There are also more jet journeys too whether they be around-the-world or regional.  My DH and I have never been frequent cruisers, preferring to do our own land-based exploring but we do love the jet trips.  We have our third around-the-world booked next year. At this stage we enjoy the prospect of just showing up for the trip and having every detail executed flawlessly.  Cruises are great in that respect as well but to a lesser degree.  We’re becoming more appreciative of the positives of group travel as we get older but are very selective.  SS has been our go-to for our few ocean cruises but I’m concerned about the direction of the line.  We’ll see next month how the Monaco F1 sailing goes and will decide if we keep our booking for Japan after that.

interesting post we were on the Muse Christmas/nyears it was a disaster we will be on the spirit

also and evaluate SS for future trips we did last Christmas on the regent ship grandeur and it was an out of mind event the service and food we like days gone bye bye

Same here.  Onboard in May for the Monaco F1 sailing.  At least it’s very port intensive and we’ll be busy.  Bought the apartment terrace 2-day race package and I’m hoping SS can execute.

We board in Venice off in Barcelona

I can't say for Muse; however, I was on the Dawn just a couple weeks ago and the menus were also very limited.  It was disappointing.

Hard to believe of all cruise ships sailing SS would be the only ones with out Soup, Salad or a Pasta dish in their main dining room dinner menu I think the Silver in Silver Sea is starting to tarnish

On the Spirit in May have concerns!

You are of course correct - Fusina & Maghera are part of the same Industrial Port area away from Touristic Venice. As I understand it, the present system for Silversea is that they use the old Cruise Terminal in Venice to complete the basic Check In Procedures and then Bus Guests to Fusina for Boarding. If one stays at San Clemente it will involve a Water Transfer to The Cruise Terminal, followed by a Bus transfer to the Ship.

If Arrangements have changed for 2024 please forgive me.

    Appreciate your comments

  5. SS simply hotel when we booked was Monaco Grand Canal  checked my account the other day new hotel San Clemente

Hotel is on a private so now we take a shuttle from an island to visit a island ( VENICE)

NEVER NOTIFIED we are now in penalty phase if we CX hotel

My bad it is posted in Passages but NOT enforced as is the closing of the back door of the smoking room on deck 11 the stench from cigars is awful I t   reported this to them  3 different times !

I received Mike's email just yesterday.  Let's give them a few days.  I'm curious whether the policy will be in place by the time we board on the 26th of this month.

Response to my email to Mike Moore regarding pool lounges...

As previously mentioned in the thread, I wrote to Mike Moore regarding what I was told was a new Regent fleet-wide policy regarding the saving of pool lounges.  The relevant portion of my email follows:

We boarded Splendor on January 21, 2023 and not long after were confronted with fellow cruisers leaving a few personal items on pool lounges early in the morning and expecting those lounges to sit unused until they return…sometimes hours later.

This issue was solved on Splendor with the assistance of Stephane Carriou, Food & Beverage Director.  He was instrumental in creating a fleet-wide policy to address the issue which included a 30-minute time limit on vacant lounges, signage near the pool bar, and a table near the bar for personal items removed from lounges by deck crew after 30 minutes.  Announcements were also made in Passages.  After all were aware of the policy the issue diminished drastically.

Mike Moore's response was that the policy is as I described and all ships will be asked to reference the policy in Passages and signage on the pool deck.

I guess the Granduer did not get the letter

  8. If the on board officers and or corporate management  wanted the problem resolved it would be done

they know what needs to be done and not doing it  and looks like nothing will be until a incident

    causes change

We are arriving in Barcelona on the morning of June 22 and doing a Regent pre-cruise tour with one night in Barcelona and two nights at the converted castle in Cardona (after seeing the Abbey at Monserrat). In Barcelona we will be staying at the Hotel NH Collection Barcelona Gran Hotel Calderón.  Just a short walk to Las Ramblas and the gothic quarter.

Regent may be using that hotel to accommodate the pre-cruise tour group.

Are you staying at the Castle the website tour info says  Parador de Cardona or similar hotel

sounds exicting would be interested on our next Barcelona trip plz post your tour

We have had a good number of meals in our suite. Breakfast everyday which the butler brings in and sets up on the dining room table while we sleep in the next room. Truly lovely. We have an illy espresso maker in the bar area if we need more coffee. Breakfast is very good.

