  1. I just started picking up insurance with Covid going on for the few cruises I've done since. But luckily I've never had to use it. I just expect if I had an issue it would be covered (local cruising never had to fly).

I am now looking to do a land vacation to Colorado and want to make sure I have coverage with all the crazy stuff happening with airline delays. How is coverage dependent on the reason a flight is delayed or cancelled with insurance?

I also booked a few hotels for our stay in the mountains and wanted to see if I could get coverage if we are unable to get to the lodging due to snow storms or just snow blocking road access?

Thanks for any advice anyone has!

That is what I thought. See post #4.

I suppose it depends on when the person tests positive. Is Carnival testing at the pier or must you present results of a test taken earlier? If people sharing a cabin have different addresses and one cancels prior to arrival, it may still be possible to board.

If the rest of you are not in close contact, you may be OK but it is something that will have to be addressed in real time if it happens. It depends on your travel plans and at what point you plan to join up.

We are all testing the 2-3 days prior to arriving to port that they tell us to, most of us are doing the home test that's proctored and one is doing testing at their school.

  3. So Carnival just sent an email out with this info:

    • Any guest who tests positive at embarkation, and their traveling companions in the same stateroom along with other close contacts, will not be able to cruise and will be provided a future cruise credit. (A close contact is any individual who has been within 6 feet of an infected/symptomatic person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period within 14 days prior to sailing.)

It sounds like anyone in the cabin even if they aren't close contacts would be barred from cruising even if they hadn't met before getting to the port?

    Totally sucks if so.

Insurance will reimburse you 100% of the cruise fare and any other prepaid nonrefundable costs if you cancel for a covered reason. Covid is considered a medical reason so get a confirmation of the diagnosis and file a claim. To me cash is always preferable to any FCC offered by the cruise line.

Notify the cruise line of the cancellation as well as the insurance company. The insurance company will open a file for you as you start the process of submitting the appropriate documentation.

Will the rest of the party still be able to cruise since we are not 'close contacts' as stated in the policy? We haven't had large group together since before covid time and I want to make sure if someone ends up getting left behind they are taken care of money wise but everyone else can still enjoy their vacay.

  5. Just being having last week worries if something happens as my party is coming from all over to cruise. If someone pops up POS before we meet up, we aren't close contacts as no one is in town together yet, what is the best route so the others can still enjoy their vacation? We all have separate insurances.

Cancel that person and  get FCC or refund (whatever they offer?) and claim any insurance coverage for extra loss?

No show and claim insurance on everything? I've never used travel insurance so don't know how that works?

Thanks for any advice. Just getting last minute jitters of something happening!

Carnival allowed you to change sailings because you were booked on a Bermuda itinerary? Had they changed your itinerary? Please explain.  I absolutely don't want to get stuck going to Nassau and Freeport when I paid for days in Bermuda.

There was no fees to change bookings a couple months ago. Dunno if that still applies, especially with it being past final payment. Itinary didn't change yet that I know of, we just decided not to take the chance since most of our party lives in Florida and can't see the point of paying to fly elsewhere with prolly a good 50/50 chance of it changing to a trip we could do local for much cheaper lol

PEAT TAYLOR - where are you?  Does anyone have current contact info for Peat?  Is he still operating tours?  It's been several years since we've been to Ocho Rios and this time is very special as we are taking my husbands ashes to be scattered.  We used Peat many times in the past and really enjoyed his personal service.

Just booked him for our May trip. Contacted him via his website form but the email he responded back was peattaylortours@gmail.com

Did you know you can ask for other options?  For example, we got offered a Jr. Suite with an obstructed view a couple of months ago.  Nah, I'm good with my unobstructed balcony.  Well, how about an Ocean Suite for just a bit more?  Mmm, maybe.  Oh, the Grand Suite is available for just a few hundred more than that.  Sold!  At about 60% of the going rate online, which works for me.  Just nice to know if she calls back.  Good Luck!

I was thinking about that afterwards but decided it's prolly best to stay where we are so we aren't going cruising vacation broke lol

  9. Oh that sucks. I actually did my first tea time on my last cruise a month ago with a friend I finally talked into cruising. I had never had the urge to check it out (not big on tea). But she wanted to go so we did. The snacks were so yummy! And they had a green tea that I was ok with sipping on. Was thinking of trying it with some strawberries cut into it on our next cruise. Sucks I won't be able to!

  10. I always hear about it. Even talked to my friends about it. We decided an amount and type of room we'd be willing to upgrade to if this rare thing ever happened (We're currently in a Cove Balcony). I've been cruising the most out of the four of us. Call was for a Family Harbor Suite (with split bathrooms) for another $400. Unfortunately one of my friends is a bit broker so out of curtesy of her budget and the idea of more kids around us (plus the perk of a family lounge that I'm paying for that we don't need) I declined. Now if they'd call back and offer a Havana Suite for that price...

Oh...I am waiting to hear back from Cap't Marvin.  No reply yet.  We are on the same cruise in May.  🙂

    How many in your group?

Four of us. I also contacted Marvin but I dunno if my friend would prefer a catamaran over a regular boat. Here was his response to me (I also asked about tour times as thats a lil confusing sometimes with ship times).

As per Cruise Mapper website, Carnival Horizon will be here at 7:00AM-3:00PM local time (8:00AM-4:00PM ship's time) on May 25th. Our earliest tour is the 8:30 AM local time 2-stop stingray snorkel trip. If you are able to get on the first tender boats off your ship, you may be able to make it to that trip's check in time which is 8:00 AM local time.

We also have our 10:00 AM 3-stop stingray snorkel trip and our 10:30 AM starfish/stingray/snorkel trip, where you'd have ample time to get to our office for check in and get back to your ship's last tender after your trip.

For reservations, please complete the form at www.captainmarvins.com where you can also find more information about our tours, and we will confirm by return email. I look forward to hearing from you again!

    Jats for Capt. Marvin’s

  12. With the ports opening up we're trying to book the tours at our hopeful stops. Jamaica we stop in Ocho Rios and we want to do Blue Hole. I just sent an email out to a few tour guides in regards to pricing and availability. One came back and said he could book it, but the second one said that it was because an access to Cruise Ship ports requires certain permissions which we don't have. Does this vary by tour guide does anyone know? Or is there going to be restrictions when we arrive that is has to be tour ship sponsored ones only?

  13. when you order your first drink make sure they activate it on your card for that trip. One deal I had didn't signify if it was one or two people in the room getting it (supposedly they forgot to add the fine print it was only supposed to be one person). So they gave the deal to both of us, but don't let them charge the drink thru without making sure they see that the deal is set up for you.
