We are on the Eurodam right now.  We put a 12 pack of water in a small roll on, and checked it at the port.  It got to the room, with no problems or leaks.

Do you have any pricing information on the internet?  A few in our traveling party have to do some work while on the ship.

What is all aboard in the ports?  60 or 30 minutes prior to departure?

Is the ship staying on ship time or local time?

    Thank you so much,

    Jen

  2. I have been on many cruises and two out of San Diego (none on HAL though) and always checked water flats and soda cartons in as luggage.  We have never had drinks burst or leak when checking them intact in the flat or carton.  I can accept if HAL does not allow it we will need to take the flat apart and put some in the carry on luggage.

    Thanks,

    Jen

  3. It was very crowded, long lines to debark and long lines for customs/immigration. I am sure it was at least an hour. Add on top the problem that numbers were called late it was not quick. PC at Oasis is very badly run. The wait to get a car rental shuttle took 45 minutes due to port staff not letting the shuttles in more than 1 or 2 at a time. My shuttle driver said it is like that every week and frustrating for drivers and guests. When I came back with the car many drivers, including me, were yelled at by staff. It was easily the worst experience of any port and debarkation.

If you have cruised on Oasis before, how many hours did the debarkation take for you? I want to hear various experiences and accounts of that process to have a rough handle on what to expect - good or bad. We are going on a 7-day trip on Oasis next month. Thanks.
  4. Oasis was not smoky at all. Actually, I thought it was the least smoky ship I have been on.

A friend just got off Oasis and said there was lots of smoking...especially by the pool. What are the smoking rules on Oasis? Is there usually lots of smoking? Hoping not on the April 2 since it's spring break for many families...
  5. If there is a parking lot in walking distance use that. Oasis at PC is the worst run port I have ever witnessed. Avoid a shuttle if at all possible.

Thanks for the great review! We will sail on the Oasis during the Thanksgiving holiday. We are driving in and plan to park right at the port...we are wondering if traffic getting in and out of the port in our car will be a nightmare? We aren't fond of shuttles, and your experiences kind of confirm that. We haven't been to Port Canaveral since the Oasis arrived - our prior experiences have been great there.

I'm glad to hear that the ship didn't feel crowded during the cruise! Thanks again, I enjoyed your review.

  6. The speed was normally very good. We had occasional problems with the internet and sometimes it would stop working altogether. However, compared to past experiences with internet at sea, this was the best by far.

I'd be interested in seeing the drinks package information if you don't mind posting it. I'm also curious about the apparent speed when using VOOM. Did you experience any delays or signal drops?

We are sailing on Oasis next Feb.

  7. It must vary by cruise. We cruised in January and there were a good number of people out and about in different venues later than you experienced.

I guess it depends on what you mean by nightlife... I sailed Feb 5-12 and there was nothing going on after 11-11:30. Things were open and available but there would be 5-6 people in each of the bars, nobody in the club, we saw the same 8 people after 11 and that was it. I kept saying where the heck are the 6,000+ people on this ship after 11pm!! For us, on holiday as a couple looking to relax, that was ok. If I was travelling with my best friend (which I do once a year), it would have been more of an issue. There is lots to do on this ship, and there is entertainment every night that runs until 11ish, which we thought was wonderful! There was not a lot of music at the pool, they sometimes had a band that played that was good, and there were no deck parties or anything that I saw (but maybe I missed it). If you are used to sailing Carnival, this will be different.
  8. Room service between certain hours has a charge. midnight to 5 AM???

I didn't see a cupcake shop on Oasis.

    Don't forget shopping at Tiffany's!!!!

    Hi There!

We went on the Allure of the seas 6 years ago and are thinking of booking the Oasis with some friends. I want to give them a clear picture of cost, but I can't remember all of the little extras because it was so long ago.

If we purchase the beverage package and the dining package...what other extras would we have to pay for (excluding travel insurance and costs while at port) ? Here's what I've come up with..

    Gratuities

    Specialty coffee

    Ice Cream Parlor

Cupcake shop (I think there was one on the Allure)

    Arcade

    Internet package

    Photos

What else am I missing? I don't want them to show up and be disappointed with a lot of extra costs I didn't tell them about. Thanks so much!

