  1. I wondered the same thing, always traveling solo, think it was a joke. I do like the Royal class ships and obstr. view balcony cabins on Emerald, they are a good deal.
  2. Thanks for your great thread. I cancelled, sorry I'm not there. Weather looks threatening but I'm sure everyone will make the best of it. Enjoy Halifax, a great port, I've been there several times!
  3. Great post, Pete from someone purchasing Plus. I relate to your comments, even automotive because I worked for VWoA for 30+ years. I had a retiree car program but purchased my Jetta because cars are getting complicated. I'm getting to the age where I might not need a car. I live "downtown", things are close by and bus is 50 cents a ride. I miss the easy life style from my early cruises, stick with Princess because of their employees. I've tried Celebrity a few times, didn't get the vibe I wanted. I'm a proud baby boomer, too!
  4. If I'm not on Emerald deck, I'm on Plaza! I've booked those insides for years, now I go with Emerald for obstr. view on Grand Class, and the balcony obstr. view on Royal class. I don't do the higher decks, I'm always at the IC or Vines, never use the buffet area. Like the previous poster, I try to stay out of elevators.
  5. In the past I've booked 1 cruise, Grand Adventures, however, for my Spring TA/+ 12 day cruise, it worked out better booking separate. My TA was able to get me an obstr. view deluxe balcony on Emerald deck for both. I don't like guarantees and don't want to change cabins. It's an individual preference thing, I've never found the price differences to be huge. I'm paying double, a price bothering one person might not concern me.
  6. I travel alone, only used room service when traveling with someone a few times. I can avoid all this very easily on my Oct. cruise. I ordered the Plus, change out my mini bar for soda I like or water, pre-order bathrobe, anything else I want to talk to my room steward. Being alone, prefer to talk to people, not a screen.
  7. Feel better, still around indeed. Thought I had a sinus infection in April, turned out to be Covid and strep, I was shocked,. Whale watching would be a good thing, do you get dining choices? Thanks for posting, taking it in stride, dealing with it in a positive way is in your healing favor.
  8. I put a bid on a window cabin but noticed there are a few "guarantee" windows on 14. Hoping to get a cabin on Plaza. I probably should have skipped it and stayed with my obstr. view on Emerald.
  9. I'm following along, I'll be on the Regal in April for the TA + this cruise! Can't wait. Thanks for posting the menus, appreciate it!
  10. I'm going on this ship in Oct., looking forward to it. I will say with the older ships, seems like not much middle ground in the reviews. I ignore all comments about food, nothing is going to be perfect for those with great expectations, their standards are too high maybe. I've never had a bad meal on a cruise, some are better than others, but all edible. I sail for itinerary, I've been on the Royal class, too but my last cruise was on Sapphire. I have Regal and Majestic booked, too for '24. If I went by some reviews, I'd stay home.
  11. It's been that way lately, I've been signing in with name and booking numbers.
  12. I think you'll be fine. Just to moved to IA from Wisconsin (15 yrs.) where I had an overdose of the Beer Barrel Polka! I've been on theme cruises and they were fine. Sky is a big ship, polka folks will not dominate every venue. On first Royal Princess, big band cruise, I was 39, dominated everything. I didn't mind, small ship, passengers 60+ and then some, 12 of us under 50.
  13. Thanks so much for this! I have looked at Viking itineraries! Sailing as a single, Princess works for me because of the overall "feel" of the experience. . My 1st cruises with NCL early 80s, then went on Princess mid-80s, what a difference! Awesome, two week big band cruise (Les Brown), I was 39, friend 42, among the 12 "youngest" under 50. Yes, I've seen the changes with Princess and other mass market lines. I might not participate in the activities around the ship, use the pool/spa area but I like signs of life. I tried 2 Celebrity cruises, did not work for me. Can't explain it well but Princess is for me.
  14. 30+ cruises, never seen a roach. However, moved into an apt., 100 yr. old former hotel building. I love it, roaches not so much. With radiator heat, water pipes through all the walls, hard to eliminate them, too many nooks, crannies.
  15. Traveling alone, I eat my bfast, lunch at IC, I avoid the buffet. IC is a good fit, I can find a place to sit, many times others say, you can join us. I like a glass of wine with my salad or sandwich at lunch so IC is easier for that, too.
  16. I'm on the Quebec/FL cruise, leaving mid-Oct., too. My 4th one and a word of advice, layers work instead of lugging heavy outerwear. I've had a warmer than normal cruise, a heavy wet snowfall in Quebec, pouring rain in NYC during my Brooklyn Bridge walk. I've always lived in the Midwest, weather doesn't phase me. A few inches of unseasonable snow in Oct., will not be an every day thing. I like positioning cruises, I don't depend on perfect Fall colors, leaf peeping, with changing weather climate, predicting peak or perfect, nearly impossible.
  17. Once you sit down in a dining room no one notices what's on your lower half. If crew at the door isn't enforcing so called "rules" you're good to go. I wouldn't try shorts on designated formal, just because there is no set following of said rules. I don't care what others do or wear, does not impact me enjoying my cruise. I like to dress up but it just involves a dressier top, nicer pants that I wouldn't wear for smart casual.
  18. Those guarantees are a nuisance. My TA booked my Regal TA plus following cruise separate instead of Grand Adventure. I was able to get the midship deluxe obs., E409, but Princess does not make the process simple. I prefer the deluxe for longer cruises.
  19. I was able to get in today, but it's still been on and off, not consistent. I was able to get my medallion ordered plus booked the time I wanted for dining for my NE cruise in October. Did the same for April Regal TA plus following cruise. Oddly enough they linked my 2 cruises, which was a surprise. To get a certain cabin, booked separate. A work around to get a midship obs. balcony cabin, which were listed as guarantees.
  20. I usually take my lanyard off away from the ship. I've been traveling alone overseas since 1984, land and cruises, I don't worry about looking like a tourist. Pick pockets, thieves, know who to look for and I'm not the one trying to manage a big purse, back pack and packages. I don't shop, rarely carry a purse, my hands are free. Key is don't be a target.
  21. Thanks for this thread, just ordered my medallion for my Oct. 19th cruise. I don't mind a lanyard but the pic of incl. one doesn't look great. Haven't cruised since 2019, so excited! I have several I ordered from a place in Utah, handmade and different colors, I think they'll work.
  22. I was having issues but it seems to be o.k. now, was able to order my medallion for my Oct. cruise plus set up dining. I did it on my laptop, not my phone, using the "try our web version" as suggested.
  23. Caprese sandwich toasted, mozzarella, tomato, pesto, absolutely the best. Ate them very often on my 30 day So. Amer. cruise, got to be a "thing" with those working in the IC.
  24. I use Chrome and still can't sign in, just tried a minute or so ago.
  25. I'm having login difficulties, too. Also when I clicked on my Fall NE cruise, to fill in some info, it took me to my April TA cruise on the Regal. I made sure I was on the right booking but it kept coming up with the Regal info. Definitely frustrating, I'll try again later.
