  1. we were on the Breakaway last year and loved the Haven pool. We used it daily. My Granddaughter turned two on the cruise so the lounge area was perfect for her. We also took her into the "big" pool, which yes is small, but not bad when a couple of children came in and a family of three came in afterwards.

The regular children's pool on the top deck was out of order almost the entire cruise... I think it was open one day, but was SO crowded... we liked the privacy of the Haven :D

  2. Sorry if this has been asked.. i searched but didn't come up with an answer. my question is, where are the muster drill stations?

our family is spread out on the Breakaway.. some on deck 13, I'm on 12, three cabins are on deck 11 and some on deck 5. I know they have different locations for each deck, but I'm just wondering if I'll be by myself and separated from my family???

Also, I have slight claustrophobia (I'm fine as long as nothing is right in front of me) & I usually tell the staff so they don't shove me in the back of a line. when I was on our Disney cruise, another staff member tried to move me and put tons of people around me... the first staff member remembered and said "NO, she stays up front!!! don't block her in!!"

On Carnival, I had my mother in a wheelchair, so they just checked us in and let us stay in the lobby area near the elevators.

    Thanks for your help :D

  3. The Comfort Inn at 548 W.48th St. is located between 10th and 11th Aves. It's a stone's throw from Pier 88 (48th St. and 12th Ave) where the Breakaway docks. The hotel does not have a parking lot or garage.

48 th and 12 th ave is where the ncl ships debark

Which if course is the west side

Not sure where the actual number you posted would be located though

Could be anywhere from 8 th ave to 12 th

Someone here is sure to chime in though

    Or just call the hotel

As you know this part of NYC is one big north/south east/west square grid. So pretty easy to navigate

yeah, I checked the directions and it shows something like .25 miles from the Comfort Inn to the terminal.. but I have no idea how long that will actually take to drive over to it:D I'm thinking only a few minutes, but it's NYC!!!

  4. Either save your money and just leave at 6am and drive

    Or

If you really want to leave the day before just stay in Westchester and get a nice lower priced hotel on route 119 with an indoor pool and great restaurants with a 3 mile radius....heck come into white plains and see what all the fuss is about ....it's a mini manhattan north....and incredible!!!!

If for some reason you still want NYC....seriously....just book a room and put the car in any lot nearby...there is no saving money in that scenario....but a lot more headaches. Lol

WOW Luvtheships!! I just checked out the Westchester area!!! those prices are way lower!! I'm going to find out where my son-in-law stays and go from there! thanks so much for those suggestions!

  5. I assume this is a comfort in in NYC correct?

The reason for this is that you want to stay in NYC the night before?

    Ok sounds reasonable and fun

Btw.....no need to try and find a parking spot....they just don't exist....

You will be parking in a parking garage and paying what they want you to pay

Call the hotel and ask where the nearest lot is and then on Sunday morning just drive to the terminal as you aren't parking there on Saturday no matter how much you might like to. Lol

thanks Luvtheships! yeah, there is a Comfort Inn that I'm looking into ( 548 West 48th Street), how close is that to the terminal? and yes, when I say "parking spot", I actually meant in a parking garage/lot. That's what I love about these boards...someone will be able to help answer all of my questions. ink48 was also suggested.. the dates I need aren't available but I'll call the hotel directly.

We figured if we stay overnight and just go to the terminal between 9am-10am, we'd avoid having to get up really early and on the road by 6am and stress over traffic, weather or anything else that could put a wrench in our vacation. If we're down there in NYC the day/night before, we'd be able to relax a little bit and actually start our vacation early! :)

I'm still going to look into your suggestions about Tarry Town/westchester area too. My son-in-law knows that area when he has to go down there for business trips.

  6. You won't be able to park at the cruise terminal the day before. The parking lot is only open on cruise days.

If you park at a garage near your hotel it can easily cost you $50 or more for the day.

ok, then there goes that idea... thanks!! we'll look for other parking then. I appreciate the help :) rwslv suggested another hotel that I'm going to also look into!

