  1. I have been to Lisbon 6 times in the last 6 months. Some of my favorite hotels: Very chic and upscale: Valverde, The One Palacio Anunciada, and Memmo Alfama ( this last is more “hip” some great options at a less expensive price: Casa De Janelas com Vista 1869 Principe Real
  2. Thank you for your prompt replies. They have been helpful!
  3. Hi It has been quite a few years since we have sailed Celebrity and we are really looking forward to our French Riviera/Dalmation Coast in July. As it has been a while, could you refresh my memory about the lunch options on embarkation day? We also will be doing the "free dining" for a group of 9. This will be our first experience on Celebrity with a larger group. any tips on getting a good table and service ? We will be arriving in Venice to disembark. What is the latest time we can get off the ship? Will the dining room be open for breakfast or only the buffet? Thanks. I plan to write a photo review when I return.
  4. Mary, i really enjoyed your balanced review and your blog. Many wonderful details and photographs. I am curious about river cruising, but have my reservations. I will have to try it at least once to get it out of my system!
  5. We did the Ecuador portion on our own and booked our own flights to Baltra. It was an adventure, but so worth it! Here ia a detailed of what we did and how. Our Xpedition cruise was extraordinary, but so was our Ecuador experience. https://boards.cruisecritic.com.au/showthread.php?t=1444153
  6. We had the pleasure of visiting Lerwick twice, once on HAL and once on Crystal. On our HAL cruise, we had a very big issue with immigration upon arrival. The immigration agents insisted on personally boarding and checking all passports. All passengers were around two hours late getting off the ship. We had a wonderful day, but the initial debarkation was quite chaotic and frustrating. We always had fog which complicated the tendering process. One Crystal things were easier and more organized. We had slots to have our passports checked and it was much faster. The tendering was easier as well and we had clearer weather. However, both visits were magnificent and I long to visit again. Some of the best Iron Age archeological sites are located on the Shetlands. here is my family dressed like Vikings at one of the Brochs.
  7. I enjoyed The Kensington on our last visit and the Park Lane Hilton on a previous trip. Both are well appointed and nicely located. I particularly loved the location of the Kensington which is quite close to Museum Row and to a tube stop and many restaurants.t The Kensington
  8. When will the Connie be refurbished?
  9. We stayed at the Hotel Granados 83... their quad rooms are wonderful and even have a private terrace with a plunge pool. The price is reasonable and it is in a nice neighborhood. Not sure hiw many family rooms are available. http://www.hotelgranados83.com/en/rooms-1/family-room/
  10. Me too... and I agree wholeheartedly. A gracious and intelligent family woman. May she rest in peace. I just vacationed at the Gasparilla Inn in Boca Grande, Florida. The Bush family spends a few weeks there every winter and they are spoken of highly.
  11. When is your sailing? Trying to determine how far ahead they allow groups less than 5. Thks
  12. We did this night tour ( May 2015) and it was wonderful. No crowds and a real opportunity to see the splendor of the Vatican. https://darkrome.com/vatican-tours/vatican-night-tour
  13. Keith, Great photos! Our son will be moving to Portugal ( Porto specifically) in September ro attend the university, so we will be visiting a lot! Lots of new adventures. Someone asked about safety. Portugal is considered the third safest country in the world ( you can check the statistics). Do you have a hotel recommendation in Lisbon? We will be going there in September and December. Thanks Kim
  14. My husband and I did this tour on our own...we rented a car, did the Godfather rour by ourselves and then visited Taormina. We were by ourselves, but we frequently rent cars while cruising with our family of five. The only challenge was parking in Taormina and some steep hills going on the Godfather tour. It was a great day and very inexpensive. There are photos and more details in this review https://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2214231&highlight=Serenity+live+newbie
  15. I have sailed the North Seas on two different itineraries and was apprehensive about the possibility of seasickness. One itinerary left from Amsterdam and sailed to Tilbury. We had some motion going from the Faroe Islands to Iceland, but just for one evening. We also did an itinerary which included Dublin, Waterford, Greenock (Scotland), the Shetlands...we had choppy seas on the tenders in Waterford (Dunmore East) but that is all. Both cruises were in July and we loved them.
