  1. @Quartzsite Cruiseri join all others with prayers for your DH and successful surgery and healing.
  2. Long time not posting from me. I posted a couple of times from the American Star, but haven't since I got home. Arrived in Denver, and the next morning my friend tested positive. So, I got on the bus and hurried home (masked). The next day I woke up with a cold (and I have kept testing, and thankfully I am negative). Between the cold and the log-in problems, this is my first time since the cruise. I enjoyed the riverboat cruise, but will stick to HAL! It would have to be a very special itinerary to do such a small ship/boat again. Food was lackluster, and really not much choice. I loved the Hudson River Valley and the sights. My step-son with the double cancer is slowly recovering from the adrenal gland surgery. Because of the extensive surgery, it will be 4-6 months before his kidney removal of his second cancer. He finally is able to get out some, which is helping his attitude. I just want him to try to keep positive, as he still has some battles to fight. Cancer has affected my family - my DSis passed at 39 of breast cancer, my DM at 82, and I have had my bouts with basal cell. For those with hip surgery looming, it has come a long way. My Son-in-law just had a hip replaced and it was easy for him. Of course he is in excellent physical condition. My middle step-son has had 2 hip replacements. First one at age 32 (accident), and then his second surgery at age 50. Second one more successful than the earlier one! I think I will wait for a Blue Hawaii drink till I get to the Hale Koa in January! If they can't do one, I can walk next door to the Hilton Hawaiian Village! Actually, a Mai Tai will be my first order at the Barefoot Bar. When we first visited Cabo San Lucas in 1985 (1st HAL cruise) it was barely a "village". I had to use my very basic high school/college Spanish to order beer for our group. By the time we visited again in 2002, it was a booming resort community. It wasn't on our itinerary on my Panama Canal transit earlier this year. There have been numerous bear sightings in our little town this fall. Hope they have all gone to higher ground to hibernate and don't come around for hugs! Have a great day everyone. Mary Kay
  3. Greetings from the Hudson River heading back toNYC. Will be doing last leg of transit into city u deftness cover of night! Today was our visit to West Point, which was very abbreviated, because of a bus breakdown on the way to pick us up. Understandable, but very disappointing, nonetheless. iam looking even more forward to my TWO cruises already booked on BHB’s for 2023. Glad I tried River cruising, so I can more completely enjoy HAL. My step-son is back in hospital for an infection. Think this is part of what has been him starting on the road to recovery. Still no pathology reports, which is troubling to say the least. Fly back to Denver tomorrow and then home on Monday. It is great to travel ,but I will feel better when I get back to the Western Slope of Colorado! Have a great rest of the day, everyone. Prayers for all.
  4. This will be quick, as the internet is so sketchy. I am still on American Star. It is “nice” , but definitely not a BHB! Would I do this again - - - -maybe, and maybe not. I really don’t like the shortened amount of sailing time, activity level of excursions has been sorely misrepresented, and food is so-so. I have enjoyed being with my two friends, meeting the other passengers, the fall color. Looking forward to our visit to West Point tomorrow. My step-son is still waiting for pathology report on his surgery. It has been sent to Mayo - don’t know which one. @rafinmd, please put him on the rotation. My prayer for him right now is that can improve his attitude and coping skills. Otherwise, he won’t be able to put up much of a fight. Have a great day, everyone.
  5. How awful for those stranded. Hope it can all be worked out in a satisfactory manner.
  6. Yes, of course I will give my opinion of ACL. It is a very different type of trip for me, but I am excited to try something new! Many thanks to all for the kind words, thoughts and prayers for my step-son. We as the family know this is a marathon, not a sprint ! I am getting away now while he is not seeing anyone. I will help when needed.
