  1. I didn't do it, but I spoke to a couple on our ship who did. It is a downhill trip on a two-lane highway - the same highway that the tour buses and all the other tourist traffic use. They found the ride stressful and not much chance to enjoy the scenery. They said that if they had understood the nature of the trip they wouldn't have taken it.

    There are some photos here:

You can see that this isn't a road with bike lanes and not much if any paved shoulder

    Thank you!

Definitely finding something else to do!

  2. I have a Mini Suite booked on the Regal in December. Could you please tell me what the difference is between a Club Class Mini and a regular Mini. I'm sorry, kinda new to cruising, Thank you.

    Hi Jersey-

The difference between a club class mini and regular mini are placement on the ship - club class are mid ship closest to the elevators and having a special area in the dining room that is not supposed to have a wait time. There is an additional cost for the club class minis.

Here is a blurb from the Princess website:

A premium stateroom category featuring our best Mini-Suite staterooms, as well as the great amenities found in all Mini-Suites — plus premier dining benefits and luxurious perks. Each night, enjoy Club Class Dining, an exclusive dining area featuring expedited seating with no wait, expanded menu options, dedicated wait staff and tableside preparations. Other amenities include priority embarkation and disembarkation, a complimentary one-time wine set-up and so much more!^

  3. This is an old post- not trying to hijack it, but to ask an additional question!

    BudgetQueen,

I am trying to find out how to get a shuttle one way, from Mendenhall back to the cruise dock. We will be dropped off at Mendenhall after our whale watch, so we will just need a way to get back to the cruise dock. Can you point me in a direction to find out how to do this?

    thanks!

    -Jerie

PS- I remember getting some fantastic info from you 10 years ago on our last Alaskan cruise- so glad to see your name again!

  4. We booked through Avis when we drove to Emerald Lake. Reservations definitely needed, unless there are very few ships in port the day you are there. We needed a mini-van, so I got there just before the office opened to make sure we got one! Was an easy, beautiful drive! I had downloaded a Murray's Guide - was a lot of great info.

    Enjoy your trip!

  5. Does anyone know of a cruiseline that does a northbound (or southbound) trip from San Francisco to Whittier or Seward? We would love to do a land portion at the end (or beginning) of a cruise- and would equally love to cruise out of SF- avoiding a flight one way!

    thanks for any info!

    -Jerie

  6. Thanks Putterdude!

You have put my mind at ease!

I read about Rossies somewhere else- that might be a very good choice. Is there a good steak house in the area?

Our kids are teens- 14 & 19- but still- we like to be careful.

Panhandlers are a fact of life- visiting San Francisco from time to time has taught us to smile and say no.

    thank you!!!!

  7. Hello-

We currently have a room reserved at the Downtown Hampton Inn (Robson at Beatty). We booked this hotel because we were able to get 2 queen beds (there are 4 of us) and a continental breakfast and will only be in Vancouver for 16 hours or so.

From what I have read on this thread- and on the Hampton website- there is a free shuttle to the Ballentyne Pier (I'm going to contact the Inn to verify!)

    My questions about this location:

-will we have much to pick from as far as dinner the night we arrive?

-would you walk around near the hotel at night with your family?

thanks for any info you can offer!
