  1. Earlier this year we stayed at The Pillars a small and lovely boutique property just across from the Ritz. It has a deck directly on the intercostal do you can arrive by water taxi! There is also a great restaurant calked the Secret Garden. We loved it despite appalling weather which meant we could not take advantage of the pretty though small outdoor areas.
  2. In 2013 we were also 'bumped' off the Shadow in the Far East due to a charter. We had booked flights (using air miles). We were very fortunate to be able to find availability on the following cruise which was the reverse schedule of the one we'd originally booked as well as being able to change the flights. Our TA and SS handled it all very well - all our incidental expenses were met - airline change fees etc- and we also got substantial OBC as compensation as well as a discount on the fare.
  3. We paid $100 inc tip for a limo organised through our FLL hotel in January.
  4. Emtbsam - the jumper arrived safely! Thanks again for your help.
  5. Offering business fares as an upgrade but yes it is selected Med cruises from LHR with prices from £2099!
  6. Have just received a email mailing from SB offering wonderful savings on 'free air' this summer!
  7. Thanks to this CC board and @emtbsam I'm going to be reunited with my sweater! What a great resource this is!
  8. @emtbsam could you post an email address for a direct response? Thanks!
  9. Ah, yet another small difference that makes a difference between SB and SS!
  10. It's very light and small, so a padded envelope would do it. I'm just surprised at the cost .... Maybe there's a kind uk based passenger on board who could take it.
  11. @eastwoodboy - very prescient of you. Such a shame - I've sailed in to Istanbul from both the Dardanelles and the bosphorus with SB and it is such a stunning city to entire by sea. Let's hope that stability soon returns to the region.
  12. Yes, I'm in UK but can't believe it would cost $80 to post a lightweight sweater from US! Really appreciate your offer though!
  13. I was on the west Caribbean ex FL on Silver Spirit in January and left an inconsequential item of clothing on board and was shocked at how much SS wanted to charge to mail it back to me. Any other experiences of lost and found items?
  14. I've booked OB twice and both times had v6 cabins mid ships on deck 6 and mid ships on deck 7. More than happy with the arrangement.
  15. Lapa palace overlooking the Targus river with a Michelin starred restaurant.
  16. Actually the only thing that really disappointed us big time on this cruise was the weather and unfortunately there's nothing one can do about that! It was the worst weather we have ever experienced on a holiday!
  17. Our son came aboard silver shadow in shanghai for dinner. It was smooth arranging it with SS less so with the Chinese immigration authorities which resulted in him hanging around for two hours in the outing rain while they argued about the paperwork!
  18. To redress some of the criticisms on this thread and Kilroyshere's data thread I would add: There is a nice cream station at the lunch buffet. There was a deck bbq and buffet on the first sea day of our sailing. I was looking forward to another but the weather on the second sea day was atrocious. I agree with Keith: the speciality coffee (americano, cappuccino, macchiato etc) was the best I've had at sea and could be ordered in all bars and restaurants. Fresh mint tea was also available. Re lack of fresh fruit and fresh squeezed juice we used to stay in a 5* hotel on the Italian riviera when our children were little. The restaurant had a Michelin star but at breakfast there was tinned fruit and frozen OJ! Go figure - maybe it's an Italian thing! Joanna
  19. I agree with Kilroyshere. I requested and there was no greek yoghurt on board. When I requested berries it took 20 minutes and I got strawberries plus 2 blackberries! I can't understand why the fruit was so poor it was a round trip FLL-FLL. On a positive note the coffee (Illy) was good throughout the ship at breakfast or otherwise. I always popped along to the bar lounge to get my first 'coffee hit' of the day and Jose always knew to make my verveine tea to take back to the cabin (I hate the intrusion of early morning room service).
  20. Keith I do have one other criticism concerning the food - I thought the breakfast buffet selection in la Terazza was poor - particularly the quality of items offered. This hadn't changed from our Shadow experience of 2013. Only low fat yoghurt cartons available, no greek yogurt, no berries (other than strawberries) and a very boring and unchanging selection of fresh fruit. There were also bowls of TINNED fruit - really! The walnuts ran out on day 3 .... No granola either although I noticed it could be ordered off the room service menu. The variety of bread offered was limited and it was all pre cut. I'm very fussy about my breakfast choices! We never ate breakfast in the MDR as it looked empty and sad ... SB definitely wins out here. Joanna
  21. Keith - We forgot to preorder drinks but our butler rustled up an ongoing supply of coke zero without any problem. Best Joanna
  22. MarilynA our butler also obliged daily with our request for San Peligrino, fresh fruit and potato crisps which were regularly replenished.
