  1. Hi everyone!

My family and I will be traveling on the Oasis in 11 days and stopping in San Juan. The last time we were there, my mom and I just walked Old Town and shopped. We will probably do the same but also wondering if its feasible to walk to the Fort? If so, how long is it and is it easy to follow the path?

    Thank you!

  2. Hi everyone!

My DH, 10 month old DD and mom are traveling on the Oasis in 11 days! We want to keep it low key and not do an excursion in St. Maarten but would like some beach time and a little shopping. I have been to St. Maarten a couple of times but have always just done the Tiki Snorkel Hut. So a couple questions...

    1) Where do we get the water taxi? It is simple to get tickets and everything?

    2) What beach is walkable from where the water taxi docks? I know the main beach has issues with pollution (or so I've read) so besides that one, what others are around that we can just walk to?

    3) Any other suggestions for things like restaurants, shops, etc.

We do NOT want to do anything that requires a car as we won't have a car seat hence us wanting to stay close to the ship.

    Thank you!

  3. I'm looking for suggestions on the best deck for a balcony overlooking the Boardwalk.

It looks like my choices at the moment are on 8, 10 and 14. We'd like to be able to see as much of the theater as possible. I'm not sure of the room numbers or how far aft the available cabins are, but I'm thinking mid-boardwalk to aft would be good? We'll be using an elevator most of the time for my daughter's stroller so walking proximity up and down isn't a huge deal.

    Thank you!

  4. Thank you! The sheet and blanket make me nervous too so I think I'll just throw a pack and play sheet in the suitcase.

Good tips about the high chairs too, I didn't even think of that. I don't think we're interested in having one in our room, but did you even have to ask in the dining room? We're doing select dining in the MDR, so I hope after the first night they'll keep one handy for us. How did things work out in the Oceanview and the Aquaspa Cafe?

Also, I think you mentioned it in another post, but I didn't consider changing tables either. No big deal, sounds like we'll be heading back to our cabin to change diapers as well.

We just got a travel stroller for this trip, and although I don't like it nearly as much as our regular one, I know it will be very convenient to have on the ship and in port.

Thanks again for all the advice!

We didn't use high chairs all the time but the night we asked for one in Blu, they had to hunt one down and it was in the Tuscan Grille. At the buffet, we just kept her in the stroller but I saw a few floating around sometimes. Usually you needed to ask someone to find it. AQ or not, I think they are just not used frequently.

We just used a regular crib sheet and it was fine. Ours felt wobbly, not like it would collapse or anything but if our DD was standing at all, I would be nervous. I'm sure they could have replaced ours if I asked.

  5. Geez, did the OP's comments about her enjoyment of the cruise ever go sideways?

Wonders10, glad you had a good time and do not let the negativity prevent you from going again. Perhaps some of the complainers are the same ones that have issues with babies regardless where they are, in restaurants, on airplanes or, wherever. I think what they have is called misopedia.

Anyway, my question is, did you have to pay for the baby on the cruise? I have heard that the cost is significant, regardless of the fact that the child does not partake in any of the meals etc. What were you able to get ? Did you let them know it was a baby? Did they provide any "baby essentials"? A crib in your cabin? Did you have to bring everything for the baby or did they have baby "stuff" available? I have family in the exact situation and are going on a cruise and had to pay quite a bit for their, what will be at the time, an 8 month old as well.

Oh yes, we paid for her. The same amount as an adult, double occupancy. They knew it was a baby. Luckily, we got the specials with free drinks, obc and gratuities. They offered to have diapers and wipes, for a fee but I didn't inquire as I figured the price would be outrageous and I also use pampers (they use Huggies). There is one public bathroom, near the kids club with a changing table so we just went to the room when necessary. Request a high chair and pack and play before you go! They will make food or supply it if you ask but again, we didn't partake, just brought our own stash of everything. Never ever did I feel out of place, despite some of the comments to the contrary. I think we actually received some of the best service we've had in our cruises. Enjoy!

