  1. COVID-19: Almost 2000 trapped on Coral Princess cruise ship off WA coast after virus outbreak | PerthNow Media report. 100 positive on board? Take care all and hopefully mild.
  2. Report-of-the-Special-Commission-of-Inquiry-into-the-Ruby-Princess.pdf (nsw.gov.au) Who knows how the class action will pan out. The nsw report had some interesting findings about how the ship was managed on return to Australia. As we know multiple other ships were impacted with various outcomes. Hopefully happier times are ahead.
  3. Another for a special treat in Adelaide would be Home | Magill Estate Restaurant- Magill Estate Restaurant Beautiful to tour, eat/drink and view the history of the place. Clare valley has many lovely options but might be too far.
  4. Yes there are many options. Visit Us | Dining & Restaurants | St Hugo FINO at Seppeltsfield - Seppeltsfield Barossa These are also excellent.
  5. Had a brief look. Looks as if the price is per vehicle?? Princess Cruises - Excursion - Adelaide by Private Vehicle - Car Class full Day (With Guide)
  6. a day trip with lunch to the Barossa valley is currently around AU$1000 per person! Is this a private day trip? Where are they having lunch? Does sound expensive but suppose it depends on the details. Agree a self drive at your own pace would be nice or even a bus trip. Not far from the port to the Barossa region, 80kms.
  7. We have lived the high/low water interruptions, as some refer to them a number of times. Frustrating and mixed responses from cruise operators and travel agents. Eventually it returns to normal cruising until it happens again. Seems to be a known risk and part of river cruising. Well documented on this forum. Can understand the distress some express. For many it is a trip that they may not get to do again and is not a cheap option, especially if long flights are involved. Getting up to date info from forums like this assisted us and others. Getting info from cruise lines even when on board can be challenging. Even comical. People generally do/say the best but circumstances are often beyond there control. Good luck to all cruising at present.
  8. Yes, some prefer to cruise on all inclusive others to pay as they go. For some the ship is the destination for others they are more interested in seeing different ports. We did a med cruise on Oceania Riviera and loved the experience. Apparently some reno is planned now. Regatta is a smaller ship but would likely be a similar standard. Hope the weather is kind when it ventures down under.
  9. Fortunately like all travel products people can usually find a cruise to suit their budget. Wonder having lost 2 years plus cruising/travel opportunity, some may seize the moment and splurge on a premium cruise? Especially if older and see time and health issues potentially being a factor?
  10. Hopefully no one is seriously ill. Must be difficult for the staff on board under these circumstances too.
  11. What happens to those who test positive? Are they kept on the ship until negative?
  12. Eden is a scenic place but small, what activities will be offered for the cruise passengers?
  13. Good to know capacity is being provided for the population. Staffing seems to be a major issue at present, on land or sea or in the air.
  14. Equity and access to health/hospital care is an issue for many. Can recall when caravanning a few years ago, next to us was an elderly couple who told us they were at this large rural town because they knew the healthcare and hospital provided excellent care/services. Some say the cruising lifestyle offers a comfortable option and sense of security as they age. Cannot blame them either. Good to have options.
  15. Accurate reporting is essential especially with health issues. Sometimes with cruising and travel we have found great value from other people who are living the experiences, on board reporting on forums like this. Especially when major issues disrupted travel on european river cruises, high low water. Getting factual current info from providers or travel agents was not always timely.
  16. Thankfully we have moved on from the individual states guarding their borders and hospitals. Memorable comments from a premier at the time wanting to restrict hospitals for state use only, which would be tricky if an unfortunate interstate person needed admission. Hopefully the new protocols have sorted all that out, albeit hospital care seems less necessary now with current treatments. The mantra at present is cruise/travel with confidence, what will be will be. Personal responsibility, health/travel insurance and all will be well. Much as things were pre pandemic.
  17. Reading with interest. Hopefully no one becomes seriously ill. People keen on cruising again will want to know how outbreaks are being handled, given the recent history. Accuracy and transparency are key for people to have confidence around risks and safety. We know how stretched the health system is at present and most have done all they can to be safe. Given how social cruising is and people enjoy eating and drinking masks cannot be worn all the time. It is how outbreaks are handled that will assist with personal decisions. Offloaded? Confined to cabins? Assistance when cruise cancelled? Is there a website that shows the health status of cruise ships?
  18. Love reading all the details of the current state of cruising. Looking at travel and cruising again. Viewing huge delays and missed luggage at airports but it might be related to school holidays and lack of staff. Great to see things are slowly returning to the joy of travel. Sounds as if maintaining a sense of humour and patience will be of assistance.
  19. Thanks for the info re the refit. We loved the PH on Riveria with the bath but can understand some find baths difficult to get out of. Nothing stays the same. Mindful to check details prior to booking.
  20. loriva excellent details in your review. Land tours/pre/post cruise can be convenient and easy if not familiar with the areas visited. Will be interested to hear how the rest of the trip flows. Thank you.
  21. Something to be mindful about if cruises are going to changed at short notice. Wonder if pre/post cruise arrangements have been made with the cruise line if they are then responsible for costs and changes?
  22. Reading this thread with interest. On our last cruise 2019, so long ago, we spoke with people on board who loved P O UK cruise experience. They were from the UK and we were all on a Cunard cruise. Wonder how the UK and Australian PO differ? Agree would not pay to see that particular show but each to their own.
