  1. We went on this segway tour a couple of weeks ago and it is just as good as everyone says. Cesar told us where to meet the driver who would have a sign with our name on it. Many taxi drivers tried to tell us they would take us, but we insisted on waiting for someone who knew our names and within minutes, our driver arrived holding his sign. We drove the 15-20 minutes to Cesars shop and began our segway tour. Cesar did an excellent job. After the tour, Cesar allowed us time to go shopping on our own. There is a large craft/gift market just down the street from his shop. We met back at this shop after an hour and they took us straight back to the port. Everything about it was good. My only word of advice is that it is HOT, so dress lightly and bring sun screen.

  2. We are considering the AIO at Mr Sanchos this summer when we dock in Cozumel. We will have our 32 and 22 year old sons with us, so an AIO is kind of a must. But I think they may also want to parasail or jet ski. I emailed and the stock email said the AIO doesn't include parasail. But can we "buy" a parasail ride or jet ski once we are there? Has anyone done this.

    Thanks!

Yes, we were just there a couple of weeks ago. We opted not to buy the all inclusive. Instead, we rented jet skis ($75 per jet ski for half hour). After that, they let us go to non AIC side of the resort and we went in the pool to cool off, then we went to the restaurant and had the very best chips and guacamole I've ever had and a few beers. After that, we both got a massage at the tables they have set up right near the pool. Everything about this place was excellent. It's less than 15 min from the terminal ($15 cab each way), it has bathrooms, showers, pools, chairs, umbrellas, tables, jet skis, ATV rentals, and horseback riding. They didn't charge us anything to get in and that gave us access to one pool, the restaurant, massage area, showers, bathrooms and beach chairs. The only benefit I saw to the AIC is that you have access to beach beds, two pools with swim up bars and all you can eat food and drinks. The non AIC side has a regular pool and beach chairs, but you'd pay extra for umbrella and there are no beach beds. We got lucky because there were only 2 ships in port so it was almost empty. If you plan to stay all day and lounge and eat and drink, then definitely do the AIC. If, like us, you just want to ride the jet ski and hang around a little while, then just pay as you go. I will definitely do this again next time I'm in Cozumel.

  3. Swapilot,

I saw your review and noticed you went on a catamaran excursion in Belize. I'm signed up for that one in April and would like some info from you on how it was. I don't know how to email you directly, but my email is grumpygreta@cox.net. Did they pick you up at the ship? How was the catamaran? How was the snorkeling? Which island did you go to and how was it?

    Thank you,

    GG

  4. Hi all,

We are going to Limon with Celebrity in April. I have done a lot of research on zipline excursions but they are all so different and there is so much confusing info. I want to know some of the details from other people who have gone on the ship's zipline excursions.

What I want to know is:

How far do you have to travel from the cruise port to the zipline

How are the roads to get there? (I get bus sick if it's too long or too winding)

How is the hike to get to the platforms? I've heard you cross a rope bridge and go up very steep steps. Is that true?

Any details from someone who has done this excursion are appreciated.

    Thank you

    GG

  5. Shore excursioneer is simply a broker for local excursion companies so you are not actually paying or talking to the person who you will be doing the excursion with. I have not used them, but I called them to ask which local company they use on their excursions and they wouldn't tell me. That makes me very suspicious. I called another discount excursion broker listed and they were happy to give me the names of the two companies they used and I was then able to research those companies. I would skip shore excursioneer and go directly to the excursion provider. It's worth a few extra bucks to book direct.

  6. I would like to hear from anyone who has been on either the Costa Rica white water rafting excursion or the zipline excursion. I've looked on Trip advisor and seen plenty of reviews but I'm looking for specific info from cruise passengers that I can't find there...

    1. Ziplining: How long of a bus ride is it to where you zipline?

    2. I've heard you have to walk across rope bridges and steep stairs to get to the start. Is that the case in Costa Rica?

    3. White water rafting: How long of a bus ride is it to where you start the rafting?

    4. I've seen videos that look like most of the ride is on flat calm water. Was that the case in Costa Rica?

    Thank you

  7. We just returned from our Panama Canal cruise. We were not sure what tour to do in Columbia. We went back and forth on this. We decided to do the Segway tour with Cesar. Let me tell you, it was the best time of the whole cruise. Cesar arranaged for our pick up at the port, and the taxi was there when they said they would be there. There was 8 of us total. We saw more in the hour and half then most tours saw in 5 hours. The nice part about the segways is that they can go down the narrow streets. If you are worried about learing how to use a segway, it is easy. If I can do it, you can do it. Cesar speaks perfect english and is a great tour guide. He showed us so much in the 90 minute tour.

