Adding to this- I'm based in the Seattle area but went to Alaska on the Quantum last April. We had a custom clearance delay after we docked and the first people off the weren't allowed off until close to 9. We had no rush, but people with early flights who expected to get off at 7:15am were freaking out.

Is a 10:20am doable and are others going to say they made it no problem? Sure. But SEA is a gamble in the heavy cruise season. Some days it's less than a 10 minute time through security, other times it makes the news when security times are over 90 minutes.

Checking in baggage can also be a long wait. I have Sky Priority with Delta and it still took me 30+ minutes for bag drop.

I avoid flying out of here from June-September, take that as you will 🙂

Thank you, it's a May cruise. We are Platinum and have TSA recheck. We're gonna try it.

get ready to put on your flame suit...with that out of the way, I'm an early flight person too (I've made a 9:20 from MCO after disembarking at Port Canaveral 🙂 ).  I've been in the first cab away from the port several times.  I do not find it stressful, I love being on my way while others are still asleep in their cabins.

Do you have status, fttf, or a suite guest that will allow you priority self assist disembark? Do you have TSA pre-check? 10:20 is early but doable.

I did this trip last summer as a plat...I would have to look for sure, but I think the meet up for Plat self assist was no later than 7 am, probably earlier.  Off the ship and in a cab in like 15 minutes. Lets just say 7:30ish.

30 minutes to the airport, mobile check in on the way, drop bags with the airline and head to security.  Here pre-check saves you some time, but is not really a deal breaker, just nice.  Say all of that takes you 1:15, now you are airside around 8:45ish for what is likely a 9:50 boarding time.

That was a lot of words, here are more - if you don't plan to self assist, book a later bird - even early tags will slow you down a lot waiting to get off the ship, then find your stuff, then likely more of a backup at customs, then a crowded parking lot.

Thank you, we are Platinum & have TSA recheck. We're going to try, worst case, we catch a later flight or spend the night in Seattle.

I think it is.    Why end a relaxing cruise by having to rush and stress an early flight?  My rule of thumb is no flights before noon.

With layovers our travel time alone will be11 hours with a 2 hour drive from the airport to home. So, yeah we need to get off the ship ASAP.

Nope, still hot. This was one of our only problems on our two cruises this year, we could not get the temp down to anything we would consider comfortable for sleeping. It was bearable and would approach something acceptable by early morning, but never down to what we would have liked.

Thank you! I remember when the cabins would get so cold my camera lens would fog up when I went out on the balcony with it. Looks like we'll be sticking to all inclusive land vacations.

  5. We haven't cruised in several years because the cabins temps were too hot for us. We're considering trying it again, but would like to know if the situation has improved. We prefer to keep the temp between 65° & 68°. We always book a balcony room & keep the curtains closed to try & help keep it cool but it didn't help.

Please don't respond with "ITS SUBJECTIVE".

So any hot blooded cruisers please let us know if we'd be comfortable. Thanks in advance!

Funny....I have received this info first hand when dealing with an interior cabin that struggled to go below 80 at night directly from an engineer on board when the problem escalated above the maintenance guy they sent first.  He flat out told me that was the problem and went down the hall until he found the offending balcony cabin which he located due to air moving from the hallway under the door.

We haven't cruises with Carnival in a while because we couldn't get our cabin cool enough to sleep. We resorted to sleeping on the Serenity Deck one night. We were told by our room steward & maintenance it was due to people propping their balcony doors open. While that may be part of the cause, I think there are other factors.

I remember when the cabins were so cold my camera lens would fog up when I went on the balcony to take photos. I dont think propping balcony doors open is a new thing. I think its some cost saving adjustment Carmival made.

  7. I'd love to see her in a cabin on the 10th floor in the Caribbean in June with the cabin temp at 78° for a miserable 7 days & be told "it's within acceptable range".

Let's see how she would enjoy having to sleep on the serenity deck because it's cooler than your cabin,

Yes. Usually in the evening it is down right cold in the common areas. You see a lot wearing jacket's or sweaters. This is what I bring on board, every sailing. Alarm clock with temperature that happens to be very accurate. So is the clock which is automatically set via a radio frequency of Greenwich Mean Time

Am I reading this correctly, was your room 80°?

50+ sailings with Carnival. Only once did we have a hot room, wanted to move us to a different room. We liked where we were. They  correct it. I would say not a bad average at all.