  6. Well, this thread certainly derailed quickly!

OP- if you're still following, I did have a few baby related cruise questions for you; it's hard to tell at this point but I think that was the original intent of this post ;)

I assume you requested a pack and play in the room, did Celebrity provide fitted sheets for it? Did the room attendant leave it set up all day or was it put away when the room was made up?

Trivial question, but If you requested baby food from the special needs department, did you receive jars or pouches? Our daughter doesn't really eat baby food any more (she'll be 15 months old when we cruise next month), but I did request a small amount to use as snacks when we're off the ship. The pouches would be so much more convenient!

I think that's all the questions I have for now... But feel free to post any other helpful tips you might have. Anything you brought along that was helpful, or didn't bring that you wish you did? We've cruised plenty before kids, so we know what to expect and we chose a cruise over a land vacation because of how much easier it will be (not looking forward to a 10 hour flight though!). The only thing that could make it easier still would be if we were cruising with a baby the age of yours instead of a young toddler. She's a different little person than she was 6 months ago!

We did request a pack and play...they didn't put a sheet, just folded. Sheets and a blanket. That made me nervous and luckily we brought a crib sheet which worked fine.

We didn't request food, just brought our own, but I'd imagine they'd be very accommodating.

We brought a much smaller stroller which helped maneuver through the crowds and narrow hallways.

Request a high chair too. They were hard to find all over the ship.

I'll try to think of something else but feel free to ask questions!

  7. Honestly, I appreciate everyone's comments but I feel like I need to keep defending myself and I'm not going to. We all have to agree that we have different opinions in babies and young children on cruises and that's what makes the world go round. I wish you all happy and safe cruising.

  8. Hi there! While I am glad you had a great time on the cruise with the baby---I guess my only "issue" is that a baby (or any small child) is allowed to dine in the Blu. I have nothing against kids, raise two of my own. However, the last two cruises we book on Celebrity was Aqua class. We enjoyed eating in the Blu, because of no small children. In fact the first time we were told they didn't allow small children in Aqua class. I LOVE children, and I work with high school special ed kids. So the only time we can travel is when the ships are going to have more children on board. Also, we have met several other "school employees" thats when they they can travel---Spring break. We enjoy getting away from kid---eating in the Blu and relaxing in the adult pool area. I know when we are in other areas, yes there may be kids. That doesn't brother us. But when we pay the extra $$$ to be in Aqua Class I want to be kid free. Sorry!!!! And the adult pool area---NO KIDS should be allowed!!! We have booked a cruise for April 2017, this time it will be a regular balcony (Aqua class was $1,200 more) and plan on using our ship board credit to eat in some of the fine dining. When we have grand kids (expecting our first in Oct :-) When we want to take them on a cruise we will look into some of the more family/kid cruises. IE--Disney or even Royal Caribbean, Norwegian

Even on Celebrity I would make sure we would stay in family pool area, ate in MDR etc.

I had my concerns and voiced them repeatedly to multiple employees when booking the cruise and was ever told no so....I know it's rare. Very rare. But still not against the rules. We did a family Mediterranean cruise in AQ (pre-baby) and my 10 and 12 year old niece and nephew ate there without issue.

  9. This is a very interesting discussion. While as a 50 something grumpy old man with no kids , I more than sympathize and agree with Norweigian, I applaud the OP "Wonders woman". I for one don't care to seek out family oriented cruises. But as long as the paste eaters are not allowed to run amuck all over the ship and there is in a different adults only area of the ship that I can escape to, it doesn't phase me.

While it is a parents responsibility to manage their Cheerios tossers, a lot of blame lies with the cruise staff in not enforcing the stated policies. Case in point, is our recent February cruise on Allure of the Seas. A couple brought their screaming toddler into the restricted Solarium (16 and older). When I asked the bar tender to have someone ask them to leave, he said there was nothing they could do. That was unacceptable.

