  1. We do not write cruise reviews for CC because of the selective editing imposed by the mods. It is the prerogative of CC to control what they allow on Reviews and out of respect we simply do not bother taking our time to author detailed reviews. One might consider that if critical reviews are routinely rejected then the existing reviews represent a false positive perspective.

    Hank

Just to clear this up. Cruise Critic doesn't edit anything on member reviews. If something violates the board guidelines or is missing something, it's sent back to the member with the reason listed and they're given the opportunity to resubmit it. If you'd like to see negative reviews, we can send you links to all the cruise lines reviews. It doesn't matter to us if it's negative or positive. It just has to be comprehensive. If you have any other questions, please write to reviews@cruisecritic.com

Thanks Hank. I appreciate you confirming what I supposed. So how on earth can anyone find a fair review anymore? I don't trust Tripadvisor now that they sell travel too.
TripAdvisor doesn't sell travel. They will let you price check different places for you but you can't purchase anything from TripAdvisor itself. Just like Cruise Critic. We don't sell anything either and to be transparent, Cruise Critic is owned by TripAdvisor.

Cruise Critic reviews are fair in that real members write them and it's their personal experience. Whether or not they say good things or bad is up to the cruiser. If you have any further questions, you can write to reviews@cruisecritic.com This discussion is off topic to the board but we wanted to clear a few things up. Write with questions but future posts will have to be removed for being off topic. Thanks!

  2. It may be HAL's decision to defer maintenance but it is my right and DUTY as a customer to warn others and I have and not only here. I find it disturbing that CC will not publish my review which though critical was fair and polite.
I have to comment here because you're posting misinformation. You submitted a review that is in our queue pending processing. Granted it is taking longer than usual because we have a HUGE number of reviews coming in but the confirmation e mail you received does tell you that you will get an e mail when the review is processed.

I'm happy I could clear that up. If you have any questions, you can write to reviews@cruisecritic.com

  3. Hi there! We have been in touch with a confirmed source at the cruise line and they've given us this statement to post.

"Sunday, April 23, 2017, while in drydock in Italy with no guests aboard, a fire occurred on a verandah aboard ms Westerdam located on starboard deck seven. It was quickly extinguished. Repairs are scheduled to be made in drydock and the ship will depart as planned with guests on its scheduled April 27 cruise from Civitavecchia to Venice, Italy."

Also, please confirm for yourselves the source of all photos. The initial photos are believed to have been from a 2003 incident. Let us know if you have any questions.

  4. We have never uses either one. The reason I was thinking about uber was we have an email where if we use our credit card to set up an account with uber we get our first ride up to $30 for free. Have not read through the details. There is probably a catch to it. I would be interested in hearing from anyone that has used either lyft or uber to get from cruise terminal to LAX. Prices, dependability, what to look out for, etc.
I saw that same promotion. We need a ride to Long Beach on November 20 from LAX. I'm tempted to try it but I'm leery because we've never used Uber or Lyft.

Harmony of the Seas Good experience by Delboy17

I had wanted to try an Oasis class ship for some time and this was a perfect opportunity as it was departing from my local port.I would normally avoid brand new ships, until the teething problems are sorted out,but this was a one off as it is unlikely that Harmony will return to Southampton. Crystal Symphony Excellent first cruise on Crystal Symphony by DaisyUK

This was our first cruise with Crystal and was a short 'try-out' before trying something more ambitious. I don't think it would be possible (for me at least) to cruise without a few niggles, but in this case they were very few and far between. The only negative worth mentioning is that I felt the decor, both in our suite and in some areas of the ship, were somewhat dated. The positives far outweighed this single criticism and we shall certainly cruise with Crystal again. Continue reading... Excellent first cruise on Crystal Symphony

Diamond Princess Not so rough Diamond by southampton observer

Our cruise was part of a package that started with 3 nights in Tokyo then a flight to Osaka with 2 nights there. We then joined the ship at Kobe for the cruise after which we spent another night in Osaka before flying home. It was our hope that the trip would give us an introduction to Japanese culture as well as being interesting, stimulating and enjoyable. Looking back I would have to say that it exceeded our expectations. We will sail with Princess again. Continue reading... Not so rough Diamond

Scenic Jasper Three weeks of Luxury by candjrs

Having wanted to cruise from Amsterdam to Bucharest for several years, we investigated several companies and chose Scenic because it appeared to offer an excellent service, wide range of excursions and, importantly, was all inclusive. The latter appealed enormously as we knew we would not be liable for an expensive drinks bill and tipping at the end of the cruise. Continue reading... Three weeks of Luxury