The last 3 we took our cabin was hot. We were on the 10th floor, front of ship. After the last one we decided to try something different where we could be cool. Best decision ever, but we're kinda missing cruising, just not willing to be miserable while trying to sleep😊

I first started cruising Carnival in 2007 and here are some of the highlights that have changed after 2010:

    • Guy's Burger Joint - Carnival added a branded venue to all ship's Lido called Guy's Burger Joint which serves complimentary hamburgers at lunch and typically closes around 6pm. There is a toppings station (kind of like a Fuddruckers) by the Guy's Burger Joint. This replaced the old style chicken tenders, homemade chips, and hottdogs that Carnival used to have on the non-branded Lido hamburger line.
    • Blue Iguana Cantina - This is a complimentary line at lunch that serves tacos and burritos.
    • Pizzeria - Carnival changed the Pizzeria menu around the 2012-2013 timeframe. The options for pizza are less. My favorite pizza onboard used to be the pan pizza with all the vegetables, but that is long gone. There are now only 5 or so choices for pizza and the pizza is much more thin compared to the old style. Pizza is not 24 hours right now due to the crew staffing shortage.
    • Lido Desserts - Carnival changed the Lido desserts a few years ago to be more cake/pie based. Different flavors are served each day at lunch and typically flavors are not repeated so if you see something you would like, eat it when you see it. The old style cookies, jello, and 24 hour ice cream are still available.
    • Introduction of Your-Time Dining - Depending on the last time you cruised Your-Time Dining may have not been introduced yet. Traditional fixed time seating is still available. Your-Time Dining allows you to eat any-time in a range of time. After Covid you check in for this using the Carnival Hub App. You may or may not get auto assigned to the same table or waitstaff under this, but if desired can ask the hostess station to see if they accommodate getting the same waitstaff.
    • Carnival Hub App & QR Code Menus -  Since the pandemic a lot of menus (dining room, bar, etc.) are digital. I highly recommend downloading the Carnival Hub App prior to your cruise as it is useful onboard. Some paper menus are still available, but it can take some time for the crew to track them down. The Hub App displays dining info, entertainment info, and more.
    • Daily Activity & Information - The Carnival Capers disappeared around 2010 and became the Fun-Times. After the pandemic this turned into a single sheet What's Happening newsletter and is not delivered to your stateroom. You can pick up a copy at Guest Services or Coffee Bar on the Promenade.
    • Self-Mustering -  The old style muster station drill of having to stand or sit in a muster station at a set time went away with the pandemic. On your first day after boarding you go to your muster station and they will show you how to put on your lifejacket. Overall takes about 5 minutes versus the old style drill which took 30 at a minimum. I like this much more!
    • Embarkation -  You are no longer given your Sail & Sign card upon check-in at the terminal. It will be located in your stateroom door mailbox. Your boarding pass will be used to get you on the ship. This process started before Covid, but has continued even after the shutdown. Also, embarkation now has a Covid test and vaccine check added in besides having to show your passport or other travel documentation.
    • Stateroom Servicing -  Only happens once a day now, but your stateroom steward will let you pick morning or evening. The chocolate mints are no longer given. Also, the old freebie basket that used to be in the stateroom bathroom that had samples of various random products is no more.
    • Since you mentioned you are Platinum I highly recommend printing the email Carnival sends you prior to sailing with the list of the benefits & how to get them. Once onboard they don't deliver anything to your room. You have to go to the Photo Gallery (or other designated location) to pick-up your platinum gift & pin. On cruises 5+ nights the Chocolate Delight is scheduled through room service. Priority boarding is temporarily not available, but platinum & diamond guests get to do online check-in 48 hours prior to everyone else.

This is all I can think of for now and there are probably many other things that I did not think to write here!  I just got off the Carnival Breeze last week and have pictures of all of the various food items in the Lido & Main Dining Room as well as various menus (bar, dining room, etc.) from my cruise. It is on my personal cruise blog if you would like to look at pictures & menus:
    http://www.embarkandaway.com/carnival-breeze-cruise-review-2022.html

I know you are going on the Sunrise which is a completely different ship than the Breeze, but a lot of food served could be similar depending on the length of your cruise as Carnival likes to have a semi-standardized offering across ships.

Do Platinum cruisers still get early access to their cabin?

  11. We stopped cruising with Carnival due to the cabin temps. The last several cruises we took our cabin was like a sauna, we literally went up to the serenity deck in the middle of the night to sleep. Guest services would send someone to check the temp they would point the thermometer directly at the vent and say it's within range. Range is 76° to 78°.

I don't know about most people, but that isn't acceptable to us. When you've been in the sun all day, I want to return to a cool room.

I haven't received this e mail yet.  We have an Alaskan cruise booked for early June, but Canada is not allowing any cruise ships to stop in their port.  I'm not sure why Carnival hasn't cancelled the cruise unless they are hoping for a miracle from the Canadian government.  We will reschedule for a Caribbean cruise in April 2023 and take the $600 onboard credit.  Hoping cruising will be back to normal or at least close to it by then.

We have a May Alaskan cruise booked & same here, radio silence from Carnival.

Could someone please tell me how do I see my FCC when I log into Carnival.

    Thank you.

According to an email from Carnival, it will not show up in cruise manager, it only shows on your cabin confirmation email. Below is a portion of the email.

"Please note this will not appear on your cruise manager however it will reflect on your revised guest confirmation listed under the Itemized Charges as On Board Credits and credits and coupons"
