  1. I'm having trouble finding out what you can actually "eat in" at James Hook & Co. We're debating between this place and Belle Isle, which looks pretty darn good. Is there anywhere I can find a list of what you can get at James Hook? TA is not helpful, nor is their web site.

    Starting to drool.

Of course, we could try one place on the way in, and one on the way out, but we dock on a Saturday morning and I suspect that K will just want to get out of Boston as fast as possible.

  2. Thanks, I'm adding these suggestions to the list. I'd never have thought about a grocery store.....and I just love to browse around grocery stores when I travel.

  3. Thank you, that certainly makes sense.

Am I right in thinking that the ships at the Dockyard can also have their casinos open? You can probably tell I'm not a gambler.

Do you happen to know what other services are open onboard?

  4. I'd still like to know how HAL manages to give us 70 hours in port while the others offer considerably less? Does Veendam sail faster, or do the others sail around in circles?

Perhaps it has to do with sharing the piers at the Dockyard?

Oops! Sorry, Sapper, you pretty much answered my question. Looking forward to meeting you on board.

  5. We're sailing on the Veendam next month; we dock at 1:00 pm on Monday and leave at 1:00 pm on Thursday, for a total of about 70 hours in port. The other ships doing seven day run to Bermuda Seem to average about 55 - 58 hours in port.

I'm certainly not complaining, but can anyone tell me where HAL is finding those extra hours? It's nice that we'll have 3 evenings there.

  6. This may be a dumb question, but I'm curious. We're sailing into Hamilton from Boston on Veendam and will be in port from 1:00 pm Monday until 1:00 pm Thursday, for a total of about 70 hours. I'm noticing that all of the other 7 day cruises stop at the Dockyard for somewhere around 51 to 57 hours.

Can someone tell me where HAL is getting the extra hours? Obviously, I'm not complaining, but inquiring minds would like to know.

  7. So much of the information I'm finding is Dockyards based, but we'll be in Hamilton with the Veendam. We're planning to visit the rest of the island, of course, but it would be nicer to know some beaches to go nearby and how to get to them.

I'm looking for pretty beaches that are good for swimming and have some shade available. I don't really care about snorkelling; I'm just looking for some easy places to literally immerse myself in Bermuda's beauty.

  8. I've read a bit about these and

Trip Advisor seems to like them.

I'm in a recuperating phase and am looking for relaxing ways to tour. Can these trips be booked privately, or do I have to go through the cruiseline?

I understand that the two 'trains' are run by different companies? I don't seem to be able to find definitive information from Mr Google.

Any information would be appreciated...how to get tickets, cost, what's involved....

  9. Thanks, that area sounds good. Now if I could get K to stop waffling and actually book something.....

I just realized that we'll have a similar problem after we debark. We'll be heading north toward Freeport and the lobster roll trail. We'd normally stay around Portsmouth, but we try to avoid weekends. We just need a place to repack and regroup. Are there any areas with reasonable weekend rates? ($100 - $150)?

We really don't seem to have thought this out. :o

  10. I realize that not posting a route is making it hard to answer my question. We were thinking of taking a route that would HAVE reasonable accommodations.....so it's a chicken and the egg problem. It would be nice to keep the price at $100 or better.

I'll see if we can narrow down our approach route and post again.

    Thanks for your patience.

  11. We'll be docked in Hamilton and would like to try "Bermuda specialties" at lunchtime.

I've read that there are a number of food trucks. Any ideas about where to find them and what they serve?

Other than Bermuda chowder, what are some suggestions of what to try?

I'm looking for some casual places to sample Bermuda cuisine. I don't want to eat things that I can get in MY Hamilton (I think the idea of a Hamilton to Hamilton trip is kind of fun.)

    I'd appreciate any suggestions.

P.S. I also read that the Lemon Tree does takeout lunches. Is there anywhere else that's handy?

  12. Actually, Boston is our departure port, but I thought I'd ask here, too.

We're looking for a very casual spot to eat seafood the day before departure. We have a car, and we'll be lobster-rolling our way through Maine and New Brunswick after our Bermuda cruise.

Any suggestions? What should we sample besides lobster? I tend to get stuck on that and fish/seafood chowder.

  13. We're sailing out of Boston on the Veendam next month. Can you suggest somewhere to get a good, but very relaxed, seafood fix? We'll have a car, so distance isn't a problem, within reason, but traffic might be.

After the cruise to Bermuda, we'll be doing a "lobster roll" tour of

Maine and New Brunswick on our way to visit family in Fredericton.
