  1. I’ll be landing at YUL at 4:10pm from Detroit. I’ve been reading up on taxi vs Uber. From what I’m getting for all the information, it appears that because I’m coming in during rush hour, my best bet would be a taxi due to the dedicated taxi lanes. Would this information be correct? Also, if I were to jump on the 747, how would I know which stop to get off? I’ll be staying at the Fairfield Inn on Rue Berri and I’m having difficulty finding a 747 route map with street names.
  2. Just curious…I booked in two nights at the Level Hotel for an NCL cruise in the end of September. I’ve not found many reviews about it but I liked the fact that there was a full kitchen and two bedroom/two bathroom availability as I’m traveling with a friend (not a close friend though). It’s about the same price as two separate hotel rooms with the added bonus of having rooms together and not on different floors. What are the opinions of those who live in the area - safe for walking? I’m from Detroit and my friend is from NYC so we both know how to be “street smart” but still want to be in a safe neighborhood.
  3. So far I’ve only sailed on NCL…please don’t let the activity level on the Sky influence you on things to do for your kids! The Sky is one of the oldest and smallest ships in the fleet. Once you see a Breakaway or Breakaway + ship, there is so much for the kids to do! PS - my favorite ship with NCL is the Sky because there is nothing to do….but relax! I’m also branching out over the next three years with 2 cruises booked on Celebrity and one on HAL. My sister sails with me a lot and switched from Royal to NCL as she was more impressed with NCL, so I probably won’t try Royal for a while. Please keep in mind that food is very subjective and while I may dislike something, others will love it. I’ve never had a bad meal at LaCucina and have never had a good meal at Moderna, but others will say just the opposite - and that’s OK!
  4. I agree with everything you said! Once it gets dark out, the stargazing is amazing - and there’s no light from the bridge interfering! I was on the Sun in Alaska and the balcony wall was steel - we would move the loungers closer to the balcony wall to block the wind while underway and just lay there, covered with a blanket for hours looking at all the stars.
  5. I sailed forward facing PH on the Sun on my second cruise to Alaska - and I would do it again in a heartbeat! The wind wasn’t too bad and the balcony was huge! We left our sliding door open and turned up the volume on the television so we could hear the Ranger talking about Glacier Bay. If we got chilly, we just went into our room for a couple minutes to warm up. It was amazing!
  6. I’m a hard working RN and not wealthy by any stretch of the imagination! I cruise in the Haven so I can get Grade A treatment while I’m utilizing some very valuable down-time. I hardly ever use the services of the Concierge with the exception of priority embarkation/debarkation and printing my boarding pass from my flight home (which saves time when getting to the airport and having to stand on line at a kiosk to print my own.) I book my own reservations for dinners and excursions because I want, no need to have control of my schedule. Trust me when I tell you, I CAN do everything by myself, but for one week a year, I want to feel like I’m a wealthy, stay at home, have someone wait on me woman!
  7. My parents always said that there are three sides to a story: yours, mine and somewhere in between them, lies the truth!
  8. Happy (almost) Thanksgiving, AndyCapn! With living across the Detroit River from Windsor, we tend to celebrate both the Canadian and American Thanksgiving!
  9. I’ll be coming onboard as you are leaving! I’ll be interested in what you think about Puerto Plata - not sure yet if I’m getting off the ship or not. Have an amazing time!
  10. I’ll be boarding the Escape in two weeks…I’m curious as to what your top favorites items to order from Pinchos is! I plan on using one of my speciality credits here……
  11. I’ll be following! I board the Escape 3 weeks from today! This will be my first time sailing out of Miami in the new terminal - so I appreciate all the signage pictures! Have an amazing time!!
  12. I’ve sailed many times in a forward facing suite - and enjoyed it immensely! Most times the balcony is “sheltered” by the hull, making it useable when the ship is underway. I’ve sailed in Alaska on the Sun in a forward suite - and would do it again in a heartbeat! We also opened the door to the front balcony while underway….just keep in mind that your cabin door to the hallway shouldn’t be opened at the same time as this creates a wind tunnel. The only downside to forward facing is you have to have your drapes closed at all times when it becomes dark so the bridge can navigate with night vision and your cabin lights would interfere. Can it get windy? Absolutely! But when it got windy, we simply sat and the wind essentially blew over our heads. Everyone will have opinions - but don’t let the chance of wind bring you down!
  13. Not a “casualty of Covid”. I sailed in April, 2019 with two kids and purchased the soda plan. I asked about a refillable cup and was told that they no longer had them.
  14. Thanks for the tip! I’ll check that one out. Too bad I can’t book one yet - but researching early is a must.
  15. I’ve never been on the Joy BUT I’ve been getting the Premium+ package just for this very reason! The ships I’ve sailed on with Starbucks didn’t have alcohol at the Starbucks. So I would get my cold brew and ask them to leave a little bit of room….and toddle right over to the bar next to (or closest to) the Starbucks and get two shots of Baileys! By the end of Day 2, I would just removed my lid, they scanned my card and poured!
  16. @Turtles06 Thanks so much for the review of Puerto Plata! I’ll be on the Escape in June and was hoping that I could simply hang around the port without booking an excursion. Fingers crossed 🤞that we will be able to get to Taino Bay….
  17. Thanks Nitemare! I have an alarm set on my phone to remind me in 10/2023 to book! I’m happy to hear that Faneuil Hall has good lodging nearby! I will start looking at hotels near there so I can plan accordingly! Maybe I’ll just come in one night early…..but the price for the cruise was amazing and I knew that October in Boston would be pricy!!
  18. What area/hotel would you recommend for a solo (61F) traveler to stay 2 nights pre cruise for a “walkable” hotel? I’d like to stay around $500 per night. I know the prices are going to be sky-high as my cruise leaves on 10/18/2024 - same day as the Charles Regatta! 😢
  19. HUGE road trip! LOL I’ve have Poutine from Vancouver, BC to Halifax, NS. I always thought the east coast of Canada had the best - and this explains it!!
  20. Of course, being from Detroit and seeing your profile picture, I am now craving Poutine! I think a road trip may be in my near future!
  21. I logged on to see what mine showed - “Union + Privilege”….. what the heck does that even mean?
  22. 211 for the Jade 519 for the Celebrity Ascent I think I need to book a shorter one in between these two!
  23. I haven't sailed out of NYC in a number of years (and at time, I had a couple kids with me), so I don't remember if there is any signage indicating you where go once you pass security for Haven guests. I don't remember it being too difficult though.....17 days until boarding!!
  24. I sailed on the Dawn in 10006! Almost my favorite cabin - comes in second after the GV on the Gem with 3 bedrooms, 3.5 bathrooms, piano, private courtyard, etc - and 6 bottles of booze! (I fell into that great deal way before bidding was a thing)! Oh those were the good old days! I agree that the Haven suites just aren’t what they used to be…….🥺