  7. We stay ay Ink48 which is a Kimpton Hotel. The hotel is amazing and we can literally watch our ship come in. Also, the bellman will take your luggage etc. on a bell cart to the ship (it is about a three minute walk..and they check your luggage in with the porters so you don't have to wait for the masses.).

really??? .. ok, I'll have to check that out!! thank you :)

  8. thanks everyone for your help. I really appreciate it. We're probably going to look into staying overnight Saturday at the Comfort Inn and going to the port around 9:30am. Now, my dilemma might be finding a parking spot near the Comfort Inn...maybe there will be some spots open at the Terminal on Saturday when we get there;) We can leave our big luggage in the car.. it's not far of a walk with the stroller and an overnight bag from what I can figure out.

    Feel very relieved now!!!

  9. The answer is actually quite simple and hassle free......

Stay in Westchester....white plains perhaps as it is a wonderful city....or better yet at a very nice hotel on route 119 aka tarry town road and you just breeze down the parkway...not thruway ....to the port

Get up and going by 9 am and you will be at the pier by 9:45.....after the debark rush.....

That's what we do as we are from the area

If you said you were from mass in your op.....jersey....staten island etc would not even have been mentioned

LGA? Whoever suggested that to you needs a geography lesson

The ride down the saw mill parkway to the Henry Hudson pky is a pleasure on a weekend morning and really just pay the $280 to park

You have an infant a stroller and I assume way too much luggage than needed. Lol I'm serious about bring too much stuff

I really hope you got 2 cabins.

haha, oh yes we have two cabins, plus other relatives coming along for the cruise too. Some are taking the bus, some might be driving, some are flying and will probably take a taxi over.

I'm planning on 1 piece of luggage and my carry on. my daughter and son-in-law will each have the same, then we have one piece for Maddy and her stroller. She'll actually be turning two on the cruise.. so I shouldn't really be calling her an infant :D but I know we usually have way too many bags with her stuff when we go anywhere.

The LGA suggestion was from someone who usually stays in that area, then takes a shuttle over..probably a car service, so that's why this has become my job to research.

My son-in-law knows the Westchester area, so maybe we'll look around there next time he goes there for a business trip.

    Thanks!! :)

  10. hmm, I hadn't even thought of Norwalk area.. I was just thinking too if we stayed in the area, we could snag a parking spot at the pier... if the ship docks at 8am and people are disembarking around 9-9:30, we could snag a spot then.

We were concerned if we drove down, we probably wouldn't get there until after 12noon and it would be filled up. We checked into Amtrak, they don't run from Worcester area on the weekends, and then we'd still have to get from the station to the cruiseport with all of our luggage and the stroller.

I like the suggestion about the Parkright, although I don't think my son-in-law would trust someone else driving his car like that :)

thanks again for all of the suggestions!!

  11. thanks everyone! yeah, we're just exploring everything. We're worried if we drive down to NY (from Massachusetts) that morning, we wouldn't get a parking spot at the port. I've read it's limited parking. We've looked into taking a bus to NYC, but then still have to schlep luggage along with pushing the stroller/car seat from the station to the Port/taking a taxi and fitting it all in.

I think I'll look into the sleep, park link and see what I can find. Thanks for the SI suggestion along with the Comfort Inn information. All worth checking out.

Thanks for all of your help!

  12. we're sailing on the 3/6/2016 Breakaway to the Bahama's. Any suggestion for sleep, park and cruise hotels in the NY/NJ area? Someone suggested staying in the LGA area... Do any hotels have shuttles or should we just get a car service? it will be 3 adults and one infant. thanks!! :)

  13. We planned the week of 3/6 as I thought that was my College's spring break week (it's usually the first full week of March)... but the calendar was changed and our spring break is 3/13-3/19. We're still going 3/6!

I don't think the college age kids will be that bad, if we were leaving from Florida, it might be. But as zqvol said, it's the unsupervised kids you have be concerned with!!

We were on Carnival during Spring Break 2008 and it wasn't that bad. The college age kids were up late and slept in late... the unsupervised little kids however, stole my mother's wheelchair overnight!! little brats!