  7. Good afternoon. It has been ages since I have been able to post! Lots going on, and won't bore you with most of it! I have laughed with you and cried with you, and have been reading the Daily, even if I couldn't post. My biggest worry is that my oldest step-son has been diagnosed with both kidney and adrenal gland cancer. Both are primary, but separate cancers. Wednesday was an almost 6 hour surgery to remove adrenal and after about 2 months, the kidney removal will take place. He and his wife didn't break the news to any in the family till last Saturday. They had gone thru the entire summer with testing, and then with the knowledge before surgery could be scheduled. Any spare prayers are appreciated! I was supposed to be on the 150th Anniversary cruise of the Rotterdam, but had cancelled back in July. Some of my friends had been wanting me to join them on a Hudson River cruise. Late yesterday, a singled cabin opened up and I booked the cruise, airfare, and pre-cruise hotel after 4 pm yesterday!!!!! I will go to Denver on Thursday or Friday, and we will be flying to LGA on 10/22 with departure on 10/23 for a 7-day cruise. I will come home probably about 11/01! Lots to do in less than a week, and I have Tuesday tied up with an all day Red Cross event that I had already agreed to work! @kazu I can relate to car issues. I had my car in for work that had been done in April (part order took 4 months to arrive). Same problem started again, and it was in for work about 3 weeks ago. After 2-1/2 days, it started again, after dealer thought it was fixed for good. Now, my car is at the dealer with no date when they will give it back. Waiting for a part (should come sooner), and I now have a loaner. Hate the loaner, but I will deal with it, as it gets me from Point A to Point B. If the car isn't back by Wednesday I may give the loaner back while I am on the river cruise! One good thing, except for cruise is that we have had a beautiful month of perfect temps, and no wind! Trees are loosing leaves, but the colors in my sub-division have been quite lovely. Glad I don't have to clean up the mess, as that is part of the HOA's problem. Thanks to all who post here for the wonderful camaraderie that is shared! Have a good evening. Mary Kay
  8. Also, depending on date, the Alaska sailing season will be starting. Then ships.eave SD and will be departing from Seattle and ancouver.
  9. We were on one cruise when they ran out of Heineken!!!!!!!?!
  10. Good afternoon! It is a much cooler day here - overcast, and trying to give us a little rain. At least some of the smoke has cleared out for the time being. Hope the containment continues and that the horrible fires can be a memory soon. When I was growing up, I always loved it when my Grandmother and some of her sisters were together. Talk about Irish superstitions!!!!! They had one to fit any situation. Wish I could remember some of their conversations more clearly. @Cruzin TerriI surely hope, for your sake, that the construction can be completed in a timely fashion. It has to be so disheartening to discover more damage on an almost daily basis. @smitty34877, Miss Camilla is so beautiful. She looks like she is a very vibrant and charming little one. I think we all would like to give her a big hug. Hope the rest of the day is great for everyone! Mary Kay
  11. Good afternoon, good friends! Happy Monday, and hope that the rest of the day will be a stellar one for everyone! First and foremost, thanks to @richwmnand @rafinmd for their daily diligence in keeping this wonderful Daily going. I have been reading in the past few weeks, but not usually posting or even "liking" the posts at times. @kazuyou tribute to your wonderful Jose was such a beautiful Celebration of Life! I marvel that you did so much yourself! What a wonderful gathering it must have been!! I have loved all of today's lovely photos of Bangkok. My husband went there on his R&R while in Vietnam. He loved his visit to Bangkok! I just got out his photo album from that year, and sadly, so many of the pictures are fading. He was in Vietnam from 69-70, and I am sure many of us have color photos from that era that are so faded! (The black and white pictures he took are still of very good quality.) I have decided that I will just WILL myself into a better outlook. So, this morning, I had a list of tasks to be done. I started with the first one which was cleaning out the cabinet under my kitchen sink! Of course, that led to cleaning out two more cabinets in the laundry area. When I got down on the floor, something in my one knee reminded me that an 80-year old woman shouldn't be doing such things. It seems fine now, but guess that was enough for one day! Got most of my list done, and I am so proud! Still need to put things out of the way for tomorrow's arrival of the cleaning lady! Glad that the wildfires aren't gaining in strength, at least today. Our valley has been inundated with the smoke from those fires. We will gladly accept smoke as opposed to more fires! We can't even see any of the surrounding landscapes which normally are quite visible. From my home Colorado National Monument is barely visible even though it is less than 5 miles from me! Have a great rest of the day, everyone! Mary Kay
  12. To all today who have posted their precious memories, it is appreciated. Thank you for those mentioning my DH and me. It has been a hard two-three weeks for me. (Our anniversary date, the date of my DM’s death, the anniversary of my DSis’ death and now today.)
  13. HappyLabor Day! Thank you for all the wonderful posts and the great folks doing the postings. Life goes on.
  14. @Seasick Sailor, prayers being sent for your DH for a rapid diagnosis of all issues. Also thankful for you both that he was he was in the right place at the right tome.
