  1. Unfortunately there are now 33 crew members infected On the Hurtigruten ship and they are trying to trace all the passengers who just disembarked to get them tested and isolated. So watch this space on that one. Mein Schiff has 9 cases on one of their ships. To be honest it doesn’t really matter who brought the virus on board - my point is that it has got on board these ships despite all the new safety procedures and on such a small ship this is worrying.
  2. Not a chance of us cruising again if we have to wear a mask. We won’t even go to the shops anymore due to mandatory wearing of masks. It may of course never be over in which case we will never cruise again nor will we fly on an aeroplane. We totally respect the fact that to be safe you need to wear a face mask in public places, but we both find it so distressing to wear one that we choose not to go anywhere where this is necessary. It’s a very sad situation for everybody and every time you start to see possible shoots of life returning to normal the virus raises its ugly head again. The Chinese have a lot to answer for and I feel that they have ruined the world for everybody. Seeing that the few cruise lines that have started up again (Mein Schiff and Hurtigruten Cruises) have all now had positive COVID passengers and crew on board, I think it will be a long time before normal cruising returns. Both cruise lines had a lot of safety measures in place, but the virus still got on board their ships. Feeling very sad about this. Keeping everything crossed for a vaccine.
  3. We love cruising, but am now not sure whether we will ever cruise again. Have one booked for 2021 and one for 2022, but without a successful vaccine we will not fly or cruise. I’ve only warn a face mask for 5 minutes or so and found it so claustrophobic that the thought of having to wear it for any extended time is a deal breaker. We were very fortunate to have our first Penthouse Suite on the Solstice in February To New Zealand - it was totally amazing in every way and if that was our last cruise, we certainly went out in style.
  4. Having seen Emma Cruises review on YouTube, I don't think the Scarlet Lady is a threat to Celebrity. I don't think anybody who has cruised before would be happy with the Cabins. Sleeping on a sofa bed, is not my idea of comfort - no bedside cupboards, no drawers for storing make up etc by the mirror and a shower that only slim people can get in - all looks horrendous. The ship is also littered with lovely looking furniture but most of it is too low or too small for most passengers. I think if you are young, slim and have not cruised before, I think you would enjoy the restaurants etc. particularly if you've recently left University and are used to accommodation like that. But boy she is ugly from the outside and the swimming pool is so tiny for 4,000 passengers. Certainly not for us!
  5. Just come back from our first Penthouse and our Butler Lorenzo was excellent. We tipped him $50 mid cruise and another $120 at the end. Would have given him a bit more, but we ran out of cash, as we also felt the need to tip in extra in Luminae as the service from Cartini, Nick and Fernando were outstanding as well. Fabulous cruise!!
  6. Very sad news. She has given us so much advice and help over the years. Love to her family.
  7. We were also on board and had a fab time. Loved the ship and we tried all the specialty restaurants. Great entertainment and we met so many great people. It was a really social, fun cruise and thoroughly enjoyed the Ports as well as the ship.
  8. We got off the Silhouette on Sunday and we had about a dozen free movies to watch. Watched a couple. The TV selection was truly awful and we noticed a big difference from previous cruises. Hardly anything to watch apart from News and Sport. We always spend time in our cabin late afternoon and like to watch something, whilst we relax and recharge our batteries for the evening. Will be very disappointed if they remove the free movies entirely.
  9. Well we did finally hear back last night, over 3.5 hours after the cut-off time. Both bids were rejected, but this did not surprise me at all due to the limited amount of RS and PS cabins available. Slept well last night for the first time in ages! We are certainly checking regularly for our next cruise to see if we can upgrade without going through the Move-up process, but at the moment all the higher level suites are sold out! We sail tomorrow, so have to go and pack. Enjoy your cruises everybody.
  10. Updated the above. Both bids rejected, but disappointed we were not notified until after the 48 hour cutoff time.
  11. Look forward to seeing you on board - the forecast looks very wet unfortunately, but we're sailing to relax and be spoiled!
  12. Made a couple of Move up bids about 6 weeks ago from a Celebrity Suite to both an RS and PH. I must have checked my emails dozens of times every day over the weeks! Well today was 2 days before we sail, so I stupidly spent the night checking my email every hour (sad I know, but I couldn't sleep) and nothing. Many nights dreaming of what might happen. At lunchtime today my offers were still "pending" under Manage my Booking. We have now passed the 48 hours deadline until we sail and I have not heard anything from Celebrity. I thought they would at least let you know that your bid had been rejected, but nothing! I feel totally deflated and exhausted and very disappointed not to hear anything. I now have to decide whether the stress and disappointment was worth it and whether I should bid for our next cruise in January. Am I wrong in assuming they would let me know one way or another? Has anybody else found the process stressful.
  13. Annie, I think you will find that the Exchange Rate has not dipped to £1 to $1 for many many years. Lowest it has been has been is around $1.18 to the £. See if you can find your confirmation from Celebrity - they always email you when you book anything and see what you paid. As others have said, we always pay in £'s in the UK not $'s, but the price no doubt goes up with the differing exchange rates. Thanks for the warning though.
  14. Fabulous - Iceland is one of our favourite places and great to see it in the Sunshine. Enjoy …..
  15. Try this link: https://www.celebritycruises.com/int/things-to-do-onboard/eat-and-drink/restaurants-and-cafes/the-porch Doesn't give the price, but at least you can see the menu.
