  1. Annabelle’s and Cape Fox Lodge are great suggestions…I will add the Alaska Fish house. Delicious fish & chips, chowder, etc. Very casual, but was just there last week and can vouch for the yumminess 👏
  2. Fabby, you may want to look into Virgin Voyages. They have a very different product than Celebrity (and I will admit, I haven’t cruised them yet) but they are marketing to adults only and seem to be very wellness and fitness focused as well as having a more robust vegan/vegetarian dining program. I will say that a cruise on any line is what you make of it (meaning if you focus on wellness it can be achieved just as easily as overindulgence). Hope you enjoy your birthday no matter where you celebrate it 🥂
  3. Fly and Sail….I board the Solstice tomorrow and you are clearly not having the best cruise….My husband and I will be celebrating our 30th anniversary, is there anything you enjoyed this week that we can look forward to?
  4. Thank you for the updates….can’t say I’m happy to hear about cold food in Blu…how is the entertainment? Live music? Shows in the theater? Are the drinks at least good? 😜
  5. Check your invoice. It should be there (although masked as abbreviations). Look for things like BEVPRINGRAT7. Or AINC ALWAYS INC. I wouldn’t worry, it should be there, but I also always bring a copy of my invoice in case I need to show someone “my receipts”. 😎. Hope this helps.
  6. As an avid solo cruiser the best advice I can give you is to keep that dining package and enjoy yourself. Dining alone can seem “weird” at first, but trust me, no one cares (they are on vacation eating their meal, not judging you). If you aren’t one to people watch, do what I do and bring your phone and earbuds…I personally listen to podcasts or audiobooks while I eat and in this day and age scrolling your phone while at a table is certainly not unusual. I think you will find that solo cruising is liberating and highly addictive 😎. Bon Voyage 🥂
  7. Please come back and keep us informed….we are embarking next week and would love updates on how the Solstice’s crew is fairing and how she looks overall….first cruises back from service can be spotty so I hope all is well.
  8. So, if I am sailing round trip from Seattle, but my ship docks in Victoria, even if I don’t plan to leave the ship I have to be tested (again)? And where would I administer this test? On the cruise ship? It would be helpful if the cruise lines would make these protocols more transparent.
  9. How do you find out which ships share a galley? Ask your server? We will be sailing Solstice in May, can we have the option of ordering off the MDR menu?
  10. I’m sorry Sailor (or anyone else who was kind enough to just answer the alleged original question) the OP has apparently turned this into his or her rant on the injustice of tipping on the consumer 😜 And whoever thinks how much money a server in NYC or Seattle makes is in any way relatable to a discussion on salaries for a cruise steward or bartender is beyond me.
  11. Yes and those of you who are so offended by tipping culture and/or too cheap to pay what should be a mandatory charge would be the first to complain that the fares have gotten “out of hand” if they rolled those fees into the base fare. Or maybe you think you have a better way to handle the complicated procedure of dividing the auto gratuities among those who have face time with guests and those who assist behind the scenes? Because for everyone who removes the auto grats so they can hand out $ to “those who deserve it” has no idea what it takes to run a cruise line as efficiently as they are run by a whole team. Is the current system perfect? No, probably not, but it’s as fair as it’s going to be for the time being. Just like you cannot remove port fees or taxes, you shouldn’t remove the auto gratuities. Tipping additional is completely optional of course, but just as the crew “has alternatives” you as a consumer have alternatives for your vacation money if tipping is just too unfair for you.
