  1. We have only done one River Cruise and were on a Budapest to Amsterdam cruise with Scenic. We have done many ocean cruises and several all inclusive resorts but, nothing has been as all inclusive as the Scenic cruise. When they say you never need your wallet or pay any extra, they really mean it. The only money we needed was for souvenirs. Even the mini bar in the cabin is free. Oh and, laundry is free too. All excursions (and several offered every day and some evenings) included all meals and drinks. All excursions were guided by local knowledgeable guides. Evening entertainment was also free. Yes, the upfront was a bit higher but when you consider there are no additional costs, it is actually cheaper. I highly recommend Scenic
  2. We were on both ships as well as on Jasper during a trip from Budapest to Amsterdam as a result of low water levels. The size of the balcony and Jr Balcony suit cabins are the same. The only real difference is the location. I would not suggest the cabins in the back of the boat , you do hear and feel the engines. We were up front (204) and our friends were in the back of the ship, on Sapphire deck, they were not pleased with the noises. All passengers have the opportunity to have at least one dinner at the "Table le Rive" at the front of the boat.
  3. But for fuel, then need to dock...and can resupply then.
  4. Where did you get that information? How do the do ship to ship transfer of goods at sea? It is not a naval operation with the equipment and training to do that.
  5. Was at a meet a meet and greet with the Roll Call Cruise Critic crowd on the aft upper deck of the Solstice and enjoying the company of all the folks. The typical where are you from and your first cruise types of conversations. We met a couple from Vancouver (my home town but haven't lived there for decades due to being in the Air Force). We started to talk and it turned out I went to the same school as this persons Wife. Not only that, we were in the same graduating class. I did not remember her but she recognized my name. I was a jock and she was not... we hung with different crowds. We did meet after that for drinks ad on excursions. We still communicate. 30+ years later in a port in Italy, I run into a school mate...It is a small world after all 🙂
  6. What government rules? That is new to me and I have been reading a lot of travel news since this all began. One of the unintended concerns I have about future cruising is imposed restrictions (I understand why) to the cruise experience. Rigid rules for meals, entertainment, bars and lounges and maybe even on deck around pools etc. (sure will be hard to get a lounge chair now LOL). I just have memories of past cruises and am having a difficult time visualizing the "new" way. Will they have to reduce the passengers to half capacity?
  7. I think this needs to be put in perspective. Apparently there are 57 cruise ships plying the waters around the US. There are approx 12,000 crew onboard them (apparently only 200 are American). With those numbers, that puts about 210 crew average on each ship. That includes officers, engineering crew, cabin and kitchen crews, enough to keep the ship operating. I suspect that the majority of the crews are there voluntarily. At least they have an income as opposed to sitting at their home with nothing. I do not think the article is anti cruise line nor anti whatever country, I think the story needs to be put in perspective.
  8. I suspect the onboard crew are all there voluntarily. Better to be on the boat collecting something, living with room and board, not having too much to do rather than being sent home and getting nothing. On last nights news, it was said there are 57 cruise ships circling around US waters. 12,000 crew on board of which only 200 are American.
  9. Same here. Applied for renewal in January and have heard nothing. I check regularly and it is still pending. I go online to question and get a email back saying they are busy and due to COVID many offices are closed but worry not, Nexus has been expended. I call and get the same answer, they are overwhelmed and that is why Nexus expiry is extended for a year.
  10. I agree, it is easy to opt out but I do want to get them....occasionally, not every day. As for missing deals LOL, you are funny LOL. The "deals" being offered are not anywhere near as good as previous. I am not the only one that has noticed that. Marketing is one thing, used car sales tactics is another LOL And yes, I do want to see better deals and if they email me with a deal, I am wanting it to be a real deal or better deal.
  11. Wow, almost every day getting emails from Celebrity. They are sure trying hard to get business but some of the destinations will not be open this year. Plus the onboard amenities will be restricted. That and the deals do not seem very good. I think there were better offers pre COVID. I think they have to do much better to entice us (me) back.
  12. Now Europe is talking about closing to Americans. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/06/23/world/europe/coronavirus-EU-American-travel-ban.html
  13. There goes our November plans 😞 https://www.travelandleisure.com/travel-news/australia-borders-closed-2021-coronavirus https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/destinations/oceania/new-zealand/articles/coronavirus-new-zealand-borders-stay-shut-until-next-year/
  14. To something that appeals to more people of all ages or....go under. Gotta have passengers that spend money on not just the ride on the boat.
  15. Sounds like they had a gap to fill and fill quickly so, they just picked someone in the system. I suspect that is temporary. It is also interesting that other comments say thinks like "links those of us long time HAL cruisers in management" and "the future is murky even with his expert leadership." Some here long for the "old days" and others are looking for a newer future. HAL reputation for a very old timer cruise line has to change in order to remain an entity.
  16. Interesting comment. Mr Ashford is leaving but why was he there If no one can figure out for "whatever purpose for which he was hired." LOL And whomever Mr Kruse is, but if he had "expert leadership", why was he not there earlier or still there??
  17. Not sure you are accusing of incorrect or false answers but you are out of line.Emergency situations dictate what can happen. You accuse of not knowing the answer yet you post a rumor. Fact is, Canadian ports are closed and it is a 120 year old American law (Passenger Vessel Services Act of 1886) that prevents cruises from Seattle to Alaska. That is the answer. Now, if the cruise lines would register some of their ships in the US, this would not be a problem and they could save half their annual revenues
  18. So, Canada has cancelled all cruise ships with more than 100 passengers are banned until Oct 31 2020 must mean that all the cruises departing Seattle and Vancouver are all cancelled? The Alaska cruise season is finished for this year.
  19. Please read what I said before misquoting. I said " if the "full refund in the form of an Future Cruise Credit (FCC)" was for the exact cruise and one did not have to pay any additional, ". The word if is important to the sentence. Also, as I said "Not defending, " as well as invoking the "Peace of Mind" policy which is available to all. There is no untruth, just people plying with words., and sometimes out of context.
  20. But that is not what the Peace of Mind policy is. It is not one word, it is a statement. A statement with a qualifier. Not defending, just putting it into perspective and realistically. Also, if the "full refund in the form of an Future Cruise Credit (FCC)" was for the exact cruise and one did not have to pay any additional, then it could be OK. I say that because I suspect the price of cruises will be going up. Airlines are dong the same thing, future flight credits but, we all know the price of a ticket will be well beyond the credit.
  21. I think the entire travel industry, be it cruises or airlines or travel agencies or resorts et al are all suffering and worried "about its ability to continue as a "going concern" ".
  22. I think Argentina is only the first Country continuing with restricting travel. More are to come. While there are some that demand re-opening for economic reasons, there are those that want to ensure the medical issues are cleared internally. Transmission of COVID was purely from travelers coming into the Country.
