  1. Apologies, I never thought of that. Vegans don’t really feature on my radar. I only asked because one is a natural product made with cream and probably salt, the other starts with a manufacturing process where they bleach the oil four time before adding up 30 different chemicals and emulsifiers to create an unnatural product that doesn’t even taste that pleasant. It’s great to have a choice on a cruise ship
  2. I’m sorry to ask, but who prefers margarine to butter?
  3. A few years ago it was funny watching an Irish cruiser express his disgust at the quality of the Irish Coffee served at Cafe al Baccia. The team member asked the passenger to help him make them better, there were around 6-7 passengers who watched the live instruction and voila the Irish coffee was transformed into something drinkable.
  4. That’s a good point, sometimes I just skip block postings. Paragraphs make posting so much easier to read.
  5. From memory AZ MDR creme brûlée’s definitely crack.
  6. I think that the teams non cruise experience is a good thing. Would you be happier with a bunch of NCL Carnival and RCL cast offs?
  7. I was named after a well known singer songwriter from Minnesota.
  8. You won’t find them here, and rarely with Azamara.
  9. Is this a promotion for Tony? Cruise Director is three and a half stripes, Hotel Director is four stripes.
  10. That’s a very impressive list. My mouth is watering reading it. I’d be keen to know how you got a table (twice) in the Fat Duck?
  11. Another Az team member who has stood out to us and been duly promoted is Elro. We first encountered him waiting tables in the buffet on Quest around eight years ago. Every time we saw on subsequent cruises he remembered my idiosyncratic ways. Then in 2018 we boarded Journey and spotted him in his Butlers attire, when I approached him to compliment his rise through the ranks, I got the same greeting as always, and was he so proud of his promotion. We had a quick chat and he told me he moving to Pursuit. Unfortunately when we were last on Pursuit Elro was on leave.
  12. Fantastic news from Pfizer. In the UK the BMA (British Medical Association) wrote to all GP’s last week to outline the start of the vaccination process which will be lead by GP’s, initially during December. At the outset Healthcare workers and the over 85’s will be offered the vaccine. There is however a logistical problem ahead. It is outlined in the BBC report that the vaccine needs stored at -80C I spoke today with a division of a huge US Pharmaceutical Wholesale & Distribution company, and they have no facility for that type of storage or distribution via vans and lorries in the UK. The lowest temperature currently available in the UK is -12C I have also spoken with two doctors today, and no doctors surgery will have the equipment to store at that temperature either. I highlighted the potential of logistical problems earlier in this thread. Having spent a career working in the Pharmaceutical Industry there are multitude of factors to allow for beyond drug discovery. My input was ridiculed by Fouremco and I stopped posting as a result. Subsequently TeeRick kept the beacon burning for sense and sensibility. We have breakthrough, however, we have to find a way of getting this vaccine to everyone in as fast and as safe a way as possible.
  13. I think the summary and analysis on the Azamara boards by ‘norn iron’ was spot on. It effectively ended the discussion.
  14. On the first anniversary of 9/11 I was in Asheville NC, I had a community radio station called WNCW playing in my car. At the exact time of the plane hitting the first tower they played Ring Them Bells by Bob Dylan. It poignant, symbolic, beautifully chosen and brought me out in goose bumps.
  15. I think Celebrity have dropped formal nights as well. If I’m wrong someone will correct me. I haven’t cruised with them in five years.
  16. Here is a balanced view from the BBC website on vaccine development https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51665497 Another useful website that I used while working in clinical trials is. https://clinicaltrials.gov It’s goal is to track every clinical trial around the world. It’s not the easiest website to use if you are from outside of the industry, start by typing Covid 19 into the search bar and good luck.
  17. Manufacturing of pharmaceuticals is relatively cheap. R&D costs many millions, and the cost of the drug reflects the cost of the R&D. When comes to forward thinking countries, the cost of the drug is matched to the volume of usage, which makes the drug relatively cheap, think Canada and UK, not the USA. My point at the outset was that everyone thinks once a vaccine is discovered that the whole COVID 19 fiasco will be a walk in the park, the rich get a dose quick the poor at the end of the line. Think again, the whole vaccination process (once discovered) is a logistical nightmare world wide, especially when it comes to fair and disproportionate distribution of the product. My final point on this is, it took 9 years to find a vaccine for Ebola and they haven’t yet got one for SARS yet.
  18. Did they contract 5ml, 10ml or 20ml syringes? How can they order syringes without knowing the dose?
  19. It is all very well having millions of doses manufactured and sitting in a tank of liquid. What everyone over looks is you to have to have capacity to manufacture sterile glass vaccine syringes and have have capacity at a third party filling unit to fill the syringes. That is a logistical nightmare, especially when these filling plants have to sidetrack their day to day mainstream work. Distribution is more straightforward, having a team of medics qualified to deliver in the right time scale isn’t easy either. And don’t forget at every medical unit delivering treatment of the vaccine they have to have Anaphylactic Kits on standby in case of a reaction, are they stockpiled?
  20. There is a lot of sense in this posting. With Azamara having no plans for new builds I have had concerns for a while. Royal Caribbean as a group have a track record of moving ships on to third party operators once ships across the fleet reach twenty years of age. It’s well documented that at least three of Celebrity’s M class ships are presently up for sale now they have passed twenty. I hope I am wrong and Azamara survive in this cruise market meltdown.