Celebrity Eclipse Very good for a first cruise by Mrsweeble

We were really impressed with Celebrity Eclipse for our first cruise. As mentioned, embarkation didnt go very well, but this was due to a technical glitch and they handled this well. The ship is beautiful, immaculately clean and well maintained. People have said in other reviews that furniture looks tired, but this isn't something we noticed or were concerned by. We had an inside cabin because I was aware that there weren't going to be many hours of darkness in the more northerly parts of our cruise, and I like to sleep in total darkness. Continue reading... Thomson Majesty Would come again. by arwen taylor

This was our first cruise, but we are widely travelled on a world wide basis and did have reasonably high expectations We travelled with two elderly people with health issues so picked a cruise as it was a good option for us all to have an enjoyable holiday without too many stresses. We arrived in Palma and were impressed with the amount of support we received, wheel chairs were provided and staff to push them which enabled us to collect to the luggage and board the coach with reasonable ease. 7. We sailed on the Spirit April 2 to 9 in stateroom 4479. There wasn't near enough information available about this room when I booked. I hope this is helpful to some.

4479 was our first inside room and I only booked it because the description said it is 281 square feet and it sleeps 5.

4479 is an inside room on the hull. It's the most far forward room port side on deck 4. The pros of this room are being on the deck where tendering and the gangway is for ports. It's HUGE. We had more room than we could use. It's economical. You're paying the same fare as others in an inside but you're getting twice the room.

The negatives were being right near the thrusters for docking and the anchor locker. You hear docking or anchoring every day for about 10 minutes in the morning and when you leave. It's kind of loud. You can't have a normal volume conversation. However, for us, on mornings we slept in, we didn't even hear it. We slept right through it. NCL doesn't have a dedicated web cam channel. It's difficult to see the weather. You have to wait for a web cam view to cycle through several other things. We were a direct shot up the elevators to everything forward but to go to the buffet or the kids club, it was a hike. Lastly, when in port, you're enclosed in steel and any wi fi signal you could get is not detected.

Even with the few negatives, we'd book this stateroom again and again because of it's size and price. I tried adding my original photos but there was an error. I honestly have no idea how to host photos on another site with a link. I never took the time to learn. I may try to figure that out and try again.

Ventura Bucket List Cruise - Lived up to all expectations!!! by Dance thDance

Having perused the reviews before we left, I was a bit unsure as to whether my best mate had made the right choice for this one......How wrong I was!!!! A fantastic ship, with the staff being more than helpful, even when I had an accident and ended up in a wheelchair for the weekend! The food and service for the whole duration, was second to none, and the prices were more than reasonable. Our check in was swift and slick, and nothing was too much trouble for our cabin steward. I stayed in a balcony room (5th deck, I think) and it was immaculate from start to finish. Continue reading... Bucket List Cruise - Lived up to all expectations!!!

Britannia P&O Britannia - Barbados to Southampton, March 2016 by SGrier23

This is my first Cruise review, although I have done many on TripAdvisor. This review if of our recent cruise holiday from Barbados to Southampton, finishing on Friday 25th March 2016. P&O Britannia is a massive ship, with over 3000 passengers and over 1300 crew. In many ways P&O Britannia is brilliant. In other ways, it is not good. The ship is beautiful inside, clean and well furnished. The public areas are wide and navigation is easy enough, except that the mid-ship has no stairs which go the full height of the ship, these stop on Desk 7. Continue reading... Minerva South America Discovery Cruise by Mprouse

Our first cruise on the Minerva. This was a trip made up of two cruises - Timeless South America and Natural Wonders of Latin America. We flew to Santiago in Chile from London Heathrow with Iberia. The flight was poor with a 2 hour wait in Madrid airport. The first section of the flight was considered short haul so any food or drink had to be paid for. This was not explained in advance so came as a surprise. We arrived in Madrid at night and all outlets for coffee, snacks etc were closed. Continue reading... South America Discovery Cruise

Britannia Party of 8 + 1 six month old by DJS83

First of all I'd like to stress that we all had a great time on the cruise. The staff were brilliant, very attentive and couldn't do enough.Every where was spotless,it couldn't be cleaner.I thought the rooms were good.We had an inside room and it was an adequate size for my wife and I plus our 6 month old baby. Two of the other rooms had balconies next to each other so the adjoining balcony door was opened to make it one big balcony. We all enjoyed spending time on there. The other good points were that food was always available, although very salty and quite sandy. The sail away parties were good fun. MSC Divina Crystal splendour by Mrs W of Wales

This is a very beautiful and big ship. All the stairs in the atrium have Swarovski crystal. We had a very good embarkation experience which was quick and efficient. Our cabin was on Deck 12 mid ship. The size of our cabin was very good. The only thing was there was not much room to put a suitcase. Our cabin bathroom was kept clean. There was an abundance of food. The top deck provided a self service area. There was very good choice. The main dining area, which was waiter service, provided good food. There was choice on the menu. The only thing that we found is that we were away for 2 weeks and had the same menu for the second week. Continue reading... Crystal splendour

