If you have shingles, direct contact with the fluid from your rash blisters can spread VZV to "people who have never had chickenpox or never received the chickenpox vaccine. If they get infected, they will develop chickenpox, not shingles. They could then develop shingles later in life."

Thank you for adding that further detail.

My neighbor and her family all caught Covid. A month later she had the shingles. The shingles was worse than the Covid she told me. Excruciating pain, apparently.

All true but the important difference is that shingles are not deadly - COVID, OTOH,  has been deadly to millions of people all over the world.

    Best not to get either.

Our Deacon, who was unable to preach yesterday because he has shingles, would be glad to hear that.

Well, he may have it but he didn't catch it:

Shingles is caused by the varicella-zoster virus — the same virus that causes chickenpox. After you've had chickenpox, the virus lies inactive in nerve tissue near your spinal cord and brain. Years later, the virus may reactivate as shingles.

I feel sorry for him as shingles can be very painful.

I am much more concerned with catching shingles

Good news - you have one less thing to worry about as one does not "catch shingles" 😀

Everyone behaving as you did without vaccination is playing Russian roulette. Lots of people are getting COVID with 70,000 new cases every single day.

I’m fully vaccinated also. However, I’d like to see some actual statistical evidence on the actual need and timeline for the booster. I’d particularly like to see it come from a third party with no monetary stake in the report. For me, it’s just a bit too convenient for the pharmaceuticals to be so quickly announcing that we need to continue spending billions more for their products into perpetuity.

This is not coming out of thin air. Our current vaccines are quite effective against the original and the UK strain, However, they are less effective against the S African and maybe Brazilian ones - hence the need for a booster (with protection against those strains).

Likewise, don't we get flu shots annually?

As usual Paul, you do not know what I did for mine. I also paid her because I felt those wages were important. I am a nice woman and it may be time you realized that. However, she has a choice to get vaccinated and I have a choice to protect our health in our home.

I hope you can convince yours to get the vaccine. What will you do if they do not?

I also will not take a cruise unless all are fully vaccinated. My own daughter had Covid and has immunity now. She does not want the vaccine and if it comes to push come to shove, she also will not be in our home. Tough love, but Mom plans on living a long and healthy life.

If you paid her despite no service then it's good on you.

However, none of your postings on this subject indicate this.

I never said or implied that you are not a good person - we just have major political point of view differences.

She came this morning and I asked her if she got the vaccine. I told her we pay her a lot of money and our health is very important. I also said I am sure I can find someone to work here for $35 an hour. She told me that she will not get it and I can look for someone else. Today will be her last day!

We found a different solution to the same issue.

We have used the same cleaning company (Latinas) for over 30 years with great satisfaction. With Covid we decided to stay home and keep others away as well.

We offered them 50%  of their regular fee without service.

    Why? Because

    1)  Covid was not of their doing

    2)  Most of the women had children and families that relied on their income

    3)  The amount we have paid over the last year had zero impact on our lives but I suspect it made some difference to them.

    4)  They need that money more than we do.

When things "normalize" we will resume services as before.

    Win/win

    As always, YMMV

FDR has already stated in the cruising resumption plan he filed with the CDC last week that all NCLH adult passengers and crew will have to be vaccinated.

Do you really think that will deter the antivaxers from claiming discrimination and being denied their personal freedom?

We see it happening all over the country in certain areas.

Will FDR have legal standing in denying them boarding?

Oceania along with several other lines have said their passengers and crew will be fully vaccinated!!!!

I don’t think O is willing to open itself to lawsuits by those who are not vaccinated but wish to cruise.

As we know, they will claim discrimination and limiting their free choice and personal liberties.

Curious why you put "awards" there. J isn't limited to awards.

I believe that J (and U) are award categories (with AA anyway). Full fare or discounted business class tickets fall into different buckets.

Below are award ticket buckets only - not paid tickets . This is from ExpertFlyer:

    https://www.expertflyer.com/sessionlessClassList.do

American Airlines (AA) F First - AAnytime Award (for 3-cabin flights only)
Z First - MileSAAver Award (for 3-cabin flights only)
A First - upgrade using Miles/SWU or restricted purchase of First class on 3-cabin flights only
J Business - AAnytime Award (Including 2-cabin Domestic First)
U Business - MileSAAver Award (Including 2-cabin Domestic First)
C Business - Upgrade from Coach using Miles/SWU. Includes 2-Cabin First domestic upgrades
W Premium Economy - AAnytime Award
X Premium Economy - MileSAAver Award
      Y Coach - AAnytime Award
E Coach - Employee Travel and Confirmed Flight Changes
      T

    Coach - MileSAAver Award

Sorry have to ask, as an European just gone thru thus thread again but for the life of me can’t work out the J or even F on Japan Airlines (JL). I guess it could be premium economy or business or possibly preferred seat numbers. As this seems to be quite clear for Americans, please enlighten me.

    Rosalyn

J is one of the classification buckets for business class tickets (awards); F stands for First class.

Some airlines (UA) classify business awards as I but J is still a universal term for frequent flyers to indicate business class.

Maybe they can attach it to our voter ID card.

Do you have one of those and is it required for you to vote?

I ask because I don’t have one and I have no trouble voting as I am a registered voter.

Fiji Airlines has a SFO - SYD via Fiji for a lower rate than most for February. Has anyone had experience with them?

No flat lie-down seats in business class - a deal breaker for me.
