  1. So sad that as to what CC has become (not CC in general, but some of the people on CC)... Fellow cruisers go out of there way to report issues for the sake of others... and then they get flamed! If you don't like what's being posted, move on to another thread! No need to flame someone that has taken the time to help fellow cruisers! How many of us have seen something that isn't right and never said anything?! I know I'm guilty of this!

Anyhow, thanks Op for the heads up! I'll be on SOS in May and I'll definitely be looking out! Glad that your mother is feeling better. My mom is 71 and she has another 20/30 years of cruising left in her!

    Cruise on!

  2. We've cruised almost 20 times and never tried NCL because of all the negative things that we've heard in the past. Well, we tried her this last Oct for the first time just to give them a chance, and we LOVED NCL!!!! Food much better than Royal, service was GREAT, cabins are awesome, entertainment top notch!

We're so glad that we gave NCL a chance! We sailed on the Escape and will be going on the Bliss this coming Oct. (after our Symphony cruise in May).

People, IGNORE these stupid 'awards' and go off of the REAL reviews! That is why we tried NCL, because of the reviews that are posted by real cruisers!

I think Princess and X are similar in the experience offered.

We have Royal booked for our Med cruise this year, so we will find out how that is.  Now, if I were sailing Alaska, I would choose Princess

We only have two Princess cruises under our belt, and they were BOTH boring and blah. The last one in 2017 was really bad. NONE of the workers wanted to be on that ship. It wasn't just my impression. Many in our group and many others posted reviews saying the same thing.

X was NOTHING like Princess! IMHO... Lots to do and staff was great! I was really impressed when many of the staff were waiting for us to board the ship (ABC Islands) and they were all dancing and having a blast as we all walked onto the ship! With drinks for us in hand! Great times!

Just to show that we're not biased, we have approx 20 cruises under our belt. Cruised on Commodore, Carnival, Royal, NCL, Princess and X.

One thing is that I will no longer knock any cruise line before I try them. I swore to myself that I would never try NCL because of the things that I've heard, i.e., lousy food, lousy service, bad staff, bad cruisers, etc. Well, we tried NCL this past Oct and it was probably the best or one of the best cruises that we've ever had, hands down!  I've told all of my friends to try her out! The food, activities, staff, beer selection, lol was great! We're actually booked on the Bliss in Oct.

As mentioned, I'll then do a comparison between X (Equinox), NCL (Escape), Princess (Ruby) and Royal (Symphony).

  4. I thought the same thing about X, however my wife and I loved it! Food is very good, entertainment was good. Plenty to do but not as 'loud' as Royal. Nightlife was good, pool scene good. I say go for it! Oh, the service is great!!

I've done a few reviews comparing X to Princess to NCL. I'd say stay away from Princess, IMHO.

FYI, we have done Royal several times. Doing Symphony in May and will post a review comparing them all.

  5. MDR's serve crappy food so people will upgrade to specialty dining.. Food use to be the bomb, no matter which cruise line you sailed on. From my PERSONAL experience, Royal starting making crappy food first.....! Coincidence that this is about the same time that specialty dining started coming out?! Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.

I'll bet that's the truth! :classic_biggrin: That's a lesson that you probably never, ever forget!  My wife and her mother saw a couple come leisurely strolling (literally!) back to their ship in Ensenada one time. When they reached the pier, the gate was locked and not a soul was anywhere on the pier. The longshoremen had already pulled the gangway away from the ship and the hawsers off the cleats on the pier and gone and the ship was floating away from the pier. The couple started yelling to no avail.  There was another Princess ship at the next pier and they ran over there where the same situation existed.  Both ships sailed away and the people were left standing on the ground watching them sail away. Don't know what happened after that as the ship's agent had already left also.  It's one thing to miss a departure at a US port and another thing to miss one at a foreign port!

It's good to hear that your experience didn't cause you to swear off cruising and that you still enjoy doing it!

    Tom

Lol, thanks Tom! My ordeal can be found here on CC... It was quite an adventure!

  7. My boys, one hyper, have been cruising since they were 3 and 9. Never had an issue!  Super safe.. but, it's our duty as parents to keep an eye on them. We also had rules, such as not going to the room alone and not to go into any of the room hallways! To many weirdos in this world!

They've  cruised about 10 times or so. Now into their 20's, I don't worry at all 😉

Someone was late coming back from our last port stop, but the ship waited for 10 minutes.  They finally showed up.

Lucky! They didn't wait for me! My wife heard the captain thru the walkie talkie say, 'we're not waiting for one person'!

  9. I was fortunate to do both skeet and hit golf balls off the ship in the early 80's...

A friend of mine, she's blond, asked what happened to the golf balls. I said that there was a scuba guy retrieving all of the balls and would bring them in later! She believed it!!
