Seabourn Club changes - a mixed (laundry) bag?
frantic36 replied to claranda's topic in Seabourn Cruise Line
Yes from my understanding because I needed to find that out for my husband and I. That I don't know so you may need to make a phone call. -
Seabourn Club changes - a mixed (laundry) bag?
frantic36 replied to claranda's topic in Seabourn Cruise Line
It has always been that after you cash in a reward cruise you start again to accrue sailed days. Before though it meant your first 7 day was after 140 days and now it will be after 350 days but after that you will accrue another 7 day after 110 days according to the Seabourn Concierge I just spoke to. This is why we have decided not to take our next award cruise but leave it as that means we will get to the 350 days next year and then we will only need to acquire 110 days after to accumulate another 7 day. We only usually sail V3 so we are okay to pay for the upgrade. I did also find out if you take a paid upgrade prior to sailing those will now acquire points as well. -
Interestingly for me I just received a phone call from the Seabourn Concierge at Seabourn Australia and she was able to answer a few questions. Club Points and Club Days are not the same as @sfvoyage said. Club Days are the old sailed days. We have a 7 day award cruise due and was thinking about taking it but have decided against it. We normally only sail a V3 unless we take a later paid upgrade which hasn't been included in calculations before. Therefore with that plus two upcoming cruises plus the 150 points they will give us after October 20 we will reach the 350 Club Days. This means we will only have to sail 110 days each time afterwards to reach a 7 day award cruise rather tan the 140 or 250 for 14 days. So we are okay to pay the difference from V1 to V3. This is meant to be helpful to any others who have award cruises coming due, who don't normally sail in the higher levels and may also be getting the bonus points. The other news I was told was that, due to feedback, after 20 October any upgrade offers taken just prior to sailing you will get the upgrade points included.

Portofino - New dress and drinking guidelines
frantic36 replied to little britain's topic in Italy Ports
I think the rules are quite fair and sensible, not at all brutal. Having been in Portofino a few times I can't imagine walking barefoot in Summer . -
They do average out the category however we have found there is a catch. It relates to not counting any upgrades you might have paid for, also if you had booked and paid for a V1 while they had a sale on which automatically upgrades you to a V2 or V3. Also if any of those bookings were guarantees and you got a V4 by default.

The production shows might be a little bigger but the mood after the show finishes in the bars is very quiet. We did an 11 day cruise around Japan last October and just about everyone seemed to go to bed after the show. The food and wine was very good but my husband refuses to try them again because it was so boring after the show. We only found a group of four sometimes in one bar who was prepared to enjoy some night time dancing.

Seabourn Club changes - a mixed (laundry) bag?

I read through the T&Cs on the link provided in the email and as yet it hadn't been updated to reflect to changes. It just mentions changes will occur on October 2025. -

In other areas they mention Club Days so I agree it isn't clear if Club Days is the same as Club Points and needs to be clarified. -
Anyone flown Perth to Tahiti?
frantic36 replied to percoriel's topic in Australia & New Zealand Cruisers
We are doing the reverse Tahiti to Perth next February on Air New Zealand. We have flown this airline before and the Auckland airport is efficient. If you are booking it all on one ticket there should be no issues with the transfer between flights. We have chosen to fly Air Tahiti Nui to Auckland stay overnight and then Air New Zealand non-stop to Perth. Only because the flight out of Papeete on ANZ left at 3am and we didn't like that idea. -
This has been around since at least when I started sailing Seabourn 15 years ago. A complimentary 1 week cruise after 140 days and a 2 week cruise after 250 days if you accumulate. What they do is look at what category you normally book then calculate the total price of per diem x 7. They then can take the total and apply it as a discount to the cruise you want to book. As @purpleally I also just get my TA to sort out the details. What is new is that they have it in your account as I don't recall that before. I was aware of the benefit and would check ever so often for how close to redeem the cruise.

