  1. Hi there, This is our first Carnival cruise, our honeymoon, departing from Barbados on 31st Dec- anyone esle out there booked on too? What should we expect on New Years Eve? Do they put on a big party etc? Any more info would be great..:) Mishmac
  2. Hi there, I just wondered can you take your laptop on board and if so is it very expensive and easy enough to connect to a wireless facility? We would like to take it as we use skype which has a webcam facility and as its our honeymoon we are leaving our daughter with her grandparents (up to now anyway!) so would like to see her in case we start pining!!! Thanks so much - we are sailing on the Victory 31st December 08 Mica

    Ocean Village v Carnival ?

Aplmac, thanks for the info and the photos, it helped with our decision. In the end we went for the Carnival - as it's our honeymoon, we went for the bigger livelier option. Plus, having a night in Barbados the night before the cruise departs was also a big positive. May well visit OV in the future if we enjoy the cruise experience. From reading the other threads, you seem to know Barbados well. Any recommendations for a hotel in a good location for our first night? Looking for something within reach of both airport and Port that won't break the bank on transfers, but will still give us a night to remember in Barbados. Cheers
  4. Hi there, Just wondered if anyone else is booked on the Victory leaving Barbados Dec 31st 08? Does anyone know what, if any, 'events' are planned for New Years Eve? - we are very excited as its our honeymoon too! Michelle
  5. Hi there, Well we finally made our choice and we have booked on the Carnival Victory 31st Dec for our Honeymoon! Unfortunatley they only had an inside cabin available so fingers crossed for an upgrade!! Coming from the UK we need to stay in Barbados overnight before the cruise- can anyone recommend a nice hotel near to the port? Thanks Michelle

    Ocean Village v Carnival ?

Cheers for the info SC. The Carnival doesn't include flights but even with the flights extra, there isn't much in it. With Carnival, I know we'd need a hotel stay before we sail, as we'd have to fly the day before. Also transfers etc. It's more the hidden costs on board and the excursion costs that will make a big difference. For example, are the waiter restaurants on the OV expensive and how do drinks and excursion prices compare? The destinations are similar, so what we need is good food and drink, a good atmosphere and a good New Year Party. We'll also be trying to do as much as possible when ashore, so we'll be doing a few excursions.

    Carnival v Ocean Village ?

Thanks for the info. Ocean Village is a European company, the ship is alot more basic than Carnival and it is very informal. Monkeys and Mangos is the name they give the route, Barbados and 5 other places in the area.
  8. Hi We have never cruised before and are planning to go on a week's cruise this new year for our honeymoon. Due to wedding dates, travelling and work, we only really have 2 options, Ocean Village Mangos and Monkeys or Carnival. Both have similar itineraries, starting and finishing in Barbados, and prices approx the same. We are in our mid 30s, and are child free for this one week only! What info can you give us re the service / entertainment / facilities on board. A comparison as to the price of excursions and drinks would also be helpful, as it could make a huge difference by the end of the trip. The ships seem to be chalk and cheese - Carnival seems to be more luxurious, but will we experience a better atmosphere on Ocean Village? Atmosphere is important, as we will be on the ship at New Year. Quality of food and drink is also a factor. Cheers.