Thank you and I couldn't agree more. We didn't bring her to clubs at night, or the adult pool area, or the casino, or anywhere that broke the rules. And I was uber conscious of what she was doing and how those around me were responding to it. I tried my best to be considerate. I'll sadly admit that I've encountered more rude adult son vacation than children.

  10. I'm bragging here because our DD is freakishly good. Like, we will be getting paid back for it dearly when she is a teenager I'm sure. But...she did have a rough afternoon when attempting to go down for a nap. She was in the cabin next door with my mom, and I had NO idea she was crying and fighting her nap until she told me an hour or so later. Other than door slams and noises in the hallway, I heard nothing.

  11.

Congratulations on your marriage, I'm delighted you had a wonderful honeymoon with your family, I'm so sorry some people just couldn't wish you well. Thanks for the feedback, maybe you could post on the children/babies part of the forum as I'm sure you would have some tips for other people looking to take a cruise with young ones :)

Wait...what?! There's a kid cruising section?! Now you tell me lol.

  12. I dont even understand why the OP would post that they had a wonderful cruise with their baby. That everyone loved their baby. That someone gave their baby flowers. That everyone should bring their babies on cruises. Well the last sentence wasn't really there, but is that the point of the post?

I believe she was offering to answer questions and offer tips to others who might want to travel with their babies. Or maybe, like the rest of us, she enjoys chatting about cruising.

    YES! All of this!

I didn't really get that the OP was encouraging everyone to bring their baby on a cruise. My take is that she was a bit apprehensive, not knowing what to expect, and was so pleased that the crew and fellow passengers were kind that she wanted to share her experience. She didn't say so but possibly this is her first child and she is just getting used to new experiences with a little one.

Personally, I appreciate when people post positive cruising experiences because there are sure lots of the other kind on these boards.

Whether I love or don't love cruising with children is my individual preference, and it's up to me to do my research and choose times, destinations, and cruiselines most likely to offer me the type of vacation I enjoy.

Geez Louise...I knew I should have kept my mouth shut. I barely come on CC anymore because all I read is negative posts but because I read very little about baby cruising, and I did have a great experience, I wanted to share that and offer any help to other new parents who may be thinking of the same thing. I just got married a week ago, we have an 8 month old daughter who I did not feel comfortable leaving at home so my mom joined us and we had a great family trip. Is that too positive for all of you? Ok, here's a negative...a dead bird was on our balcony and the rocking ship caused the bathroom door to close on finger. My cruise was ruined....oh wait, no it wasn't.

    Happy cruising everyone!

    • Thanks 1
  13. A Disney cruise is definitely on our radar as is a return on the Oasis of the Seas, but I will proudly book with Celebrity again in the future. And judging by the number of babies and young families I met on this cruise, I think I will not be the only one. This cruise, our honeymoon technically, was a great trip and until Celebrity tells me otherwise, I will continue to cruise with them when it fits with our schedule.

  14. Yikes, a hot tub? Besides the no babies in the pool rules, I would never put her in the hot tub of all things. Seems very unsafe.

There were a couple moments where our DD got a little louder than I would like during dinner, and I quickly scooped her up and brought her out to a quiet spot and then returned when I felt she was calmer. I also saw 3 8-10 year olds running and playing hide and seek in the adult pool area. Now that was annoying.

  15. I choose to focus on the positive...like the families who stopped us at dinner and said how adorable and well behaved she was. Or the woman who came down to Blu on the last night and gave her a small bouquet of pink roses even though she wasn't eating at Blu that night. Not to mention the multiple crew membership knew her by name.

  16. Hi everyone,

My new husband and I just returned from a 5nt cruise on the Constellation. Our 8 month old daughter and my mom came as well. We stayed in 2 side by side A1 Aquaclass cabins on deck 11.

We ate in Blu every night, except for one because of a late excursion. The guests could not have been more welcoming and the crew was very accommodating! She slept great, loved the music by the pool and I never felt like we shouldn't be there because we had a young baby. Obviously all babies are different, but ours has been bitten by the cruise bug!

Feel free to ask questions about cruising with a baby or just cruising in general!
