  1. I did a group booking for a family group.  I just got an email telling me that I have Tour Conductor Credit.  Is this the same as onboard credit?  Will it just be usable on the ship or can I use it beforehand to purchase shore excursions etc.

    Thank you for any input.

  2. So to clarify this, I need to transfer my booking within 60 days to my TA.  It might be easier to book with them in the first place.  I usually leave my booking with Princess for a few months before final payment.  I do all the work anyway.  I know which cabin I want and have recently been booking on line.  So now I will be sure to transfer the booking to my big box store to get the onboard credit.

  3. We are a family group of 15 booked on the Bliss for June, 2019 for our 50th wedding anniversary.   We booked through one of NCL’s agents as a group booking.  We are having some conflicting information from her on what I have read here.  Basically, she doesn’t want to confirm things with us until final payment.  She told me reservations for specialty dining and shows could not be taken until final payment and that I need to call her for all reservations and excursions .  I think she is correct about shows but not specialty dining.  My question is:

Can members of our party reserve specialty dining before final payment?  We don’t all want to dine together every evening.  Some of our party have the specialty dining package and want to make their own reservation.  Can we do this through our own individual account or do we have to go through her for everything?

    Thank you.

  4. Appreciate your review and totally agree with you about the rating of the cruise and ship. We did the transpacific crossing from Tokyo to Whittier this spring. While our itinerary was an A- or so the ship was definitely lower rated about a B or lower. That said, I really enjoyed the cruise and would be willing to sail on the Golden again. We were lucky to have very few problems and enjoyed our mini suite.

  5. I am new to Norwegian. Trying to figure out the credit card. I will be paying for a family cruise and getting a lot of points. I will make my final payment and then get all the points. What would we the best use of my points. Can I get a cash credit for them? Or use them for a statement credit? I am used to Princess and the points I get there post ahead of the payment so I can use them as a statement credit. I think with Norwegian the points don’t post until the payment is made. Any advice would be appreciated.

  6. Thanks for a very informative review! We have booked the Bliss for Alaska for next June. We will have 7 children 4-12 in our group. I was interested to hear that you had good weather. I was wondering if you know whether the pool is heated? Also, would you consider the Bliss a family friendly ship?

Sounds like you had a wonderful time!

  7. We are debating the Ruby for a family cruise to Alaska next June. We will have young grandchildren who like to swim. I was wondering if the pools are heated? Or is it just too cold to swim? Also were there many families with children onboard.

Glad you had a great cruise! Thank you for offering to answer questions.

  8. Thanks for all the help. Will definitely look into pay as we go from now on. I usually book online through Princess and later transfer to a big box store for onboard credit. I have in the past used Travel Guard which the latter is associated with. However the last time I did this the agent came up with so many scenarios which would invalidate any claim that I did not go with them. We are in good health and do not anticipate any problems but you never know. We have used the Trip Insurance Store for our recent trips and I was just trying to get a round trip figure to go by. I also agree that it is better to get a policy with primary coverage. There are grey areas. I think we look at worst case scenarios which hopefully will never happen but we have to consider. We will probably over-insure as we usually do for peace of mind. We live in WA state so that makes a difference too. I will call the Trip Insurance Store and talk to them.

    Happy New Year [emoji322]

  9. We are adding up our prepaid and non-refundable expenses for purchasing insurance with pre-existing condition waiver at final payment. This policy stipulates that you need to include all of your expenses.

I have been told different things by agents on the following and wonder if anyone knows:

    1. Do we need to include taxes and fees charged by the ship as I understand these are refundable. If we had to interrupt our cruise are they still refundable?

    2. We are using FF miles for air. One agent told us we need to include the fee that the airline would charge to redeposit the miles if we had to cancel. Anyone else been told that? I had never thought of it but I guess it makes sense.

We usually book our cruises over a year out. At that point I do not want to pay hundreds of dollars for insurance (which would include pre-existing waiver ) as if we had to cancel we would loose the insurance money. So we get a policy with pre-existing waiver at final payment. I am not totally sure we need the waiver but like to be on the safe side.

This cruise is from Japan to Alaska so we will be overseas with Medicare only.

    Thanks for any help.

  10. Our experience on the whole has definitely been nice passengers, thank goodness. Only negative we have had has been on elevators. Survival of the fittest. Just take a deep breath and welcome several more passengers who will make sure the doors do not close. What is the huge rush? We are not going anywhere. This is my pet peeve. We witnessed one man who was given a nasty knock on his knee by a passenger in a wheelchair on the elevator who was rushing to get out. It was painful to watch. We have been on elevators where the cry is of course we can fit several more when it is obvious we cannot. So unnecessary. A little patience would go a long way. Anyway, we will continue to cruise and ignore the bad behavior of some passengers and appreciate the goodness of the majority.

  11. You will see it in the personalizer within a few days.

However, it is not shown under "Onboard credits for this booking." Instead its is shown under "All special services for this booking."

I do not know if it can be used pre-cruise since it is in a different category. Maybe someone else knows.

Thank you for the information. I think that probably the credit cannot be used for pre-booking shore excursions according to the Princess website. All purchased credits will be available once onboard. I will call to check. We can always use it for something else. We are looking forward to our next cruise in Japan and being on the Golden Princess again [emoji4]

  12. I have used the card for 9 years for Princess cruises. Since last year it has been a nightmare and the most recent use will be my last. Last October $500 OBC never appeared on my account. Since then I have used for statement credits and it has been no end of hassle redeeming. Most recent Princess purchase (yesterday) showed points not doubled. Oh goodie, another call to Barclay. After this, I am done. Find another card.

I was wondering does the OBC credit go on your account when you redeem the points ( so can use to purchase shore excursions) or not until you board the ship?

  13. Got an email yesterday that our 2/2/19 Hawaii cruise will now be on the Emerald instead of Ruby. I have not been on either of these ships. I was told we would keep the same cabin. We will also get updated information by July 19.

  14. What I did was apply the points to my statement. They credited me $500.

You can actually do that anytime. I did it after my card was charged for the balance owed on the cruise. It takes one month to see it applied.

Wondering how to do that. I made a final payment in August. Do I apply the points towards my next statement? I was trying to reach the $500 mark. Also, can I do it online?
