    Over all this is not a big deal to repair. from what I have seen Capt BJ, the area behind the dent is a aft peak tank. Class approved her sailing as is and the either the Bahamian or USCG signed off on that. Of course they tried to paint her up nice. The final repairs will either be done in the next shipyard period or at a operational port like PC. A prebiult insert will be fabricated. The damaged area will be cut out the insert set in place and welded up. Permission may be given to let them weld up the inner frames and fittings during and after she sails. Class to inspect and approve repairs, Its a long day, but doable.

     

    Frankly there will be much more debate and discussion over the damaged and costs to repair the dock!

    Yep!. It seems there are a lot of tourists still on the islands...The airports are shut down for a good while, so some folks are going to get short cruises. The Port of San Juan opened today, St Thomas tomorrow. I have not heard about other island ports yet........St. Marrten is apparently really bad. If San Juan airport is open I would think that is the nearest the AVI and the other islands, means they will be able to catch any flights set up fast...

    So many 1 st responders are already heading to Florida, they suddenly discovered they had no place to stage them, so Disney opened their lots to stage them and provide other services.

  3. As can be seen with the different lines canceling cruises, They are taking Irma very seriously, and right fully so. The photos starting to come in of Tortuga and St. Thomas show hill side wided clean of trees and vegitation , strong built homes and buildings destroyed. One photo I saw yesterday show a bay fulled with what must have been a 100 pleasure boats and commercial small craft.in the pile and sunk on the beach. The lines concern was not only at sea but hitting Florida. They knew it would do passengers no good to be dumped in port at the last minute and then not be able to leave Florida. The last I heard the Dream and her sister the Fantasy are hiding out south of Cuba, off Mexico. Most likely starting to ease back toward PC.

    Hi Mokis Mommy,

     

    This photo came out when the announced the 2 new ships, so it was before the third was decided on.

     

    The reason I think it is quite possibly this is what the new ships may look like, is if they were just looking to get 6 ships in the photo, they could have just added 2 more of the Dream class. However they went out of their way to add that extra deck, which generally fits the additional 5,000 tons of vessel.

     

    In any case.........time will tell.........I would think we should be getting good info in about a year.

  5. The only clue that is out there is in the photo of 6 vessels, showing 2 of the 3 new ones on the left, in a cloud. You can of course see they have the classic DCL design. However if you take a really good/ close look, you see a short additional upper deck over the forward part of the super structure/ Bridge. The limited size could account for part/most of 5,000 extra tonnage.

  6. The water on the DCL vessels is excellent. We usually bring just a 6 pack of water bottles and refill from the tap.

     

    Unless you want to carry on enough bottles for the trip, which is your choice...............THERE IS NO NEED TO.....AKK

  7. This is going to be a lot of changes with the DCL fleet with a total of 7 vessls. The present 4 vessels are already *Green* ships with most things state of the art/environmentally friendly. Something like all of the items used on the vessels from food waste to paper and cans, only 8 % goes ashore as waste. The rest is all set up to be recycled.

     

    The big change with the 3 new ships is DCL is making the next step in environmentally with the propulsion fuel being liquid natural gas..........about the cleanest thing around for ships. I am also glad DCL did not go to the size of the monster vessels out there now.............I just don't like the look or feel of these things!. I also found it interesting the D 23 people were making a big deal about all kinds of new stuff on the 3 new vessels and new adventures, It should be interesting to see what they come up with.

     

    The classics are in pretty good shape and not likely to be retired by Disney for 10 or 15 years. My own thoughts is that one classic will go to South American and the other to Europe full time One of the Dream or the new class going to the far east.

     

    In any case it will be fun to watch this all unfold.

    BREAKING: Reports of Man Going OverBoard on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

    We are following a developing story of an adult male who reportedly went overboard the Disney Dream cruise ship this evening. Sources are saying that…

    They don't seem to have any details as to *WHY*. However it seems a man went overboard last evening May 4, 2017 and was rescued and was getting treatment in the Dream Medical center.. It was a 4 day Bahamas cruise.

     

    Well done Disney Dream! It is not often a person overboard is rescued alive or even the body found.