  15. Good morning! The picture of VJ Day reminds me of our visits to the USS Missouri and standing in that very place. Along with the USS Arizona - "The Bookends of WWII!" I enjoy volunteering at the Food Bank at my Step-D's church. At their monthly event, a grocery car of food is given to each of about 200-250 families. Thank you Food Bank of the Rockies for their huge deliveries each month. I haven't posted at all this week and know I have missed many birthdays and anniversaries. Best wishes to all. This week has been quite difficult, but I wanted to post to share some important information I was given about Covid boosters, and variant booster. When I scheduled my mammogram, I had to attest that I hadn't had a booster in the six weeks prior. After the mammogram, I got my appointment for my second booster. When I went to the Health Department yesterday for the 2nd booster, they said that they anticipated delivery of the variant booster by the end of next week. If I opted for the 2nd booster then I would have to wait for TWO months before I could get the variant booster. From the discussion yesterday, they advised the 2 month break between booster and variant, or 2 months between variant and then booster. I just wanted to pass this along, as it could affect some of those who have recently gotten their 1st or 2nd booster! Hope everyone has a great Friday! Mary Kay
  16. Don’t understand. Explain your question further. Anyone with proper documentation will be able to board. Special circumstances???
  17. Just another short post from me. My posting this week has been difficult, as it has been a hard week for me. Wanted to share a picture of our beloved Trier.
  18. Just me with another quick note - Thirty years ago today was Hurricane Andrew. I was working for telco in Florida that fateful day. Changed forever how we did our job.
  19. Since I am a solo traveler, I have to do my own unpacking. I have so much to do that I “listen” while doing important things. Gotta multi-task in todau’sworld😁😁
  20. Just a quick note from me. @Quartzsite Cruiser, I had both shingles shots (shingrix) pre-2020, and I remember one of them was “rough” for me for a couple of days afterward and sore arm for almost a week. Can’t remember which one was problematic. I had the previous single shot several years prior to that 2 shot batch.
  21. Just a quick note from me tonight. Have been to Nassau twice, both on HAL! First time on Rotterdam (1991) where it was fun. Carnival Fantasy, Rotterdam, and USS Nashville (where my nephew was on) - Papa Bear. Mama Bear and Baby Bear in a row. DH went to tour USS Nashville (not for me). Second time, we were there we walked up (quite a ways) to a Fort! Great view of the harbor and the town. Crazy day for me, but I thank the Good Lord for every day that I have. Went to Mass tonight as I had it said for DH. Tomorrow would have been our 51st anniversary. Miss him every day. Have a great day everyone! Mary Kay
  22. Today is a good day!!! @kazu, thanks for the great news about Shadow! Your friend Liz is a treasure, and it is wonderful that she figured out the location! Also good news for @Seasick Sailorand @Quartzsite Cruiserwith getting "some" rain in Texas. Hope it continues. This week has been busy for me with Red Cross, so I have managed to read "The Daily & Fleet Report" but just didn't manage to post. Several Zoom meetings that have gone on longer than planned. I have been reading the reports of boosters and aftermath, and hoping that I won't suffer too much from the side effects. Each time has gotten worse. I had planned to get my booster in this last week, but was cautioned not to do so! I have a mammogram scheduled for next Wednesday, so I will get the booster after that. Today has interesting days. Aviation (my DH was retired USAF) and humanitarian are both great days. I love fried catfish, and usually get it when we go to one particular restaurant. I like most potatoes (my Irish background), but don't eat French fries. For some reason, that is one way I can live without. It is overcast here, but don't know if that will bring any moisture, but we can always hope! Have a great day, everyone! Mary Kay
  23. Hospice is such a blessing in the final days both to the family and to the patient. Sending prayers. My neighbor just passed today with Hospice attending.
  24. Early post from me, which is most unusual! Going to "mountain" area with step-son and step-daughter and their spouses. Guess that will be my son and daughter day celebration! @Seasick Sailor, I was at a 2-hour meeting yesterday at VA, and the telemedicine was one of the topics of discussion. It is a good thing, if it suits a particular situation, but VA is trying to get back to more of an in-person setting from what I could learn. Hope the fires are quickly controlled in your area. Scary! @smitty34877, so sorry to read about Tana. Glad you are getting some help. I know that Paxlovid is used in age related and serious illness situations, but it is worrisome that there seems to be the rebound virus as an aftereffect. Prayers for your family! Beautiful day today with not a cloud in the sky. Should be a nice day on Grand Mesa, if the "skeeters" aren't bad. Prayers for the Care List. Hope those on Happy List continue celebrating. Have a great day, everyone! Mary Kay