Curious comment? I have been sailing on Seabourn since my early 50s and am now in my mid 60s. There are no discos or huge production numbers but like @B-HQC we enjoy the evening post dinner drinks and there were certainly people around and entertainment and often dancing after 10.30 in the club.Especially on the shorter cruises and we even had a lot of fun in the evening on the final Odyssey cruise which some would think an older demographic. I think a lot of Seabourn Sailors are young at heart no matter what the birth date is. I will point out that while the night show on Deck 6 theatre is on then there is no live music in The Club on Deck 5 though there is a juke box. Once the show is over the band returns.

What are your BIGGEST cruise pet peeves?
frantic36 replied to cruisin marilyn's topic in Ask a Cruise Question
@radiationman I'm glad I wasn't eating reading your comment. Those are all gross and shows these people are idiots who I would avoid. -
@Lois R I will be arriving in Rome at 8am after 2 flights and a layover totalling ~20 hours so I have booked the night before arrival so that we can drop our bags in the room and shower, change and likely head out exploring. It is the ability to shower and change that is appealing. I have already contacted the hotel to let them know we will not actually arrive on the 5th but will arrive the morning of the 6th. I will email them just before our first flight just to reconfirm they know we are coming on the 6th. I usually don't bother but have been finding it harder to sleep on planes even in business and the price for the hotel wasn't expensive so it just felt like it was a nice way to start our holiday.

We're doing an Iceland/Norway cruise next year and this brings flashbacks of fishing while young in cold weather. I will pass on this but thanks for the warning as we will make sure we take the Antarctica and thermal gear. -
We made Diamond Status. Seabourn Doen't Care!
frantic36 replied to notjaded's topic in Seabourn Cruise Line
I'm sorry your disappointed but it is what it is. We never received an email when we hit Diamond except pre-covid on our next booking we did receive Diamond luggage tags. No further updates since then as we don't get luggage tags. We just enjoy the perks for what we receive. Enjoy the laundry as we send a bag out frequently and can pack less. -
From what I have heard on CC it is now $65 /bag but I am happy to be wrong.

@Lois R I hope you enjoy your Encore sailing. Seabourn Square on Deck 7 is a lovely place to find people and share a coffee and a snack if you like. It is also where guest services and destination services reside. When you get your Source App working, I can't help as I am on Apple, you can pre-order coffee or tea. You can also get champagne, mimosas or an irish coffee there...not that I have but friends have. It closes at 6pm I think. You mentioned laundry in your Cooler comment. Seabourn does a by the bag laundry special for $65. I could get a lot of laundry in the bag and it comes back ironed and hanging or your smalls folded, wrapped in tissue and in a wicker basket. I agree with Flying Scots Sailors that on the crossing it wouldn't be worth the Retreat especially as you seem to enjoy meeting people and the weather will be cooler. We have it booked for an upcoming Med cruise but only because it will be hot and we have been to many of the smaller ports so want to just relax. Next year we have a Norway cruise on Ovation and we wouldn't book it on that. Even though there is the Source App they will also give you a paper copy of The Herald and The Dining Menus left on your bed at turn down service. Don't forget Hosted Tables are a thing on Seabourn. One lovely Solo we met on a South America cruise was on a Hosted most nights by her choice. Have a good cruise Lois.

We did the final voyage last September on the Odyssey Vancouver to Japan I don't remember very rough seas though I do recall it was very rainy in northern Japan and we had to stay overnight in one port as there was a storm we needed to avoid. My husband and I still enjoyed the cruise. I was then on Regent on a circle Japan cruise in October/ November and there was a lot less rain though very cool. At the end of that cruise we did a day trip out to Nikko in the mountains to see the Autumn colour in the trees. It was lovely.

No argument here. 😁 I am in Western Australia and ANA only resumed flights from here last October since Covid and JAL still only has flights via Sydney so Singapore Air is our best option. When next we visit Japan I would like to try ANA as have read some good reviews. I hope you have a good flight.

I am sure @Bgwest was talking South East Asia not Seattle. Singapore Airlines is my preferred for Business Class though I have not done JAL, Cathay Pacific. Part of the reason is Changi Airport is the best airport lounge. Have recently visited Japan and their lounge is just okay and flew on Qatar a few months ago and found the airport and lounge also just okay.
