  1. We just got off the Grandeur today and it was changed to the 18+. I did notice that a lifeguard did ask two girls to leave the Solarium, they did look young. They left with no problem. Another lifeguard did talk to a mother and her daughter, they didn’t leave. I am going to assume she was 18, from a distance she did look young.

Although my first cruise in 1980 was on Sitmar, the cost included RT airfare and hotel the night before cruise? Was Royal the same?

I cruised on the Sun Viking in 1983 with two girlfriends in an inside cabin. Our cruise started in Miami and ended in Barbados. We flew to Miami on the day of the cruise and flew back from Barbados to Miami and stayed overnight in Miami. If I remember correctly we paid one price for everything and included the transfers. I wish I could remember the price we each paid.

When I look in my planner online, it says i can check in on June 8th for a July 23rd cruise. In the app, it says "app check-in opens 90 days before your cruise", so which one is it?

On all our cruises it has been at 45 day mark to check in.

No lobster tail on cruises less than 7 nights.

On our upcoming 7 night cruise, my husband will order two entrees and give me his lobster tail.  I don't care how large or small they are.  It is what it is.

No way would I ask a table mate to order me a lobster tail.

On our 2/6 Adventure cruise, I could not order a plain house salad.  Waiter told me it wasn't on the menu. Only caesar salad was listed.  I ordered 2 shrimp cocktails and had to finish one before the 2nd one was brought to the table and not immediately after, I might add.  Doesn't this make more work for the waiter?

We were on a 6 night Odyssey February 5th and they had lobster night. I was surprised that they offered it.

We are leaving on Odyssey for 6 nights Saturday, and last week there were tails on the dinner menu one night.  I looked today, and they are gone off the menu, but there is an option to purchase a main tail.

I have a feeling  they are only serving lobster (free one) on 7 night cruises  or longer.

Does anyone know what day the second formal night is on a 6 night cruise? Definately want to try the new "Royal Night"  menu and have Izumi scheduled for the 4th night...thought that would be safe. If anyone has sailed Odyssey and knows please post! The app still shows the old menu. Thanks!

In the app for the January 22-28 cruise there isn’t a “Royal Night” listed.

Ordinarily I would agree with you all, however, it's my husband's 60th.  The entire family is cruising, I just thought it would be nice to surprise him with a birthday cake and song.  He'll probably kill me afterwards, lol, jk.

You might want to make sure they don’t bring the cake to your cabin the first day. When you first get on the ship go to the dining room and talk to the dining room manager or whoever is at the podium and let them know. They should be able to work with you. Normally when they do the birthday in the dining room they only bring the person celebrating their birthday a piece of cake.

I like your strategic idea here and will try that later this month.

I don’t know why after 10 cruises I am such a dufuss, but I seem to always need to relearn the cell phone rules.  You have any tricks/tips for that.  Example, in San Juan and St Thomas, being US, I think I can use my cell phone at no extra charges?  Not sure if this includes texting.

    Eddie

This will depend on your plan. In St. Thomas or San Juan I have never had additional charges with my plan.

  9. When I started cruising with Royal Caribbean there wasn’t a loyalty program. When we reached Diamond there wasn’t access to the Concierge Lounge, it was only for suites (we didn’t even know there was a lounge for suites). We enjoy the voucher system and will still stop in the Diamond Lounge to check out the appetizers. There have been many changes over years, but still very happy to cruise.

Apparently there are SIX different MDR menus. The others represent French, Italian, American, Caribbean, Mexican, nights. This is the 6th one, perhaps?

The new menus remind me of when I first started cruising. Every night was a theme night, French, Italian, Caribbean, Captain’s dinner, etc. I may be one of few who is looking forward to the new menus.

Thanks… that’s exactly what I was thinking. My last RC cruise was actually 2004 on the Serenade. I had the best chocolate flourless cake on that cruise…is that still around?

The flourless chocolate cake was the best. It has been off the menu quite a few years, probably at least 10 years. I am hoping one day they will bring it back.
