  1. we were once delayed getting on a ship as the previous sailing had been to Belize...apparently Customs checks people more thoroughly returning from Belize....maybe this is the reason?

It will have gone to Belize this week, so that sounds like a winning theory. Although, you’d think they’d prepare for that when assigning arrival times.

  2. I wouldn't stress over it . Sometimes you can receive those emails just to keep the masses from invading the port to early . Other times there could actually be a delay.

I thought it was weird that it was sent 4 days out, so I thought there might be a known propulsion issue or something. I was more curious than anything else. Either way, we take changes in stride, which is why we don’t mind sailing during hurricane season.

  3. Does DCL have ship models available for purchase in the onboard shops? I have collected several ship models from our CCL cruises and would like to add the Wonder when we go at the end of the month.

  4. Thanks for posting the text!

That is what they would recommend and request you wear.

But formal night dressing up is optional, not compulsory, and the Palo dress code I posted above is directly from their website.

Dress pants and a shirt is all that is required for men, and in todays standards, dressed up enough (if you wish) for formal night.

Thanks! I appreciate all the advice. I feel so much like a fish out of water right now lol. I could tell you anything you ever wanted to know about CCL, but with Disney I feel like such a newbie. I have been reading over dozens of reviews and trip reports.

  5. Oh man...that picture is awful. Here is the text.

    FORMAL ATTIRE

Your voyage includes at least one formal evening. On these special nights, most women wear a gown or dress, and most men wear a jacket and tie. If you prefer a tuxedo, men's formalwear is available for rental during your cruise. In addition, If you'll be dining in one of our adults-only restaurants, we recommend a dress or pantsuit for women and a jacket and tie for men.

  6. Thanks for the great info! I just received an email from Disney with some tips about what to expect. It stated that formal night and Palo have a dress code of coat and tie for the men. Would I be out of place with slacks and a button up and tie? I haven't worn a coat to dinner in some time and will need to buy one. We used to get "fancied up" on Carnival, but they have gotten lax on their dress code (nice jeans and a polo on normal days and slacks and a nice shirt on formal night. I don't mind, and actually enjoy dressing up for dinner, but on Carnival it has almost become swapped where you may feel out of place if you are dressed too nice.

  7. My wife and I are booked on the 7 night Wonder cruise from San Juan. Neither of us have sailed Disney and have been pretty spoiled by Your Time Dining on Carnival. I am just trying to wrap my head around the rotating dining plan and looking for advice on Palo.

Given that the cruise is 7 nights, can I assume we will eat in two of the restaurant twice and 3 times in one of the dining rooms? Is there any way to know the rotation before getting to the ship? I was thinking we could do Palo the night we are scheduled to eat in the one restaurant for the third time, but would like to book in advance.

Also, with it just being the two of us (no kids), would we likely be seated at a table with another couple or group without kids? We chose the second seating for 2 reasons. We have a port intensive cruise and enjoy not being rushed back to the ship to get ready for dinner and I read that there are less children in the second seating and that they are served their entrees with everyone else's appetizers and then taken off to the kids clubs. I know this sounds like I don't like children, but that is not the case. We love children and love spending time with our nephews and young cousins. I'm just trying to avoid the awkwardness that may come from a random couple being seated with a family with small children.

    Thanks for any advice!

  8. I was wondering if anyone has any pics of the inside of the aft-facing ocean view cabins on deck 2 of the Sunshine. I have been able to find shots of the larger wrap-around ocean view cabins but none of the directly aft facing cabins (2348-2353). I am assuming the cabin itself is just like any other ocean view but I am wondering if the outside wall is angled inwards, and if so, does that change the placement of the bed.

  9. I was hoping for Guy's Burgers on Valor for a September 14 cruise we are planning. On the booking site I use to book airline rates there is 14 day gap at the end of July and first sailing in August.

I assumed that was for a dry dock, although it could be a charter or something I guess.

I could care less about the rest of 2.0 upgrades but I love Guy's Burgers.

  10. Just back from the Victory. They are taking bottles from the carryons. When it goes through they tag the bag. The duty free tells you to either bring an extra bag and send it through checked luggage or to cut off the tag. Another option would be to have your travel companion with an near empty bag bigger than the bag with the booze. Let them tag your booze bag and then between the checkpoint and the ship slide the tagged bag inside the non tagged bag. The bags are NOT reinspected so as long as there is no markings visible you will be fine. We put our liquor in our checked bags and had no problems. The duty free is located upstair from the checked bag drop off, so if you want to check it, bring an extra empty bag and extra luggage tag. Check your bags as normal, check in, buy your booze, put in checked bag, walk back downstairs and give bag to porters. You can walk between the checked bag location and the duty free without going through security. Long story short, it is easiest just to purchase booze ahead of time, put in your checked bag and go on your way without messing around with the duty free store. If you insist on buying it at the duty free it can be done using one of the above methods.

Is there a good oportunity to cut the tag off before entering the ship? Maybe a bathroom to duck into? What kind of tag is used...would I need something to cut it with or can it be pulled off?

  11. As some of you may know the Carnival Destiny has been having propulsion issues and will be going in for an unscheduled dry dock in February. She will be back in service on Feb. 20th and in order to fill the time between when she gets back and her next scheduled cruise they are offering a 2 day from Miami to Nassau.

I decided to check out these rates because it is a short cruise and they have less than a month to get it booked up. The price I was quoted for a 1A was $254.81 and a Balcony cabin mid-ship is 374.31 including the single supplement. I am an airline employee so I think that the balcony rate included a discount for that but the 1A is the standard rate for a single.

Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to book it because I am leaving on the Victory on Feb. 28th but I wanted to share this with everyone!!

  12. Hi all!! I just e-mailed Carnival about getting past guest pins for Fascination, Paradise and Fantasy. Based on what I have read here I shouldn't have any problem with Paradise and Fascination but looks like they don't have Fantasy any longer. If anyone has an extra Fantasy pin I would gladly pay for the pin and shipping.

I am also looking for the ship models for the same three ships.

I just started collecting these and am putting them on a shelf with other little things from my cruises (Shot glasses, Conch Shells) and hanging above the shelf is the white T-shirt with all the ships on the back that they sell in the gift shop. I am putting the pins next to their respective ship pictures and "Marking them off" as I go.
