  1. BTW, I believe the ice rink is on deck 2 - just forward of the elevators.
  2. Hoping to hear from someone who has actually stayed in a cabin on deck 2 of Voyager, Explorer or any ship in that class. Especially in a cabin in the mid to slightly aft part of the ship. I'm a bit concerned about noise and vibration or other issues. If you have, please share your thoughts! Thanks.
  3. Wow! Thanks for that great info! Trying to decide if we want to go for a cabin on the two. Have been on ships when we hear the anchor and various noises when we are down low. Mostly not too bad, but sometimes sounds and vibrations can be a bit much. I imagine on this type of ship they insulate for sound pretty well though. For that matter, we’ve been higher and had weird noises too. Thanks again for replying!
  4. Yes, I do know there is no deck plan for deck one. I am guessing it’s stuff to do with the mechanics, engine, and running of the ship. Possibly storage. But then, but I think what both of us are guessing are they crew quarters could be storage as well! Or offices and crew, quarters or something along that line. Probably have to be an inside person who works on the ship or has a lot of knowledge about the ship design and so on. Anytime there’s a dining room above there’s usually a bit of noise from scooting chairs or cleaning machines or whatever. Not sure about on this ship just the same, inquiring minds want to know, lol! Thanks so much for the info!
  5. Thanks for the suggestion. I actually did ask on there but not exact cabins. Just asking the general question of what the blocked out areas are. Didn’t actually get a real specific answer but a sort of generally a good guess. Since they don’t show it on the deck plans, it’s hard for anyone to know for sure unless they have inside knowledge I guess of ships on that particular one. I only asked on the RCI boards after it was some while with no responses on the cabin boards. Thanks for replying. I really do appreciate it!
  6. Wondering if anyone out there knows what is located on deck 2 aft in the interior portion of the deck? Would like to know if it is crew, quarters, workings of the shift, a noisy area, or watt? Also, what is directly below deck 2 aft? Any information appreciated!
  7. Does anyone know what is underneath the cabins on deck 2 port side near the rear elevators? Also in the center of deck two, across from these cabins? If anyone has stayed in any of these, did you have noises from the ships operations or any other issues in your outside cabin in the rear of deck 2? Really hoping for a quick reply! Thanks for any helpful info.
  8. I’m so surprised at sp many posts! Basically, we are fine as long as the third bed is taken care of in the morning and then run out again in the evening. That was my real concern, at least. Of course everyone has a right to input your thoughts. Happy, cruising everyone!
  9. Yes, I had thought of an incentive. Even though the ship has those mandatory service charges, we always tip our cabin, steward, waiter, etc. extra. That is another thing I thought that I saw on a thread somewhere - that someone mentioned they had asked to the steward to visit twice a day and he did. However, I couldn’t find that thread ( it could have been the same thread. the once a day cleaning was first mentioned on) so posted this question. I understand that maybe there isn’t enough staff or something but I’m sure our service charges won’t be adjusted for not getting a twice a day cleaning, it has been a hallmark of cruising for many years. If they will at least do the bed in the evening that’s fine. Make a trip I’ll be sure and ask her cabin steward when we first meet him or her. Thanks for the input and info! adding this in an edit. I missed a few of the posts above and only saw the last couple. That’s good to know that Royal officially understands about putting back folding beds. Thanks.
  10. Thanks so much for replying and for the info., (even though it wasn’t good news for us).
  11. Thought I saw something a few weeks ago about Royal Caribbean having changed regular cabin service by cabin stewards to once a day instead of twice. Then there was something else saying you could request twice. I’m especially interested in what the situation is on Quantum of the Seas. We’ll have a grandchild in our 190 sq ft cabin & don’t want to have to make the sofa bed up each night, nor put ot away each morning. Besides, the cabin stewards do up sheets and other bedding so much nicer! Hoping someone who knows for sure, will reply. Thanks for any helpful info!
  12. Wondering if Royal Caribbean ships that are in American waters, but not in port, do anything special on board to celebrate Fourth of July? Thanks for any knowledgeable, experienced replies.
