  1. I too am enjoying your review Jonathan. We have sailed Explorer 4X - the last being this past NYE. We also love the GS! Please take advantage of breakfast in Portofino's - such a nice experience.

Sorry to hear Erky is on vacation. We actually had dinner next to him and his fiancé in Portofino's one night. Really nice couple. He and Leigh make quite a team!

May I ask, If you have dinner in Portofino's - could you seek out Alex? We have had dinner in Portofino's many many times over our 4 trips and he remembered us! When we left he gave me his e mail address however I either am not reading his handwriting well or doing something wrong as my "mail" keeps getting returned undeliverable.

If he remembers "Cheryl & Ron" from NYE cruise - (we ate with him 3X) Id love to get in touch with him. Should he be willing Ill forward my e mail to you. I know its asking a lot but I really would love to reach out to him.

In any event, if you have dinner in Portofino - ask for Alex - he will treat you very well!

We had Alex in December he was great. Very nice and friendly.

  2. @relic937 Lol.....it was a joke. I would never do that I have more class and I follow the rules. But that will be the next problem. Oh by the way I choose to cruise on Royal. I guess I'm loyal. Smoking or not.

  3. I smoke and now I have to leave my comfortable cabin and balcony to go smoke a ecig. Now the new complaint will be that people are walking around the ship in pajamas and nightgowns to go smoke? Can someone say Pajama party? And the funky cheap perfume has to go. The next new rule.....

  5. I hope I never meet you on a cruise.....when you refer to your fellow cruisers as 'pigs' when you say ' .......that's fine to me to help keep the total cruise cost low by feeding the pigs their feed.'

How disgusting. The cabins you WON'T be in can easily be filled by someone much more civilized.

Apparently this person does not know any better than to attempt to insult Americans. We will be enjoying our cruises and the Windjammer if we choose.

  6. Quite the tirade.

I would like to offer you a word of caution. I would be very, very careful about your actions. If you are going to confront and harass a fellow cruiser about their alleged smoking, or harangue a steward or other hotel staff into doing it for you, I would be very, very sure of their guilt before doing so. Unless you actually visually see the person smoking, you cannot know that the smoke is coming from the balcony directly beside you. Smoke drifts. It could be from several cabins down or even above you. When a ship is sailing at 20+ knots, there is no telling where that smoke could be coming from.

If I had someone banging on my cabin door waking me at 2 in the morning and some wild woman having a fit at me (or a steward doing it for her) you can absolutely bet that I would be calling security and demanding that SHE be the one thrown off the ship. So put that in your pipe and smoke it.

    Cheers. .....

  7. Look, I am glad it has worked that way for you but it has not worked that way for me and others I know. They should be in the business of accommodating passengers but they do not always.

It is heartening to hear that thing this continues. Corporate received many complaints in December about the issues already discussed and about leaving people standing outside for 20-30 minutes in freezing temps waiting for non-existent shuttles. I actually got a very concerned response from corporate so perhaps the Explorer guest relations staff has been instructed to clean up their act. BTW, I did not ask for, nor was I looking for or received any compensation. I just want the problem cleared up for the future.

    @allentownboy

I was not speaking of you personally when I made that statement. It was generic. I was speaking from my past experience on how I was able to change tags. I'm glad you got some satisfaction from Royal.

  8. This has been an ongoing problem this season with disembarkation. They are not calling the numbers in the same order in different lounges, if you are meeting a bus that is not through Royal they do not care when you need to be off the ship, though apparently even the sanctioned buses have problems as Carol posted.

Also, it is not true that you can just go to guest relations and ask for a different number luggage tag. I have tried it as recently as for Dec. 12 disembarkation and tons of other people have tried it. They do not do it. If someone has been able to get a change that is the exception, not the rule so please do not expect that this will not be the problem.

I love sailing the Explorer but I hate how they handle disembarkation.

I won't say if it's a rule or not. And that they do not do it. They are in the business to accommodate passengers if they didn't they would be out of business. But they will accommodate request made in a timely manner. They will change your color it you have a issue with it causing a conflict with other connecting transportation. We have done it on several occasions when members of my group have had different colors and are using the same transportation. For instance that would mean if I get off the ship at 9 am I would have to wait until 10 am for gold. We come as a group we leave as one also. Just speaking from my personal experience with Royal and Cape Liberty.

  9. Sometimes you have to realize that there may be problems behind the scenes. And we are not aware of what's going on. Most of my embarking and disembarking at Cape Liberty has gone smoothly. Your response to the issue depends on what side of the fence your on. Getting off your agitated- vacation over. Getting on not a care in the world- vacation starting. When we embarked on the 22nd we were wondering what the hold up was on the ship but really didn't care because we were getting on. Ship happens. :)
