We have used the rewards to pay down charges to the CC for several years. You get a better exchange rate when credit is applied to Carnival charges like sail & sign or booking fees. Just last month I applied 20,000 points for $300 of my bill when applied toward my final payment of a CCL cruise.
Note: we also use the card for almost all household charges and utilities and pay the car off in full each month to avoid interest charges.

I realize this post is about 2 months old, but I didn't know if you were able to get the Carnival Platinum pin with no ships name yet or not. I was just on Ebay and noticed there is a Carnival Platinum pin (with no ship name, generic) from Carnival Magic listed on Ebay for $12.99, with the auction ending tomorrow (12/8/2011). On the Carnival Conquest last week they had a few changes on the Blackjack tournament. First was that all players started out with $1,500 in play money instead of the past $1,000. This did not seem to raise the qualifying levels as many players still busted out. The tournament was played on a BJ table with the Match Pair side bet which was in play during the tournament. I saw a few players hit the 5x on the Match Pair. Mostly it was a long shot try if you got too far behind. Lastly what I liked was the elimination of the wild card player in the final table. I have seen the wild card player win before and I think all seats at the final table should be earned.

On a cruise last year someone won a BMW and elected to take the car. I doubt they have a BMW stached out down in the cargo hold. Same with the mega jackpots, I would expect payment would be in some sort of check. Even in most land based casino's winnings over a certain abount are paid in cash.

Not sure if John worked on the ship but chances are that he had at one time or another.
The site is visited by thousands of cruisers of all ages. Also John has many contacts through out Carnival that may have photos.
Leave a message on his blog with a please reply and watch for an answer. It may take a week as he just returned to a ship this week.

I didn't see this one - I hadn't yet been on a cruise - but my mom told me about it.
Mom and Dad were on their first cruise, on the Carnival Victory. As Mom was unpacking, Dad went into the bathroom. Mom heard him flush, and then a scream followed by a string of swear words. Dad apparently didn't realize that you shouldn't sit down when you flush the toilet on a cruise ship - there's so much suction that you run the risk of getting stuck!
On the Carnival Fantasy the flush button is behind the toilet lid as my DW found out when she leaned back while seated. It is a mistake she will not make again soon.

We were on the Elation in November of 2004 with a group of 30 crossdresser couples. Gotta' be the same group already mentioned. All were men during the day except the two who wore bikinis and posed for photos by the pool!
They became the passtime of the ship and a buzz would circulate around the pool/casino/whereever whenever a "sighting" occurred.
Of course the formal night photo on the staircase was the ultimate. The photo shop guy told me they had sold 70 copies of the group shot and he just didn't understand why folks not in this picture would want a copy. I took the photo and said to him "have you looked at this photo? - I mean REALLY looked at it?" I left him staring at the photo with the strangest look on his face.
Each evening they led the line dancing at the midnight deck party and everyone about died when out of the group 2 women (real ones) were introduced as the wardrobe consultants for that nights wear (about half the group were wearing oriental frocks) - these women were further introduced as the wives of two of the guys. On that note we all needed another drink!
I'll never forget that cruise. it was a blast.

I think we were on this cruise but my cruise history shown Nov 2003. Maybe the cruise together every year. I remember passing the photo stops on the formal night and saying that is one ugly group of women. Then My wife says I don't think they are women.
We were on the Liberty last month and there was a small group of deaf people. At all the public shows and talks they they would sit on the first couple of rows on the side of the lounge. The had a signer who would translate everything to them. When the comic came on he got a kick out of watching her tell his jokes to the deaf people and made the comment that they should return for the adult midnight show. Of course they did return and we were all just rolling on the floor watching her try and tell the dirty jokes. Even the comic would have to stop and turn to watch here deliver the punch line. It was one of those shows you wanted to see again pon video.