  13. Good point, cublet! I’m the only other Alaskan cruise my DH, and I have been on, it was at least misting most of the time. We didn’t really hit sunny weather, except when we rode a train up a mountain in one of the ports, and after our cruise we did a four night princess land tour. Pouring buckets between the ship and the train and for a while while on the train. It was also raining moderately when we got to our first nights hotel, one of the princess lodges. There after we had great weather on all the other days that was maybe around the third week of May. Thanks for the tip!
  14. I can’t get the pictures to show. Just a little? In the center of where there should be a photo I believe. Anyway, brrrrrr!
  15. Have been charging for sometime, but also offering these things free when the ship is in port. I will definitely take the advice of taglovestocruise and try to book fast! I think that is really, really annoying. Is that when you use the app, it appears that there are several open slots for both Kansas City, Missouri Northstar and Ifly. However, when you try to book them, they are full. Same thing that happened two nights ago. On the.com site you know immediately that they are full when you check them since they say sold out.. RCI’s IT people reallyneed to work on the app issues.
  16. Well, I sure hope my daughter’s family, at least, manages to get to do these things. Thanks for the tip about the bumper cars as well! Probably certain times of the year are worse than others, but the bookings I think have been pretty heavy for most types of travel for the summer. Some friends we met on a cruise several years back did an inaugural cruise on the quantum. They got to do the rides free as well. Then for a time I think they went up to $15. At least Ifly was $15. If I understand it right, the bumper cars are Only available at certain times of the day. Some people may think you have to pay for the flow rider because low rider lessons, and so forth are showing as bookable. For stuff I can’t imagine it would be warm enough to do that unless you had an a wetsuit, I did it once, but our ship was about to leave Saint Martin, and it was much warmer than it will be in Alaska for sure.
  17. Thanks for the replies everyone.bonsai3s, I have a feeling my take on these things will be the same as your’s. Our cruise is just a couple of weeks away. Our daughter’s family will be going and they are especially anxious to do these rides. The cruise before our’s allowed booking these things 30 days prior to the cruise. Bookings for our’s didn’t open until, I believe it was, Tuesday. Probably late morning or afternoon. They weren’t available on the app but only on royalcaribbean.com. Only day 2 & 6 were offered. Of course, word spread like lightning they sold out nearly immediately. The next day they appeared on the app, and there was a bit of availability - until you tried to book! Then no availability. Our dd’s family is very interested in booking these rides. We booked in March & the excursions my daughter’s family really, really wanted to do were already full. Both through RCI and through independent tour booking sites. They really don’t want to miss doing these rides (our gs especially wants to do I fly (me, too!), and it’s making everyone anxious to grab whatever spot comes along. I guess partly because so many things posted have turned out not to be accurate (even though they may have been in the very recent past) thanks again for the input & info.!
  18. I realize the Northstar ride is very popular on certain Royal Caribbean ships that have it. Is it really”all that”? It seems to me that most of the time you wouldn’t see a whole lot more at the highest level than you would see from the highest deck. I am especially thinking of when the ship is at sea (assuming it operates at sea) or particularly as the ship cruises through the inside passage in Alaska. Perhaps I am wrong, but it seems like where the ship is at the moment you do it would have a huge bearing on what you could really see from being up higher than the top deck of the ship. The current price to do it is $19 per person. So $96 for a family of five. Did you think it was really fun? Mildly fun? So - so?
  19. Thanks, sanders. The recovery is pretty long and it’s supposed to be worse than a knee replacement, which I’ve had before. Think I want to put it off as long as I can. Ankle replacements only last 10 years,
  20. Yes, I think I saw that post, ut I should probably revisit it. I don’t recall if the far side of that parking lot is where all buses (blue, white, public) and taxis have to drop people off or not. I’m supposed to have an ankle replacement soon. Still. I can walk on any kind of terraine, syeps, hills, etc. it is just that I know I’ll be walking a lot on the ship and off the ship a lot and if , we can get closer to the visitor center, I’d prefer it. Thanks for the information though. . Nice of you to take the time to post.
  21. Thanks for the replies. I called Gino tours today which operates the white buses. They take absolutely no motorized scooters at all of any size. I did ask the question on another website’s Juneau boards. Was told to check up taxis or accessible luxury tours (I’m sure luxury tours are not cheap!). Someone posted on the other board that detects she’s are usually about $35 each way and they charge $17 for entry to the Mendenhall location when the actual charge is only $5. 🙄 I’m just adding that information on here in case others reading this or curious about this topic. No one seem to know anything about how you work it out with a taxi to get back to the port. Guess I’ll have to contact an actual taxi company and find out. Or maybe skip it. We have seen glaciers before at least.
