  1. That is an understatement ๐Ÿ˜€ We will be cruising on the Douro on the Viking later this month into early Oct. and will be happy to report our experience.
  2. I guess you are not considered to be a Torontonian
  3. It used to be a small town but not anymore ๐Ÿ˜€
  4. Great pictures - thanks. She looks better than I thought she would, though it will take me some time to get used to the new look. ๐Ÿ™‚ You must have been the first one on - the ship looks completely empty in most pictures.
  5. To be more accurate - shorts and most jeans are not allowed in the MDR and specialties at night - they are perfectly OK in the MDR during the day and also at night in the Terrace Cafe. The smaller ships have the same exact rules.
  6. I find that to be true (and strange) as well. You would think that you would recognize most people on the roll call from the O forum but that is not the case for majority. It's like O forum & roll call live in parallel universes ๐Ÿ™‚
  7. That it is - currently at around A$1600+/night - unless you get it free like we did a few years ago. At that time Chase had an offer on their Hyatt credit card. Open the card - no spending requirement and you get 2 free nights at any Hyatt in the world. We both got the card and had 3 night at that great property for free. Ahhhh - the good old days - how I miss them ๐Ÿ˜€
  8. I agree with that sentiment to a degree. We are often away from home for extended periods of time, although never for 6 months. Because of that I too have to make occasional "arrangements" online while away - renew medications so they will be there when I get home, pay bills, book award flights when they first open, check emails to make sure nothing "catastrophic" is going on at home or with bank accounts/credit cards, make urgent phone calls using wifi, etc, etc. That said, the internet on Oceania has always been adequate for these functions. I can see where it would not be sufficient for Facebook or face time or downloading 50 pictures but we never use it for those purposes so it works fine for us. We have experienced better internet on some other lines (Crystal & Viking Ocean, for example) but what O has, suffices for us. As always, YMMV
  9. For Sydney your friend might want to look at either Holiday Inn Old Sydney (in the Rocks area)or HI Darling Harbour or Marriott Circular Quay - all well located and reasonable for Sydney.
  10. Obviously your memory is much better than mine ๐Ÿ™‚
  11. I obviously missed that part. How did you know David was referring to that particular Riviera TA cruise?
  12. If you can find the same or similar itinerary in the near future, you can see the actual tours and prices for those ports. There is no question that private tours with smaller groups and customized itinerary are preferred to ship's tours by most people. Sometimes those are not easy to find in some ports or sometimes you cannot get the 6 or 8 people to join you. I am looking for people to join me on some very common tours (Seville out of Cadiz & Santiago de Compostela out of La Coruna) and haven't found a single soul as yet ๐Ÿ˜ฅ
  13. He can use hyperbole but only if he uses the proper hyperbole emoji (whatever that is) ๐Ÿ˜€
  14. David - this is a verbatim quote from you. Do you maintain that this is a fact or just your impression of activities on your cruise? Did you really expect people to believe that the ONLY activity on the entire TA was baggo and not question you on this? Your cruise might have been a little different from others and you might not have liked the CD but even though I was not on that cruise I am absolutely positive that there were multiple other activities offered in addition to baggo.
  15. That makes sense but obviously this is a unique circumstance - would not apply to most. Enjoy - youโ€™ve earned it!
  16. Thatโ€™s just it - most people on mass market lines arrange their own flights (even some O cruisers do) - so lots of people would be caught in this mess of having to buy last minute high priced flights home (if they can even get them in these days of fully booked flights). What a mess! Hopefully they have insurance.
  17. Thatโ€™s all good for those onboard but how do the cruise lines handle getting those people home 2 days later - who pays for the new flights? Likewise, how do they compensate those that should have been on the ship 2 days ago?
  18. That is the whole point of this thread - lack of participation on roll calls and interest in sharing private tours. Most of us agree that smaller private tours are preferable to shipโ€™s tours - generally speaking - but only if one can find enough people to share the cost as otherwise private tours can be very expensive. I have booked 2 private tours with Spain Day tours that have a minimum of 10 people required to operate and nobody has joined me so far. If that doesnโ€™t change - no private tour for me ๐Ÿ˜ช Good luck on your roll call.
  19. ..and the passengers - both disembarking and embarking ๐Ÿ˜Š Just out of curiosity - does the cruise line cover oneโ€™s expenses (flights, hotels) in such a situations?
  20. I donโ€™t think itโ€™s a good idea to have your 20th as part of a long 39 day cruise - see my post #29 above. The definite answer will come from the O ambassador on your next cruise. Good luck.
  21. Frances, I agree that roll calls are not what they used to be most of the time. Granted, our cruise is not till May but we just started page 2 and have fewer than 10 posters (the OP cancelled the cruise) and no tours have been organized. Maybe O Life is part of this.
  22. Now you have to become a linguist specializing in foreign accents and try to guess the origin of the staff member based on their accents ๐Ÿ˜€ Maybe they can give Big O points for guessing right - 3 points for guessing right on first try, 2 for second try and 1 point for third try (three tries and you're out) ๐Ÿ™‚
  23. Exactly - our "free" was 21 days because we we liked the itinerary and thus we paid for 7 days. Despite that, it did not count as a credited cruise even though a stand alone 7 day paid cruise would. Hence, it is not advisable to make one's 20th a very long cruise.
  24. I am not certain as that is not what I have done - my 20th was a stand alone cruise of 1 credit only (as Lyn has suggested to do). I am guessing here that if your 20th cruise will be part of a longer voyage - like 39 days - you will get 14 days free and pay for 25 days? I would not do that as you will not get credit for those cruises that otherwise would give you 3 cruise credits (even though you paid for part of it) . Best to choose your free cruise very carefully - 14 days (or a little longer) and make it a more expensive one (like Asia, Australia) rather than a cheaper one (like Carib or TA). It does take some planning as O does not like to be very flexible about this (that said, as ORV indicated, on occasion they might make exceptions but why force the issue)