  9. First I love musicals. I liked Cats when I saw it in my youth in LA. I thought the performance on Oasis was FANTASTIC. It is 100% professional Broadway quality. The singing was fantastic. We sat in about the 3rd row on the right. The actors come in to the audience and they got very close to us several times. There were 6 in our group that night. One left at intermission (80 yo male) and the rest of us stayed to the end. The rest of us loved it, even the 18 yo male enjoyed it!

It's not heavy on plot and that is fine, I have seen other plays light on plot.

As for seeing them performers at other venues, those were really popular on our cruise. We could never get in as they were totally packed. That is a problem on Oasis, some venues are really small even for a normal sized ship, forget about one with that many passengers.

I think it depends on your age and gender for CATS. I am a musical lover..have seen tons thru the years.

First of all the production on Oasis is excellent..IMHO

I first saw CATS 30+ years ago at the Shubert in LA, I really didn't care for it because I was young and simply did not know the story line as the play is not easy to follow.

So first of all read up on the musical so you can follow it and it will be much more enjoyable.

So when we went on Oasis last Sept, I though Oh no...remembering my past experience...but it's included so might as well check it out.. Yes, it is true at the 2 performances I saw on my sailing on Oasis half the audience leaves at intermission....mostly men...just sayin'..... my DH sat thru the first performance but I saw the other alone...

Of course I knew the story line 30years plus later but my life experiences and older age really added to my enjoyment.

Did you know the actors that are selected for CATS need to be approved by "Webber's office" and they have a 6 month contract. Yes, they are all Broadway quality and it shows!!!!!!

Watching their bodies slink around the stage and costumes plus makeup is worth seeing the performance.

  10. Alamo has moved and is at 710 Mullet now.

    as requested

    PCcarrentals_zps2e118088.jpg

the furthest is less than 2 miles away

    all run shuttles

you want your rental location to be CAPE CANAVERAL or COCOA BEACH (Port Canaveral is not a 'city' and does not come up as a rental location)

  11. We used Avis and it was not difficult. We dropped the luggage and 4 of our group off at the port. However, when we got to Avis they were only running one shuttle (they said earlier in the day they run 2). The shuttle that was leaving had people with so much luggage that we could not fit. We estimated it would be at least 30 minutes before it dropped at both ships and got back so we decided to Uber back to the ship. I have Avis preferred so walked right to my car so it was quick in Orlando but the office is far from the port in PC.

If I had it all to do again I would rent from Alamo and drop the luggage off and most or all of my group at the port and then return the car. Alamo is in walking distance so if there is no shuttle leaving soon you can just walk to the port.

  12. We were on the Oasis in January. We found the beds very hard. It took 2 toppers to make it tolerable.

I've been on several RCCL cruises. I always thought the beds were so comfy. We went on Freedom in June and discovered our bed was hard as a rock. Our kids were lucky and had the toppers on their beds. Our steward told us they were getting rid of all of them. He hinted that they would be replacing the beds with something at some point. A co-worker went on Freedom for Thanksgiving. She said the beds were horrible.

So my question is, are the beds bad across the board now? We are booked on Oasis for 2018. So I know anything can change between now and then but still.

  13. On Oasis there were the same 2 comedians for the entire week. In the comedy club the 2 comedians performed what we were told was essentially the same show each night, they each do a set during the same show. On the final night the 2 comedians performed in the big show room. That show was different. You need to book 1 show in the comedy club and attend the show in the main show room.

I see that now. Someone posted the entertainment sheet. The amber theater is probably the clean stuff.

Still not sure how to plan the comedians. Even if there are 2 do they do the same set all week? Even if they do how do I know if I pick 2 time of 2 days that I even booking different comedian?

  14.

We didn’t have a show or anything booked for the night so we just walked around a few of the bars, it was pretty quiet but we figured it was the first night everyone was tired and called it an early night. This quickly became the theme of the cruise. After 11pm, there was nobody out. It was the quietest cruise ever!!!!!!! Now this is kind of an advantage and a disadvantage. The advantage was there was always a lounger by the pool, rarely a line up for a drink, plenty of seats in any bar on any night, you can zipline and rock climb or flow ride whenever you want! Disadvantage there was literally no nightlife, honestly by 11:30 there was usually us and maybe one or 2 other couples in the bar (any bar). I was a bit disappointed because there were so many options and bars that could have been crazy good!! I was told that sailing out of Port Canaveral it would be kind of an older vibe so I was not expecting a party ship, but with 6,000+ people I was expecting somewhere in between? From talking to others on the ship (and those working on the ship) it was a rocking place when it left from Fort Lauderdale. Anyways, I was there to relax, so it was ok. We did really enjoy the shows so we looked forward to those after dinner!