Norwegian Star Great Cruise by abutler70

Arrived at the port by taxi. There are rude porters everywhere. I asked where to take the bags and the man said he has to take them but did not explain why. I prefer to carry them myself but you are not allowed. You then give them to him to take, he wheels them in and then you tip and this is for everyone. Never seen that before. A very greedy system. Managed to get on the ship at lunchtime which was good. So had a nice afternoon sitting in the sunshine and watching the start of the entertainment. Continue reading... Great Cruise

Splendor of the Seas Fantastic by Upthedon

This was our 10th cruise, 3rd on this class of ship and 3rd with Royal Caribbean. This cruise may have started on a tired outdated ship but there was nothing else tired about it except the passengers who seemed determined to have a great holiday. You should be proud of your staff, they were hard working, friendly nothing too much bother. Ok the theatre show, with exception of Beetles tribute were not brilliant but the other locations around the ship were brilliant. Great musicians and singers made for a party every night. Azamara Journey Superb cruise from Costa Rica to Los Angeles by Grahambythesea

As Journey was newly out of dry dock, there were some minor snagging issues with unfinished work but nothing to spoil the cruise. In the stateroom these were quickly rectified once pointed out. Caldera is not really geared for passengers on cruise ships so initially it looked a bit disorganised at the port, but in fact we were on board in 40 minutes with nothing lost. As this was a first time on Azamara (normally sail Celebrity) I cannot say how much improvement has been done to the ship but she looked splendid and the crew are helpful and friendly from the Master down. Adonia Experiences of a first time cruiser by Paleflier

Having never done a cruise before, I was unsure quite what to expect. However, I have been generally very pleasantly surprised. However, I do have some constructive comments and observations. We were flown out to Bridgetown on Thomas Cook from Manchester. Despite booking well in advance, we could not get seats on the Gatwick flight, so rather than having a one hour trip to catch our flights, I had a four hour drive, and the additional cost of a hotel at Manchester. In the general scheme of things, a minor problem, but one which could have been addressed more effectively by P and O. Continue reading... Experiences of a first time cruiser

Britannia Excellent cruise and beautiful ship by lynnek

Just arrived back from an amazing 14 nights aboard Britannia. The food was excellent in the main restaurants, the Horizon buffet, the Glass House and Sindhu but didn't try any others. Never had a problem with any seating in the buffet restaurant. Although we were part of a group of ten we never had problems getting seats in the bars or the theatre. Mainly we used the crows nest, the glass house and sunset bar and enjoyed them all. Continue reading... Excellent cruise and beautiful ship

Thomson Majesty Cracking cruise by Taxipaul

Embarkation was very smooth, as was the flight over. Cabin was bigger than i expected and was totally useable. I did hear reports of blocked toilets but this was soon rectified by a call to reception. The ship was lovely and kept very clean by the diligent staff. Youll read reports that the ship is old, passed her best etc etc. Yes it is old but its kept looking good by the hard working staff. Don't be put off by the cruisers who expect silver service for minimum cash outlay. Continue reading... Cracking cruise

MSC Musica A gamble that paid off! by Panto pen

Like many others we had read some not great reviews of MSC cruises and were aware that this might well be why they seemed consistently cheaper than some other cruise lines. This, however was one of only two cruise itineries that fitted in with our holiday time so we thought we would "risk" it. We are so glad we did! A very smooth and easy embarkation onto a very stylish ship with loads of well-designed public spaces. Our balcony cabin was of a decent size and nicely decorated with a very comfortable large bed. Queen Mary 2 Excellent Cruise by Cactus77

We travelled on Queen Mary 2 from Southampton to Rio, via New York, Fort Lauderdale, Amber Cove, Barbados and Salvador, from January to February 2016. The ship then carried on with her World Cruise. We thought the ship was mostly excellent throughout, although there were one or two worn areas of carpet and a cracked tile or two in the bathroom. Britannia Britannia cruise review by Simmo139

This was our 3rd cruise in the Caribbean ,1st on p and o ,the other two cruises were on the emerald princess. P and O make things so much easier for you than princess as you fly straight to Barbados and then you get transferred to the ship immediately, this is fantastic and you don't have to worry about your luggage as this is delivered to your room . This is a lot better than princess as with them you have to fly to Miami and have an overnight in a hotel before boarding the ship the next day .

Nordnorge In search of the lights, and finding out so much more about wonderful Norway. by Queenie1603

This was my 5th trip to Norway having previously visited by North Sea Ferry from Newcastle (with car), Queen Victoria, Grand Princess and the Ryndam. Norway is one of my favourite destinations but I have always visited in Summer, so long long days. I have always wanted to see the Northern Lights and Hurtigruten offer the chance to see the Northern Lights on their daily coastal service from Bergen to Kirkenes up in the Arctic Circle. My friend booked our trip through a TA who act as agents for Hurtigruten. Continue reading... In search of the lights, and finding out so much more about wonderful Norway.

