  1. Thanks again for all this information! I took a lot of notes going through the postings. I feel like I know what questions to ask at least and that's a lot further along then I was a few days ago.
  2. Maybe the oft rumored Grand Asia??? I would love to know if that's a go in 2023.
  3. Yes I was looking at this for trip cancellation/interruption not wholly medical. This is complicated. I'm trying to understand what the 'look back period' is and how it would apply to us. We had no idea he had a medical condition when we made the deposit, so we're passed that opportunity. We have medical insurance that should cover us no matter where we are...with the exception of medical evacuation. I appreciate everyone's input, in the end it might help me understand what to ask insurers.
  4. We always buy travel insurance for our longer cruises but always just before we make the final payment, never with the deposit. Now we have a situation...maybe. I know I have to talk to insurers about this but I don't want to go into the conversations without any knowledge of the subject. Here is our situation... A few months ago, we put a deposit down for a cruise leaving next July. In the interim, we discovered that my husband had a blockage in his heart and needed a stent. This was done in August and he's fine now. We still have to get his cholesterol number down but he feels great. So now we know he has coronary artery disease, but he's otherwise okay. In your experiences is that a pre-existing condition? I'm hoping that some of you have had the same, or similar, circumstance. I would appreciate hearing about your experiences with this issue. Again, I'm just trying to get a little smarter about this whole thing. Thanks.
  5. I see the deposit is nonrefundable, that makes it a no-go for us. There's just too much time between now and then to take that chance. You have to go into willing to lose the money. If I were going I would do the middle two segments and fly home from Barcelona...oh well.
  6. Won't that be the same for the ship HAL is using in 2023? Isn't it about the same size?
  7. That's disappointing. DH really wants to sign up for something soon. I guess we'll see.
  8. We had a first class ticket on our ONE train ride to Southampton but the train was so crowded on that Sunday that they opened it up to anyone regardless of their ticket type. Maybe that's the only time that happened ever...but I somehow doubt it. As for disembarkation, you are really overthinking this! If you are anxious and antsy then that's how you'll find it...you will be stressed. If you take a 'whatever' attitude you'll be fine. We've taken many transatlantics, I've never found the disembarkation process to be difficult and we've been on trips with delayed disembarkations where everyone was backed up (problem with the crew onshore I heard). If you want to self disembark then do that or you could hang back and be one of the last off (around 10 ish). Just relax, you'll be fine. Enjoy your trip!
  9. Another option is taking a car service or Cunard transportation into London. The trains are inexpensive and that makes it attractive but if you don't like to deal with crowds then you might want to consider an alternative. We took the train to Southampton ONCE on a Sunday, never again. It was packed because of cancelled or delayed trains. Sunday is not the best day for trains in England because of 'train works' If you have any kind of OBC the trip on Cunard transport might turn out to be 'free'. We usually use a car service, smithsforairports.com but there are plenty others. Nothing like door to door service.
  10. I see a number of cruise lines have already posted their 2024 world cruises but I've seen nothing on Cunard. Has anyone heard anything from their TAs on this?
  11. Same here, it took about a week to hit my card. This happened just last week. Hopefully OP will get theirs too.
  12. Okay no Europe but how about Grand Cruises (if any) for 2023?
  13. You mean not photogenic (rather than attractive) I'm sure. Neither am I but my sister somehow is...I'm not sure how that came about.
  14. A Canadian poster on the HAL site (I believe) stated that the vaccine card they get from the Canadian government only shows they are fully vaccinated not that they had AZ then Moderna (or whatever). She seemed pretty sure it wasn't going to be a problem. Maybe you can take a close look at your proof of vaccination card to see what it actually says.
  15. I would be interested to see if this starts a trend with Oceania. We're booked for next July but our final payment is due in February with penalties kicking in almost right away. It's giving me pause because I could put two Cunard cruises together and cover the same general area without having to pay so far in advance and risk losing money. I was surprised when I saw the terms at booking (this is my first time booking on Oceania). I hope they do reconsider their final payment policy.
  16. Great information, thanks for taking the time to detail all of this. There are things here I didn't even consider. I'm going to have to do some research! I remember the long subway escalators...I white-knuckled them all the way!
  17. Also…forgot gratuities were paid for (again early booking perk)
  18. That's not accurate. It's Cunard that offers the perks like the laundry once a week, we did not get them from our travel agent. I remember they also gave us a wine package, maybe 6 bottles, not sure because we don't drink and converted it to a soft drink deal once we got on board. We also got some on board credit, also from Cunard. In addition if you or your spouse is a veteran you can get a $250 on board credit on top of whatever perks you get elsewhere.
  19. The Faberge Museum is on top of our list, I don't even think it was there when we visited on a previous cruise. After that, I'm not sure because we've seen the palaces and the Spilled Blood church. We did the river cruise and really enjoyed that. You're right that is very relaxing. I'm still trying to figure out the pricing on Oceania shore excursions, we haven't purchased the unlimited package and probably won't but I think if we book so many tours we can get a discount. We did not spend enough time at the Hermitage so we want to go back there. There's plenty of time to plan and maybe other excursions will be offered before we sale.
  20. Although we weren't in the grills we were offered a laundry perk. This was for early booking. I don't remember how it was worded but essentially you get one free bag of laundry each week (max 20 items).
  21. Thanks for all the good information. Paulchili - we will be there on a Monday so that's great news for the Hermitage, I had no idea that option would be available. Katiebelle - I hadn't thought of doing dummy bookings, you're right you can learn so much doing that. It's good to hear we could do two tours in a day if we want. We were on a private group tour the last time. The tour guide was great, the sites fantastic...some of my fellow passengers...meh. One couple kept trying to bring up politics with the guide and another, even though they advertised the tour as extremely strenuous, kept trying to slow the group down and demanding breaks because they were tired. We will be looking into private tours but I like to have the option of ship tours as well. One thing I noticed is that a tour I saw available early on is not on the list now. It was a high speed train ride to Moscow for the day. Maybe it doesn't run anymore?
  22. We'll be taking our first Oceania cruise next year which includes an overnight stop in St Petersburg. We've been to St Petersburg with another cruise line some years ago and did an exhaustive two day tour with a private company. This time we want to hone in on a few particular spots. I noticed there are a lot of half day shore excursions offered which may suit us just fine. My question for anyone who has been to SP on Oceania before, can you take two in one day? Are they timed so that you can come back to the ship and pick up an afternoon tour if you want? Thanks.