My cruise in January was different. There were people in the bars and clubs until late. Our cruise seemed to have a good number of young people but not many kids.

  15.

We returned the car and waited for the shuttle. Shuttle comes and the driver takes everyone except for us and another couple who are going on the Oasis because he says there is no way we will get through the traffic, there is a second shuttle that is picking up people coming off the Oasis, he will take us. Ok, we will be patient. Next shuttle comes, he drops off and leaves to go back to Oasis, he can’t take us either it will be too long. Another shuttle comes, you guessed it, there is no way they are taking us to Oasis, it is too busy. A shuttle comes again, he leaves empty to pick up more people. At this point it has been an hour and 4 shuttles who won’t take us, we are getting a little annoyed. Shuttle comes back again, he finally agrees to take us to where he is picking up people and we can walk over to the side where we can board, sounds good. So, we finally get on a shuttle and where he is picking people up is literally right next to where you would board, I am not sure why he didn’t just do that to begin with. Maybe they can get in trouble for doing that??..

I have never in my life seen anything as badly run as the port for Oasis. Leaving Oasis it took 45 minutes for the shuttle to get from its place in the line up to where it could drop and pick up passengers. I watched this nuttiness with my own eyes. The port staff let 1 shuttle in at a time, sometimes 2. They unload and then drive a few feet and load. Repeat. I talked to the shuttle driver and she said it is like that every week, it is miserable for the drivers and the passengers. When I returned with my rental car to pick up the rest of my party, I was yelled at by a port worker because I drove where he did not want me to drive. I was following the sign for pick up and he did not like it. He yelled at several people trying to navigate the pick up/drop off zone.

I can see why the drivers did not want to take you to the Oasis!

Alamo is walking distance, so rent from them and just walk.

  16. Yes, you need to take a notarized letter like the one on the CBP web site. Why risk it? You may not need it but you may. We had one for a cruise that ended in Canada. On entering Canada, we were not asked for the letter but the people next to us were. I do not know what happened as it was going on for a long time with Canadian BP.

  17. We were on the Oasis 1/8/17-1/15/17. I ate at WJ 5 times and every time there were 3 kinds of omelettes to chooses from. They were located at the egg station where the burgers are at lunch time. The choices were Swiss, ham and Swiss and veggies with Swiss. They were very good and fresh and they turned over frequently. I had asked about omelettes on the Oasis before my cruise and was told not at the WJ, so maybe this is new. They were popular.

No, in the MDR they did not make the omelette in front of you, but it does not matter to me. I ate 2 omelettes in MDR and you pick your ingredients and they were good.

Glad I did not go to JR, it was very close to my cabin but I had heard bad things about breakfast there.....

Three oasis and one Allure trip and yes there was an omelette on the mdr menu but not where you actually see it get made. four visits to wj in those trips and never saw a single omelette. Others at breakfast with us even says the same thing. Guess we just missed the days they choose to do them. The omelette in Johnny Rockets was horrible- ok if you like cake eggs and cheese you're good to go, otherwise we did not like JR for breakfast at all

  18. I did a similar excursion with Celebrity and it was worth it to me. We did an air boat ride with a visit to the gator place featured on Gator Boys.

was wondering if anyone has done the post excursion with mariner of the seas that takes you for the tour of the everglades and then to the fort Lauderdale airport? If so is it worth the price and how long is the tour thanks:)
  19. They will make omelettes in the MDR as well. The 3 omelette types in WJ were actually very good and always fresh as there is a constant turnover.

    The MDR hours vary daily.

The menu is normal breakfast stuff plus they have a buffet set up. It is basically a smaller version of the WJ.

You can ask to sit alone and if there is a table you will be seated alone or you can wait.

We ate there 2 times and it was under an hour each time. If you do the buffet it is as fast as you want it to be.

Also an often overlooked option is the only place to get made to order omelettes is the wipeout cafe [emoji4]