  22. We will be in the port of Juneau, Alaska in July. Although my husband can’t walk, he can’t walk for a long period of time and his balance isn’t the greatest. Therefore he has a small folding travel scooter. It weighs 50 pounds and when folded it is about the size of a medium suitcase. We’d like to visit Mendenhall Glacier. (I understand there are paved areas to get to the visitor center and an entryway for mobility impaired people.) An easy and popular way to get there from the cruise port is to use either the Blue Bus or the White Bus. Has anyone used either of these buses who has brought along a rather compact travel scooter? if you have, I’d love to hear of your experience. i’ve heard that older one of these companies allows folding wheelchairs, but not travel scooters. I don’t know if they would exclude one this small. It would be very simple to get the scooter into the trunk of a taxi or regular car. However, I have read that taxis are very hard to get on cruise ship days and you need to reserve in advance. (There will be five ships in port at the same time that day as well.) Also I’m not sure how it would work to set up a return to the port or how much time we would need at the glacier area in order to do that. Hoping for some helpful information from anybody who has used one of these bus companies (these buses are not the regular public buses that makes stops) or even anyone who has used a taxi or Uber to get to Mendenhall Glacier and their experience. Thanks for any helpful, suggestions or information.
  23. Dan G, after looking at the Seattle guidebook, I think you are right and that it’s not going to benefit us a lot too stay in somewhere other than the airport. Thankfully, we have seen a lot of the major sites in the Seattle area and also have been to Whidbey Island. If our dd’s family happens to get in late the next day, the only thing we really be interested in doing is maybe visiting pikes place or riding on some type of the ferry for a while. Probably won’t do that though. I’ve done it before. Don’t want to shell out for the cab fare. Any other form of transportation won’t work for us because my husband will need to bring, a folding mobility scooter. Only weighs 50 pounds and is about the size of a suitcase but not a good idea for rail transportation. Can easily fit it in a cab trunk. seems like a lovely place, we just need some thing basic. Believe me I have been trying to nudge my dd! Ferry_Watcher, Cedarbrook Lodge looks very nice. I’ve seen it mentioned another posts. However, we just really need a clean and safe place to spend a couple of nights this time around. Believe me, I have tried, and I’m still trying, to get my dd to get their flights booked! She and her family are all very busy and they’re excellent at putting things off. It usually ends up costing them a lot more to do whatever as a result. Oh well, it’s their $! Thanks to all of you for taking the time to reply. I think I found a place with a good tripadvisor plus discount and an airport shuttle. Thought I would check with my daughter before booking it and she is supposed to call me later. If not, I’ll just book it for my husband and I. Only thing I don’t like is it’s nonrefundable. ☹️
  24. We will be arriving at SeaTac about 6:30 pm two nights before our ship departs from Pier 91. While I would like there to be some restaurants nearby, I really don’t think we’ll be doing too much that night. Hoping someone can share a bit of light on a few areas of town that might be good to stay in between the airport and pier 91. Have thought of staying in a hotel near the airport and still might do that. However, it would be nice to find a clean hotel or motel in a safe area that wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. After having visited some Canadian national parks for about a week prior to the cruise, I think all my husband & I plan to do is eat & relax a bit that night. We’ve been to Seattle before although it wad about 15 years ago. Our daughter’s family will be arriving sometime the next day, but do not even have flights booked yet, so I have no idea about their time of arrival. Once they are there, there will be three grandchildren to “liven things up” for the week ( if you get my drift, lol!). I may even wind up mostly doing laundry that day! Hoping someone has some good suggestions on areas to stay in with hotels or motels, and opinions on whether we should just stick to the airport area until the day of the cruise or find somewhere closer to the port, so that we won’t waste too much time getting there on boarding day. Thanks for any helpful, replies or information..
  25. If anyone can recall visiting Juneau on one of the Quantum class ships of Royal Caribbean, can you recall how long it was after you docked until they allowed passengers off of the ship? I know this can vary by port & ship. Really hoping to hear from someone who has done this and has a really good memory! Thanks for any helpful replies.