Azura An Enjoyable Trip by Skintman

Some notes on what we did - I hope my ramblings and informative. All prices quoted in $US or £. Summary - we enjoyed the Azura itinerary - the weather was good and generally the food was nice. We found the service on board excellent. The flights and transfers were all fine, although Barbados airport has always been awful and it's not improved over time. We did find the ship busy at times. Azura is generally rated as 4* and that's about right. Continue reading... An Enjoyable Trip

Norwegian Escape ONLY NCL FROM HERE ON OUT NOW - AMAZING SHIP AND SERVICE!!! by learningpatience

The Escape is brand new so everything was shiny and new (i love new) and it was beautiful. The ship didn’t dissapoint either and it’s huge, the 3rd biggest on the water currently, but unlike the Royal Caribbean Anthem of the Seas we never felt lost or like we had to walk 5 miles to get somewhere. This was my 8th cruise and I have to say this was the best designed boat I’ve been on minus the cramped bedroom closet situation. After 4 days, we were still stumbling upon new bars and fun spots and unless I was in the casino, I never walked past a smoker ever. Continue reading... JOURNEY: very easy to check in online few days before and then just drop off bags-and not see them again until we got on board the ship-this was great and took away all the stress of travelling -The dream liner is a fab plane and a very comfortable way to travel .I am glad that Thompsons offer complementary drinks with the service for long haul, just adds a personal touch instead of being appearing money grabbing like some airlines. We are a couple in our mid forties with no children, we traveled the same itinerary twice as it is along flight from the UK. We have cruised a few times before with some being NCL. We love the big ships with plenty to choose from regarding restaurants and bars. NCL gave us the Ultimate Beverage Package for the two weeks and we purchased the 10 Specialty Dining Package. Azura Caribbean Azura A602A by Sanjam cruisers

We flew from Glasgow airport aboard a Thomson Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner in economy class and had booked our seats prior to flying, the flight was very comfortable my only observation being regarding the inflight meal. Up until last year even in economy class passengers were offered a choice from two meals, last year and again in this flight economy passengers had the choice take it or leave it,if you did not like chicken and pasta it could be a long flight without a meal. Adonia The Good, the bad and the Ugly on Adonia by Barre01

We really enjoyed our cruise around Central America on the Adonia. The sometimes elusive elements all came together to make this an enjoyable holiday. The highlights were: The Weather - not too hot or humid, occasionally windy. Fellow passengers - mainly well travelled British seniors who just wanted to enjoy themselves. The Ports of Call - different from the usual. Ships entertainment - very enjoyable. Continue reading... The Good, the bad and the Ugly on Adonia

Britannia Great holiday but some areas need a little attention by Kazzabella19

After a great flight on Thomson Dreamliner we arrived into the chaos that was embarkation at Barbados. We were luckier than some as my Mum is in a wheelchair so we got fast-tracked but I felt sorry for the crowds awaiting processing. Britannia is a 'nice' ship but a few things do need looking at. The entertainment was awful. What happened to the big names that used to put in shows in the evening? Continue reading... Great holiday but some areas need a little attention

I read some reviews before we left, could not believe some of the reviews that had been left on the Celebration. I have Been on the Thomson Celebration before so knew what to expect. We had an inside cabin with a double bed on the second floor. Clean and more than happy with it. The choice of food and drink is more than good. Celebrity Reflection Overall a good cruising experience by Taylors on tour

This was our first Celebrity Cruise having been with P&O and Costa. We felt young on P&O and did enjoy Costa but this was just us. The admin getting onboard was smooth. The room was really nice and and well appointed. The rest of the boat was smart and well maintained. There was modern art everywhere which was interesting even if not your taste. There were lots of bars for all tastes. The service in our ,local, on floor 3 central was the best service - great bar ladies! Continue reading... Overall a good cruising experience

Viking Star Viking Star Cruise, 5 star holiday by Hilary Salter

Everything about this cruise was excellent, from arriving on board to disembarkation. Our cabin was very comfortable with a lovely en-suite and a decent-sized veranda. The staff on board were great; first-class service from friendly staff for whom nothing was too much trouble. There was a superb variety of entertainment - films, dancing, cooking demos, plays, ABBA evening to name but a few and also very useful lectures about the places we were about to visit. Braemer Another Brilliant Cruise on Fred Olsen's Ship Braemar by susan08

We have travelled on three cruises with Braemar so we know the ship well. It is remarkable in the friendliness of the crew and excellent service both in the cabins, the restaurants and around the ship in the various lounges and services. The port and shore excursions are varied and the ship can get into smaller ports and avoid the need to tender passengers because it is comparatively small. The passenger capacity of about 900 means that the ship develops a community feel even when the cruise is comparatively short. Continue reading...
