1. Here's a GREAT idea, How about we ban EVERYTHING on board!!!

Lock the cell phones/cigars/cigarettes/slot machines in a giant locker at the port!!!

you get it all back AFTER your vacation where you have to actually TALK and have a conversation with your family members and loved ones, not to mention you MUST get along with everyone else on board!

    Is that fair??

  2. It's not about a "small ash" appearing on our balcony, although thanks for bringing up the issue that it's also a fire hazard.... But the last time we had a balcony before the change we couldn't use it at all because the people on both sides were chain smokers. I'm allergic to smoke so I couldn't sit out there at all.

Sorry that you are 'allergic' to smoke lovesthebeach2, and that your last balcony cruise was ruined by chain smokers that never left their cabin. Hopefully your next cruise will be much more enjoyable for you.

That being said, on our last RC cruise, when smoking was allowed, we asked our lovely cabin steward for an ashtray and was promptly provided one that was about as heavy as the anchor and in no way could have had an ash fly to your cabin next door. (as it's design was like a bulet; where you ashed & extinguished your cigarette was all enclosed)

I happen to NOT be the idiot smoker that would throw anything off a balcony, (my preferred cabin of choice) let alone something that is a fire hazard.

  3. Holy Crap!!!!... as a smoker (who has quit in the past, so i'm on both sides of the fence) with an upcoming cruise I feel I have to comment on this!!

Number 1 - This rule applies to EVERYONE!!! ....While you may have spend a small fortune to go on this vacation, in no means is the ship JUST YOURS... you have to share it with some people, people who you will probably never see again, or want to see again, but you have to SHARE IT... and you have to DEAL with them!

Number 2 - The casino is the revenue maker for the ship. Ever heard the expression on how you are donating to the cruise line by going to the casino?? It's a "golden" rule that the casinos on ships really don't pay out like land-based ones.

Number 3 - If you don't like to be around smokers in the casino - Go on Celebrity... it's apparent from the other posts here that they offer a smoke-free casino... If you don't want to gamble - Go on Disney - (no casinos) where you will have even more limited places to smoke and in general having been on one I can say Been there, Done that!

Number 4 - What was so very wrong about allowing smokers to smoke on their outside balconies?!?! Oh... I'm sorry if a small ash got on your balcony floor neighbor... I'm sure the wind will blow it away before you even realize...

Number 5 - The suggestion that someone else had about a smoker's bar is a good one... Doubtful that it will ever happen, but good suggestion.

---ready to take my beatings since I still smoke...

  4.
I always make a spreadsheet of our cruise days, expected hi/lo temps and sunrise/sunset. I use something like: http://www.timeanddate.com/sun/jamaica/kingston to figure in the ports (got to Falmouth first, then when I went to sunrise/sunset they moved to me Kingston). This worked really well in Alaska last summer.

Some of my best pics are from between sunset and civil twilight end as once the sun is down the sky colors are usually better!

    Hope this helps!
I was going to suggest the same website... good look and happy planning, and OF course - Have a great cruise!! Enjoy!! :D
And don't stress too much about catching the great one... it will come
  5. We went to Falmouth years ago when the Allure was brand new and we were one of the first cruises to go there - The port wasn't even complete yet! I do not recall any bad experiences and I remember we went a distance from the "gates" and felt safe! - Then again, we are from the "big city" and have our wits among us!! :D

And guess what - This fall I'm going back to Falmouth and I can't wait!!!

The people who are using "scare tactics" are only ruining it for themselves..... go ahead, live in that bubble...

  6. It IS stealing. There's no way around it. No ifs, ands or buts about it.

You realize you could be asked to leave at the next port if you are caught, don't you?

This question has been asked to death, and each time the answer is the same.

    IT'S STEALING.

Hence why I was ASKING the question... (it may have been asked to death, but honestly I don't have time to go thru the 9 BILLION posts on here)

Thank you for the information - my darling mother in law will have to purchase her own glass of wine nightly then... All I was inquiring about!

  7. I can't be the first person to think about this, but is "sharing" allowed?

I'm wondering because on our upcoming cruise we will also be with my in-laws, and only my mother-in-laws drinks maybe ONE cocktail during the day and has a glass of wine at night with dinner...

If I go ahead and get the ultimate drink package for myself, in my stateroom (she is in another stateroom) would I be able to purchase 2 drinks for her a day and hand them off to her??

It's not really stealing.. it's more buying a drink for someone else in my family if anything! :D

  8. Yes, it is believed that all renewals going thru Philadelphia now, or so I was told at my local post office.

Thank you informing all of us that it takes roughly 6 weeks, since we have a cruise booked for November, with passports that expire in September.

I already have it on my to-do list to do next month... so I will not be patiently stalking my postman for my passports! :-)

    Thanks for the tip!

...also, for the person that might go in person to renew - double check with your local passport office, you may have to make an appointment!

  9. Mark - This review is, for lack of a better term - AWESOME!! I have laughed out loud (while at work no less) a few times while enjoying it!! Having been on the Allure during it's first year and have the Oasis booked for this November for my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary, reading this extremely detailed review is making my heart flutter all over again with delight!! :D

The next 159 days can not come soon enough for me.

Thank you for your endless work on giving us all the little ins & outs and especially the Cruise Compasses, it's going to make planning my cruise so much easier!!

  10. Deck - 6

    Cabin # - 252

    Class – D5

Front Starboard, Front Port, Back Starboard, Back Port, Central Park, or Boardwalk - Mid-ship

    Bed near?(balcony or bath) –Bath/closet

Quiet Cabin (With comments on problems. Note if connecting. ) – Quiet cabin, right next to the Hump balconies - Note, our balcony was NOT bigger because of this.

Balcony View - Give comments on view, noting if location of any obstructions or privacy was an issue– As above - next to a hump balcony, so if you looked forward you saw INSIDE the next balcony

Balcony Size? Normal or oversized for class? - Normal

Was wind a problem? Not at all

Any specific problems with this cabin? located in the middle of a bunch of suites, and handicap rooms.

Any other comments? Location was great for the promenade and the boardwalk. Aft elevators close enough that we felt close to just about everything else.

  11. I have this thread bookmarked so I can get back here after my cruise in May. I have a D5 balcony on Deck 6 on the Allure for our cruise in May. We are in a balcony that is right next to the hump, so I am hoping it's a little bigger

I promise to post up some pictures for you when I return, if someone else doesn't "pay it forward" beforehand! ;)