Everyone in the tour said how much fun it was and it was one of the best tours of the whole cruise. If you are thinking about doing this tour, do not hesitate, it is a blast.

We booked this for our upcoming cruise in April. I have two questions:

    1. How far from the cruise port was the Segway place?

    2. Did you feel safe doing this on your own? With all the scary things we keep reading about Colombia, it makes me think if we're doing the right thing?

    Thanks

  8. Hi all,

I"d like to hear from anyone who has been to the Sloth Sanctuary in Costa Rica. I'd like to know how far it is from the ship. The ship has an excursion, but I don't like traveling very far by bus so I'm deciding if I should go. Or maybe hire a private driver if that's possible. Need to know how far away it is.

    Thank you

  9. I'll be in Aruba in November and would like to hear from anyone who has done a wave runner tour or has rented a wave runner here. How far was it from the ship? Was it any good....etc.

    Thank you

  10. Hi,

So on a whim I decided to book a cruise to Bermuda. This is my first cruise and I am going on the NCL Breakaway in a studio cabin the week of 9/21. I am in my mid-20s and cruising solo (my friends are lame and have no $).

Since booking the cruise 2 weeks ago, I have been perusing a multitude of cruise forums and YouTube videos on what to expect and what I should/should not do. As this is my first visit to Bermuda, I have no idea what I should do, and all of the forums make everything look awesome. I don't mind the beach but I do like exploring the cultural/historical aspects of new places. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do onboard/on land, I would be really appreciative.

    Thanks!

I've been there twice and the most fun thing we did was go on a wave runner tour. You cannot rent a wave runner and go on your own in Bermuda, but you can go on a guided tour. The place is right there where you get off the ship. You just go to the little booth on the pier and book whatever time is good for you. It's $125 for 90 minutes and they take you for a great ride and stop at a ship wreck so you can feed the fish and then off to a small cove where you can swim and then back. Horseshoe beach is also awesome and is easy to get to. Just take the bus that says "SPECIAL" from right in front of the ship and it takes you directly to the beach and back with no other stops. You should also take the ferry to Hamilton, but go late afternoon on Wednesday because Wednesday night at 6pm is when they start their weekly street fair and it's the only night they have that. Suggest you avoid the Bonefish restaurant on the pier. We tried to eat there, but could never get the food. Finally left after over an hour. You can also visit the glass beach which is just outside the dockyard area. You can walk it in about 20 min or take a bus. Just ask around at the dockyard and they'll tell you where it is.

  11. Hi all,

I was wondering how long it might take to get from the ship to Newark airport? I'm trying to decide how early of a flight I can book for the trip home after the cruise. I've heard there is sometimes long lines of traffic leaving the port. Do you think I could make a 10:30am flight?

    thank you

    GG

  12. A quick google came up with this

    http://www.regiondo.com/segway-tour-in-rostock-warnemuende-baltic-sea-experience?calendar=1&utm_expid=40563540-18.KQthwgg-QueA-OCMRR7RBg.1

If you can't segway there, I can highly recommend the segway tour in Copenhagen

    Simon

I actually looked at one of the pics of us on our segway tour and this is what is on the back of the guide's shirt. http://www.captain-seg.de. We actually spotted him from the ship while having breakfast and he was just across the street from the ship in a small building on a rental car lot. We saw him ride in there on his segway and walked over and found that it was a segway tour guide. He was very nice and took me and my husband on about a 1.5 hour tour. This was two years ago an I imagine they're still there.

  13. We are not taking the excursion into Berlin when we get to Warnemunde so does anyone have any suggestions of what to do? Is there a train to Rostock? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We did a segway tour in Warnemunde and it was fantastic. He took us all over the town, down the back streets to see the local farms and houses and then through a gorgeous walking path in the forest that overlooks the ocean. We saw more of that town than anyone else on our ship and it was one of our favorite days other than SPB. We didn't pre book or anything. Just walked across the street from the ship where we saw a sign for segway tours, jumped on a segway and got our own private tour of the town. If this is something you are physically able to do, I strongly recommend it.

  14. My family is looking at me for answers and I'm too unsure to tell them what they want to know!

We are stopping on Bermuda in July. We want to go to a real Bermuda beach, not the one off the pier. RC has an excursion there but I hesitate due to the cost, $30 a person, and the length, four hours. I am traveling with four small kids, so if one starts to fall apart I would like the option of heading back to the ship. I will also have my parents and a couple of grandmas with me.

So how complicated is it to use Bermuda transportation to get to the beach?

I apparently am the research person and I can already hear the harassment from my family if my plan doesn't go well.

    Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

The bus parks just outside the ship and there is a ticket counter right there as you exit the ship. You can take the regular 7 bus, which makes other stops, and just get off at HB beach, but with 4 kids, I wouldn't recommend that. There are also regular city busses that run a special non-stop service to HB and back for cruise passengers, so just ask at the ticket window. We waited about 15min for the special bus and got a nice non stop ride to the beach for the same price as the regular public bus. The bus leaves you at the top of the hill. As others said, you can pay a minivan $1 per person to drive you down the hill if your group can't walk it. If your family is up to it, you can do the same coming home. If not, there are cabs and minivans parked right there at the pier when you exit the ship and right there at the beach at the bottom of the hill. Not sure what the ship charges for kids, but at $30p/p, just the adults would cost you $150 to take the ship's excursion and you're limited to their time. I'm sure you could all get there and back for less than that. When you get off the ship, just talk to the minivan drivers, get a price and then you can make your decision to either use them, or take the bus. You don't have to decide ahead of time. Either way, it's going to be cheaper than the $30p/p the ship charges. You could even run down and get the info and make your decision and THEN go get the kids so you're not all stressed with them ready to go and you not sure what to do. Honestly, don't sweat it. Getting to HB and back is very very easy and you don't need to make prior plans or pay for an excursion. It is a gorgeous beach that has a snack stand where you can get water, soda, and beer and you can rent chairs and umbrellas. It also has a decent bathroom/changing area and it's perfect for kids because it has inlets that create a natural pool for the kids to play. Go. Have fun. Don't worry about a thing.

  15. Did you even look at the Newark Penn Station Hilton which is in the heart of downtown Newark with train to NYC access across the street?

Yes, I did thanks. Looks okay. We'll be arriving in the evening and won't be taking the train anywhere. Just want a decent, clean hotel with a good restaurant either in the hotel of within walking distance. The Hilton doesn't get great reviews for food, but I guess it doesn't really matter for one night.

  16. No, I guess I won't find anything good near the airport. Just wanted something with a nice bar and restaurant. Looks like I need to go to NYC. We'll be arriving in the evening so won't be spending much time there, but also don't want to be stuck in a place with no food/drinks and no easy access. If anyone has suggestions, please share.

    Thanks

  17. Hi all,

I'm looking for a good hotel for one night pre cruise. I know there are lots of good value hotels like Fairfield Inn and Courtyard Suites...etc. I would like to stay in a nice hotel with a decent restaurant and bar that is either in the hotel or close enough walk. I know there are plenty of those in NYC, but are there any near Newark Airport or the cruise terminal? Maybe a 4 or 5 star hotel? Can't seem to find one.

    Thanks

  18. We (4 adults, 4 teens) are cruising on Explorer of the Seas in April with one day in Kings Wharf. Looking for some ideas as to what to do/see, since I hear it will probably not be beach and snorkeling weather. Any suggestions?

We went to Bermuda in May 2013 with 2 adults and 4 twenty-something "kids". Unless it's raining, I would suggest you take the bus to Horseshoe beach. It's absolutely stunning and should be seen even if you can't swim. There are rock formations and hills that the kids just loved climbing, exploring, and taking pictures. You can walk the shoreline from one beach to the other and just take in the beauty while the kids explore all the interesting little rocks and caves. After that, we returned to the dockyard and watched the glass blowing, had some lunch and just browsed through the shops. If you still have time, you could take about a 25 minute walk, or a 5 minute cab ride, to the glass beach which is just outside the dockyard and explore and collect some souvenir glass. This would make a wonderful, easy to do day that I think you would all enjoy. This is what we did and our "kids" said it was their favorite day in Bermuda.

  19. We are cruising from Southhampton in June. We will be arriving in London 3 days before the cruise. At this time we are trying to finalize hotel reservations. Does anyone have any information on Thistle Euston? Good place to stay? Safe area? Any other feedback would be welcome.

I don't have info on that hotel, but we were just in London for a couple of days pre-cruise and we stayed at "The Grand on Trafalgar Square" hotel. Room was typically small, but very clean and modern. Hotel is practically in Trafalgar square which is a prime location for London sight seeing. There is also an awesome pub called "The Sherlock Holmes Pub" directly across the street from the hotel and they had great food and drinks. We arrived in London at 9:30am from the U.S. Hotels normally do not let you check in until 3pm so you can leave your luggage, but you have to go find something to do after a long, overnight journey. This hotel was so nice and went out of their way to find a room that was already cleaned and actually let us check in at 9:30 in the morning! That is a first for us. Highly recommend this hotel. Our ship left from Dover so we took a taxi from the hotel to St. Pancreas station, which is absolutely an incredible station and worth a visit just itself. We got on the express train to Dover and were there in a little over an hour. A taxi from the Dover station to the ship is about 10 minutes.
