  1. We didn't go there from our cruise. I think it's worth it if you have a couple of days in Oslo. Our day went like this: Bike excursion through the ship, lunch at the ship, exploring on foot in the afternoon. I have some alternate options for those who aren't really into the same things as us, one of which is the ski jump. I'm not sure if it's worth going out there if you only have a handful of hours, but it's definitely something unique that you won't find anywhere else!
  2. Ah, I would have loved to have continued on for another week to see more of Norway! Flam was my favorite port, but the other ones sound really nice, too.
  3. That's good to know! I only added a couple of highlights to my list of additional suggestions but didn't elaborate too deeply because I didn't personally visit them myself. Perhaps I will edit to add the Folk Museum. There isn't any reason why I didn't add it though 🙂
  4. I just returned from sailing the Norwegian fjords with HAL and loved it. We went to Oslo, Kristiansand, Stavanger and Flam (7 day cruise). Flam was our favorite port! Feel free to read my full review here: https://justinpluslauren.com/norwegian-fjords-cruise-nieuw-statendam/
  5. I feel like you could rent a car and drive there on your own. It's a cute little town. I'm not sure there is a ton of things to do in Lillesand, which is why the tour combines the boat trip. I personally feel that there's a lot more to see in Kristiansand than Lillesand. We took the tour where we took a bus to Lillesand and a boat tour.... a word of advice, if it's raining a lot, do NOT take this tour. They won't cancel the tour, and everyone was absolutely soaked - even with umbrellas and rain jackets. It gets cold (at the end of July even!) and everything on the boat was completely soaked in water...we couldn't see much outside of the boat as it was all dreary and rain was coming in. Everyone was pretty miserable over the experience. I couldn't feel my fingers or my feet as my shoes were drenched! I really enjoyed the second half of my afternoon much more where I explored Kristiansand by foot.
  6. We've never had a problem bringing ours as carry-on on the plane. However, they might not be allowed to be brought on the cruise ship. I've heard that they can be confiscated by the cruise line and held in storage for the whole cruise and you'll get it back at the end. I don't think they want people flying them off the ship.
  7. We had a glorious day in Oslo while sailing around Norway aboard HAL's Nieuw Statendam and I'm excited to share everything we did there with you! In the morning, we took a bike tour around some popular sites to see the architecture, parks, and the Vigeland sculpture park. After lunch back on the ship, we headed back out in the afternoon to explore some of Oslo by foot. I've done a very thorough write-up with lots of photos on my blog if you'd like to take a look! >> https://justinpluslauren.com/one-day-in-oslo-norway/ Please feel free to ask me any questions about Oslo, too!!
  8. I'd buy stamps from the port you're in AND mail the postcards while in port. I've mailed postcards through cruise ships before (not HAL, but other cruise lines) and they've never showed up. The safest bet is to throw them into a mailbox in port (with a local stamp on it, not a USA stamp!).
  9. We ate the pizza every day on Nieuw Statendam! I personally really enjoyed the pizza. I get mine made vegan so no cheese and loads of veggies, and it wasn't greasy at all. My experiences might be a little different from those ordering the regular pizzas off the menu. I liked you could get the made fresh to order and I could put whatever toppings I wanted on them. I also personally liked the late night pizza runs we could do and bring the pizza back to our cabin 🙂
  10. Wow that suite is beautiful! I hope that I can someday book one of those!
  11. That's good to know! I can see why that would be difficult if it wasn't lit properly. And thanks for the tip about the Vasa Museum in Stockholm. I'll put that one on my list for when I someday go there!
  12. 😄 That's so nice of you to say! Good to know about the Viking Museum! And I also didn't know that about the buses. I walked everywhere, but I think that I should have used the bus at some point for things that were way too far. Good to know for my eventual return!