    NTSB: Docking Errors, Insufficient Oversight Caused Cruise Ship Allision in Baltimore

Photo: NTSBToo much speed and too steep of an angle of approach is what led to the Carnival Pride allide with a pier in Baltimore Harbor last year, causing more than $2 million in damage, according to a National Transportation Safety Board marine accident brief released Tuesday.

    No fatalities, injuries or damage to the environment were reported in connection with the incident. The Carnival Pride struck the the pier at Cruise Maryland Terminal, South Locust Point, Baltimore Harbor, Maryland on May 8, 2016. Property damage resulting from the allision was estimated at more than $2 million and involved the destruction of an elevated passenger walkway, damage to three vehicles on the pier, and damage to the Carnival Pride’s hull and observation and mooring platform.

    According to the NTSB brief, the Carnival Pride’s staff captain, who was second in command, had the conn of the vessel and allowed the vessel to approach the pier too fast and at an angle too steep. Upon recognizing the situation, the staff captain attempted to shift to manual controls but was unable to assume manual control at the bridge wing station. A Maryland pilot was aboard the vessel but had transferred conn of the cruise ship to the ship’s staff captain for the final approach and docking, per an agreement between the Association of Maryland Pilots and passenger vessels berthing at the cruise ship terminal. Following the changeover, the pilot assumed an advisory role vice giving direct orders for the helm and engines.

In his haste to shift control, he was unable to assume manual control at the bridge wing station, an event the staff captain could not explain. The vessel’s operating company was not able to replicate the failed transfer of control from the joystick mode to the manual mode during testing on subsequent voyages. Thus, the company has been unable to determine a cause other than possible human error.”

    The report notes that the staff captain had previous experience, under the captain’s supervision, operating the controls during berthing maneuvers.

    I agree..........what supersized me was that there were enough bad that the inspection Officer would risk the fall out from the ship being delayed over night. I don't think the line would be qiuk to hold her over night to replace them all .the bad *word of mouth* is never good and it would be easier to get a limited number that day and the rest the next port of call.

     

    The story say *outdoor vest showing their age, which to me means rotted.

     

    While I fully know the inspection Officers have a lot of leeway..( much to me chagrin in the past).......they also know to hold a cruise ship would raise a lot of nasty emails.

  12. You will not believe how often this happens. Although I haven't heard of a major cruise ship getting nailed in a long time.

    It is common that the jackets fail from the sun bleaching the required markings.

    I agree Arthur, it does happen on cargo ships.............my point, like yours, was I would not expect it on a major Cruise Line!

  13. Majesty of the Seas

    Nearly 3,000 passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas woke up Tuesday morning still docked at Port Canaveral. The ship was supposed to set sail Monday night at approximately 5:00 p.m. for a four-night cruise to the Bahamas.

     

    Aged life vests apparently held the ship at Port Canaveral overnight, and passengers were not able to disembark because U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents had already gone home for the evening.

     

    WFTV reported yesterday that “the U.S. Coast Guard conducted a routine inspection of Majesty of the Seas,” said Cynthia Martinez, a Royal Caribbean spokeswoman. “They came across some technical issues, including some outdoor life jackets that were showing their age. We hope to have replacements join the ship today and we expect to address the other issues shortly,” Martinez said. “The ship stayed in port overnight until they arrive.”

     

     

     

    The ship is expected to depart the port sometime Tuesday afternoon.

  14. ALL ships will do some creaking and make noise. This of course is worse during heavier weather and alot depends on the direction/ speed of the wind, seas and the vessels course and speed. You could have a night of very heavy seas and wind, but if the course of the vessel lets her ride better you may not feel a thing. Yet you could have a night of relatively mild wind and seas, but if the vessel course and speed is such that she is riding hard.....you will hear the creaking and noise more.

     

    Those noises, especially the creaking are a good thing, the vessel is flexing, the structural members and other parts of moving .this means they will not break as easily as if they were built ridgedly.

  15. Which Disney ships have a casino?

     

     

    Sorry, but as some have said.no casinos, if for no other reason less noise and crowds and like others, its just another reason we choose DCL.

     

    I am beginning to think you will start finding some other ships without casinos. The profit margins are not as much as some think and there are more and more landslide.

     

    I hope you find another line or ship your looking for.