We have had several dinners en suite as well. The food in general, is definitely not as good as it once was. We were considering a world cruise, but we cannot imagine being on a small ship with only a few restaurants and food that really isn't up to snuff. I would eat chicken every day if it was prepared well. My husband would likewise eat salmon every day if it was prepared well.

The grill was just awful the other evening. I asked that my food be prepared by the chef, the waitstaff person said she had to ask her boss if they could do that. When my request was honored, the food came out ice cold with grill marks on it  and accompanied by a rock hard potato. When approached by the maitre d, to inquire why I wasn’t eating it, he actually touched my potato with his bare hands and said, yes that is really hard. What!!!! Of course there was the offer to redo it. NO way.

I know food is subjective, but this isn't 5 star dining. Duck Ragu, the signature disk in La T, used to be amazing, not the same.

Similar to what Lucille and I endured on the Muse from Sydney at Christmas  things are not the same

and do not the will come back to the  standard we were used to

  11. While on board the Muse for Christmas  the Muse  menus    did not reflect any trace of Italian  heritage

in fact Christmas eve which is a BIG seafood  dinner   in Italy was not offered in any dining venue

not one italian style offering  but system wide fixed menus

in fact all aspects of the cruise were not up to SS reputation

  12. Boarding and check in is complete shambles

Southampton check starts at noon did not board till after 3 pm that was last May on the Moon

December in Sydney the same  only 3 SS reps at counter  and three intercruise reps to check passports

    and other paperwork

My suggestion eat a hardy breakfast

We have traveled on Regent for 72 nights, this cruise will be our last.

    The Good: food and drinks.

The Bad: the service at Sette Mari. Got a table on night five, place was packed. After over an hour waiting for our main dished, waiter let us know the food was on the way. The lamb chops were very over done. At that point we were not waiting any longer. The next day the maitre d asked us to return that night, said we should not have to wait and he would take care of us. Went to check in and there was a long line to get a table. I went to the head of the line told them about our invite and was told to get in the long line and wait some more. I became upset, talked to the food and beverage manager. He lead us up to Sette Mari and set us down at a table. At that point I lost my appetite and we left. The food and beverage manager did not even take the time to understand the issue and there was no follow-up. The staff seemed overwhelmed whenever there was a crowd. Seems the ship is a training ground for staff and cannot handle a nearly fully booked ship.

The Ugly: We had a room on the 8th floor, a good size room and bathroom with furnishing from the 90s, the biggest turn off was the dirty carpet. In addition, when the ship was moving there was a heavy vibration.

For afew years now I have been telling Regent to avoid a lot of problems like you had and many others had on other ships go to a reservation system but for some reason they are against it

On Silver Sea there restaurant La Terrazza is basically similar to Sete Mare  has reservations  and eliminates lines and confusion

  14. We boarded the Moon in LHR check in was a nightmare took us forever there about 150 passengers

sitting with us hardly NO snacks or coffee suplied

When we boarded no SS rep to help with hand luggage   or a welcome glass of champange  we to our room vand the hallway looked like an airport luggage claim

The HD said how are things going I said you get one chance for a first impression and it is gone

Hi Jennifer and Georges; thanks for you review.  We also prefer La Terraza for dinner over The Veranda on Regent.  And since Silversea's theme of luxury service includes no self service coffee machines (ala Regent), at 5am, have a standing order of two cappucchino's delivered by room service.  (just prior to 5am, I open the door lock, so they quietly come in and do the coffee set tup)

Since, most of our cruises now are Silversea expedition voyages, xcept for Auckland to Singapore on the Muse in January/February, we prefer room service for breakfast.  Allows for a relaxed breakfast with zodiac cruising coming up shortly.  Also, did room service exclusivly on the Dawn maiden voyage in April, and again\ loved the relaxed pace at breakfast (prior to excursions from a port intensive itinerary) and tasty, warm room service cuisine.

btw, just applied your Silversea referral to the Muse Auckland/Singapore voyage.

Currently aboard the MOON and the food and service is the best it has ever been and WES we had the duck ragu last night and thought of you
