they know about it.

We would sail NCL again if the itinerary was what we were looking for. I don't think we would book the bigger ships as the scheduling seems even worse on those, but size of the Star seems just right for us.

Our biggest surprise was the age of the guests. From families with 1 yr olds to many scooters and wheel chairs/walkers. It really was very diverse.

  10. This is one of those post that after reading tears form in your eyes. I had been reading hoping for a good outcome and now YEAH it is all worked out.

We just ran the local Relay for Life here and I couldn't be happier you are cancer free and things have worked themselves out.

    Have a wonderful cruise!

  11. lWe look ahead to see where in the Caribbean we have NOT been and Bonaire is one of the places. We don't usually book more than a year in advance and in this case glad of it. We have been to Cauracoa and it is nice but I wouldn't want to be there overnight nor in Cozemel.

We are booked on a 10 day in Oct on the Infinity just to get away and we have been to all the ports many times.

Our TA posted a "deal" for NCL in Nov and it goes to Bonaire so we booked that, we are not big fans of NCL but we really want to see these ports.

Maybe if more people did our cruise lines to see the ports, THEY BOUGHT into, maybe someone would get the hint.

As someone stated I am sure it is a finacial decision, maybe a break on port charges for X?

I want Bonaire back on X

  12. Looking forward to our cruise on the Star in Nov and we have the beverage package, so ALL these are included in the package?????????????

I can't wait to try that Rebellious Fish, sounds wonderful.

    Have tried and liked:

    Pain Killer

    Bahama Mama

    Yellow Bird

and others but if these are all included I may not remember much of our cruise,

We are not normally big drinkers but this is the time to try new things!

  13. The Summit and her sisters are a good size if they have walking issues, Infinity also does some carribean.

How long a cruise were you looking at and is there a port you would rather go out of like, Tampa for western carib, Ft Lauderdale for eastern, and PR for southern. 7days? 10? 11? 14?

We are in our 60s and enjoy Celebrity, the longer the cruise the less kids if that bothers you and a lot of quiet places to relax.

    Linda

We just booked a 10 day 10/5/15 on the Infinity out of Ft. Lauderdale

This cruise docks in all the ports no tenders which could be an issue for them.

  14. We have cruised on both lines, we prefer X as we get more perks as we have cruised more but we like the itineries on Hal better. But we are not smokers and that is important to us. When on Hal we do not get a balcony and spend a lot less in casino for those reasons. But we would not hesitate to go on HAL if we want to see something we haven't seen.

We are not foodies so we would not be a good judge on that, we have NEVER gone hungry on ANY cruise line.

If age is a factor then HAL is older but our concern is that the nighttime venues close up by 9 on HAL or are dead. On X the crowd is slightly younger, we are in our 60s, but the guests seem younger in their actions and interests.

We have been on Westerdam and Zuiderdam both sisters to OO but we have only been on Equinox in that class ship, but our favorite.

So I guess what I am saying is that it is what matters to YOU that you should base your decision on. You will enjoy either.

  15. Thanks to OP for starting this as we are looking at the Dawn for a May cruise out of Boston.

We have never been on NCL nor tried free style dining. We have been on many Celebrity, Royal, Holland, Princess and Carnival all using traditional dining. We want to try NCL and this looks like a good cruise for us to try.

We are non-smokers so I guess we well look at an oceanview. We prefer balcony but I can not go out there if a neighbor is smoking so it will really be a waste to get one.

A few questions: Are lounge chairs on open decks a problem to get? Prefer shade but more an issue of getting one with only a porthole.

Any time dining; do you have to make a reservation every night, just show up what is the "real" deal on how it works.

I am sure the staff is fantastic, but as a cruiser on other lines what should I expect, we tend to be loyal to X as we have had more on that line and we will miss our perks but we want to leave from closer to home and this is our only option.

We love cruising and all cruises on all lines are great, we aren't picky, but want to know what to expect/ask for. I will miss most our free booze but maybe we can work up to it on NCL too.

    Any thoughts?

    Linda
