  1. I just got the email for my Veendam cruise next July. I'm not meant to go to Ireland. Two years ago, we cancelled because of DH's illness, and now similar itinerary is cancelled. I expected the cancellation when I heard about the sale.

The cruise comes up when I log in to the HAL site, but that is't surprising. It will take a while for that to catch up. I tried to do the form to opt for the bonus FCC, but after I filled it out, I got the spinning circle of dots.

I, too, will lose OBC. But it wasn't a lot.

  2. May 6, QM2 TA. Fully paid.

Cancelled March 6 (through TA). No FCC, no refund. TA says it could be up to 90 days, despite Cunard saying 60 days.

Because of the UK shutdown, I have received refunds from nonrefundable play tickets and nonrefundable train tickets. Hotel deposits were always refundable. The ONLY part of my trip not yet refunded is Cunard. (Air through Cunard, too, so I didn't have to deal with the airline).

Both I and the DW got the survey. Did anyone else notice that the logo and branding on the final (Thank you) page was for Princess Cruise Lines?

I got a HAL survey a few weeks ago and it also had that Princess branding.

Good morning everyone. Thanks for all the messages and great shopping ideas. We have The Visiting Angels coming for a visit today to discuss options. Even if they only do the shopping and errands now, I’m hoping they will find someone they like in case more help is needed on a regular basis. Plus there will be someone to have eyes on them a couple of times a week. My mom’s “I’m fine” is sometimes hard to believe, especially from a distance.

If that doesn’t pan out I will call the store she shops at or look into the other great ideas. Thanks so much.

Besides doing the errands I pretty much have no purpose here.  My mom once again has everything in control. Tough +++

@rjbean4 thank you for the link. I have shared the captains blog with them as well and they are enjoying it.

If all goes well today I’m hoping to head home next week (assuming they can start that quickly). I’m hoping my drive and border crossing will be okay.
@sotiris I appreciate the info about the plan. I do have one but I’m very glad to know I’ll need to share it with them. I’ll check the NWT link. Cheers. Fortunately, my partner is at home and she has the groceries under control, but I too would have wondered about fruit and veggies. I often get asked that and didn’t know they would okay it if you were a regular cross border shopper. She will either quarantine with me if she feels she can work only from home for those two weeks, or we will divide the house and she can bring me meals. 😁

Rest assured I will strictly observe the self isolation. I’m coming from a hotspot and don’t want to get ANYONE sick!

Ill let you know how the visit goes.
Please stay safe everyone! We need good people like you all to stay healthy!

We had Visiting Angels for my aunt when the basic assisted living arrangement wasn't sufficient, and they recommended Visiting Angels as supplementary aides. Every one I met was great. I hope your mother will accept help. My aunt was great about understanding her needs and accepting help. My MIL, on the other hand... 🙄

Thanks for the Daily report!   Will have to pass on the turkey/avocado thing (am I the only person who thinks avocado is a waste of stomach space?), but will enjoy leftovers from last night's anniversary dinner - take-out from our fave Italian restaurant.  Lots of garlic - it did a great job keeping the werewolves away!  LOL

    Smooth Sailing!  🙂🙂🙂

I'm with you on the avocados. And why do people put them on a BLT? That's just strange. The only use for avocado is making guacamole!

  6. So before any port they have to be at sea for 14 days. Good thing they didn't take passengers. This is going to be a very long trip. There's a bit of an edge to this post, and I can hardly blame him. It must be frustrating to wonder, as they approach the port, will there be a last minute GO AWAY!

Wishing Amsterdam, Captain, and crew a smooth 16 days and safe home to the crew who will disembark.

Yes, she was a force for sure.

FWIW, News Cafe has been sold and is under new, not so great management.

Aha! That's why my breakfast there in Feb was a lot more expensive than I remember and not nearly as good. For years, News Cafe was our breakfast stop before leaving for a cruise. DH died 2 years ago, and this time I thought about going to the 11th Street diner instead. But no, I wanted to stick with the tradition. Service was terrible. Next time, I'll go to the diner. Or maybe Big Pink for those fantastic waffles.

  8. My pre-cruise stay is always South Beach. Whether I'm sailing out of Port Everglades or Miami, that's my favorite place to spend a few days. I love the deco architecture along Ocean Drive and the Mimo architecture of Lincoln Road.

Today is the 100th birthday of Barbara Baer Captiman, one of the founders of the preservation movement. I find it ironic that on a day when the Miami Design Preservation League would be celebrating her birthday, their welcome center is closed and Ocean Drive is like a ghost town.

I look forward to when I can go back and see the classic and the quirky that is South Beach, then get on a cruise ship!

The ships are  literally built out...like a house  with walls that go right up to the property line on either side...with very limited outdoor space. Perhaps Princess felt that the more they keep pax indoors, the more they'll spend in the bars and shops.

That's one of the reasons we never sail Princess. Once a few years ago was enough.  Might as well be in a hotel someplace.....with a casino.

On my one and only Princess cruise I felt there was nowhere quiet to be except my cabin and my tiny little balcony.
