  1. Wencel, I was also on Nova October 15 to November 18, mid ship deck 9. Overall, it was no worse than on Riviera in January in the Caribbean. The noise on Nova was mainly when the sea was rougher. During the trans-Atlantic we did have more nights that were rougher than others. However, one night in the MDR the noise did seem worse than normal. When the captain gave weather updates, he mentioned the creaking and groaning. I wonder if it will gradually get better as the ship ages and parts that rub together in bad weather smooth out. We'll be on Vista next month. I hope the creaking and groaning of the new ship will not bother DH.
  2. I use them for storing a coat in the upper bin on planes.
  3. I booked Ama for the first time. The ship is Lyra, Paris to Rouen to Paris. I'm concerned about the condition of the ship since it is older and sat used during covid. Will there be any mold smell in the fabric and carpeting in the cabin? I could not find a recent review and would appreciate comments from anyone who has been on Lyra since 2022.
  4. As a frequent passenger on Crystal including the 2022 Grand Voyage, I'm trying Silversea for longer cruises. Crystal prices for a veranda for a solo are ridiculous, and the closet space seems inadequate. My last Silversea cruise was too long ago to compare with today's ships. Looking forward to Nova next month and Moon for a couple of months this coming winter. I hope to see other passengers from previous cruises.
  5. That's good to know. Thank you. Last time on Silversea was before it was sold, and trying Seabourn for the first time next year.
  6. Wasn't sure if the Atlantide menu was available for all stateroom categories. Some cruise lines limit this service to higher categories.
  7. It just keeps getting better and better. Thank you.
  8. Was the lactose free cow milk whole or 2%? I do not want skim or low fat milk. I'll request the milk at the same time as notifying Silversea of food allergies.
  9. Yum! Looking forward to lamb chops! I hope they are on the menu every night on Nova. Is room service in a deluxe veranda limited to the room service menu? Can I get lamb chops in room service during dinner hours? Is shrimp cocktail available in room service between 12 and 5pm?
  10. I always request lactose free whole milk at least a month before a cruise. Some cruise lines are better than others at having it onboard. It's annoying when they bring skim milk, or worse, soy milk. On one cruise line I had to specify lactose free cow milk on the breakfast card. Keeping a sense of humor helps.
  11. Do they have lactose free whole milk?
  12. Are they careful about food allergies?
  13. Is the card system for pre-ordering the night before still used for breakfast?
  14. Does the butler take the order and deliver room service orders in a double veranda or window cabin?
  15. For rooms and suites information, go to the Crystal website. Select a ship. Select "Suites and Guest Rooms." A photo is shown. Under room details there are 3 choices, photos, floor plan and details.
  16. Please accept my condolences for your loss. You are wise to continue cruising. It's a safe and social way to see the world. I've been on about 100 cruises since my husband died. Most were solo. Several comments on this thread have given good advice.
  17. Naples is often overlooked. There are things to see if you have the time. It has an excellent archeology museum. The secret room within the museum, mosaics and frescos removed from Pompeii, and the Etruscan Bucchero pottery are some my favorite areas in the museum. Galleria Umberto was a pleasant, short walk from the ship last time I was in Naples. It's notable in the history of architecture. Go to a hotel on the top floor for an excellent view of the galleria.
  18. Considering airfare, jetlag and a back-to-back discount, I'd do both.
  19. The itinerary changes to eliminate Aqaba for embarkation was due to the difficulty of flying there. Getting from Amman to Aqaba is why I booked the 4 day pre-cruise land package. It was a massive oversight for Silversea to not recognize the logistics problem since they promote fares that include air
  20. I also was stung and stunned by the refusal to honor the lower fare when prices were reduced. Of a 64 day cruise, with 4 segments, 2 of the segments now have lower fares that I can not get. The first segment is on a separate booking. The 15% cancelation fee for port to port is written on the booking document. Taking a15% loss would be less than the savings in the new pricing. However, the hidden terms do not allow canceling and rebooking! The other segment is combined with 2 other segments, and that also can not be rebooked. Port to port pricing was advertised as a way to pay less when air and transfers were not wanted. Why would I want or need air and transfers for all segments on a B2B2B2B cruise? I was not informed port to port was not covered if the price went down, nor have I heard of price reductions not being honored by other 6 star cruise lines prior to full payment. When I asked for the full disclosure, I was sent a link to a file 42 pages long. This situation gives Silversea a very bad image and has an impact upon my choices for future cruises. I expected more integrity from Silversea. Making matters worse, on April 11, 2023 I was notified the first segment's itinerary has changed. 7 of the original 9 ports have changed. Instead of Aqaba to Mumbai, the segment changed to Dubai to Mumbai. Egypt and Jeddah are no longer on the itinerary. Silversea is still working out the details for the 4 day pre-cruise land tour that was supposed to be Amman to Agaba. What a mess!
  21. Most recently Regent Voyager for 7 weeks. Desk area was the same on Navigator and Mariner within the past year. Closet had 3 shallow drawers and 2 deep drawers. There were shelves above the drawers. Hanging space was sufficient for 2 people. I did not use the drawers on both sides of the bed.
  22. The coffered ceiling will not be sufficient to buffer noise. I hope the uncomfortable chairs will have soft fabrics on the backs to help with the acoustics.
  23. Disagree about Regent space. Desk has only 1 drawer and is not deep enough for papers unless stored sideways. Shelves above the desk were removed. Underneath the desk was a refrigerator on 1 side and glassware on the other. I used 1 shelf in the glassware cabinet for papers and laptop computer. Closet has drawers. I used all the drawers. It would be interesting to have 2 people in the room for long cruises.
  24. Luggage forward lost both of my suitcases in mid-March when I disembarked Mariner. Nothing was in the suitcases that would flag them. Eventually both made it to my house, but 2 weeks apart. One bag of clothing was missing. Eventually I was reimbursed for the clothing. I would have used luggage free or just checked them on the plane, but I was lied to and told I could use shipboard credits when I booked them through the concierge.
