  1. no he did not come in my tent. I was in a one man tent and he ripped the top of tent off and got on top of me.I was on my stomach on a sleeping bag and he sunk his canine teeth into my shoulder. He let go for a minute and sunk his teeth in my shoulder again. That's when I decided to do something and started yelling for my nephew in the camper as he had a gun. When he opened the window of his camper he must have startled the bear and he ran off. Every article I have read had a different story and nobody talked to me. I guess tasting bad is a good thing!LOL
  2. I haven't pet a bear but got bit by a bear. Google "Bear attack at Russian River,Ak. 2006.
  3. Also don't forget the Double Musky restaurant. It is a great Cajun themed rest. with great food. No reservations taken so be prepared to wait.
  4. Up in Alaska {and at home} we eat fish tacos frequently. Bite size pieces of Halibut beer battered and deep fried, soft flour shell, shredded cabbage and cheese , black beans, sour cream and salsa. Wash it down with a Margarita. ORGASMIC!!!!!
  5. There is enough to do to fill the day. There are many gift shops, the trolley city tour, salmon fishing at Ships creek { watch or participate}, or enjoy lunch and or dinner at a restaurant, take free trolley to ULU factory, etc. There is a visitors center downtown full of ideas.
  6. On my first and only cruise with MSC Guest Services onboard charged me for 2 dinners in 2 speciality restuarants Which I was to get free. The only answer I got from them was "there must be some misunderstanding" .Waste of time posting on here because the MSC cheerleaders will turn it around and make it your fault. It amazes me how these pirates keep bending some people over but they keep coming back for more. Good luck!!!
  7. I agree with Mountaineer0313. Have spent a lot of time in Cooper Landing and do not recall a car rental place. Years ago someone else asked same question on here and supposedly there was a small rental place but have not seen it. It really is not a town but an area. Great area to go fishing and hiking in. Have a cocktail on the deck of the Princess Lodge. Great view.
  8. I have noticed that travel between anchorage and Seward is a popular concern on this site.Bear in mind that there is only ONE road between them. If this is chosen as your choice ,either by bus or car, you must allow for delays. In the past I have spent many hours waiting for the road to open as a result of an accident. Depending on the severity of the accident determines the length of delay, which sometimes can be quite lengthy. Also there usually is construction occuring which also can be a delay. Another is the salmon runs. When these occur on the Kenai peninsula the traffic can be quite heavy, particularly on the weekends. Not trying to scare anyone but these factors must be considered, especially if you are on a tight schedule. Allow plenty of time to travel and enjoy the scenery as this truly is the most beautiful road in the US.
  9. Thats funny you mention Xtratuffs. That seems to be the boot of choice in Alaska. I was going to suggest them but they are a bit pricey for a one time use .They used to be made in the US but of course now made in China. Supposedly the quality isn't the same. Have had mine for 5+ years and still holding up.
  10. Have been spending summers (and some winters) in Alaska for 25+ years. Bear in mind that the cost of living is higher than down in the lower states. Excursions, food, hotels, etc. are a bit pricey. Also if you need a rental car reserve early as they go fast. You will certainly enjoy Alaska as it is a wonderful state!
  11. Been there twice before on land tours before Covid and was the most interesting country I've been to. Then I went to Thailand in 2020 when Covid just started. Great country. Side trip was Mynnamar and that was the scariest!!! Glad I got these countries off my bucket list.
  12. Was up there for 6 weeks in most of July and part of August this past summer, More than usual rain so the rivers were high. Fishing was a little on the slow side.
  13. On a Disney cruise it seemed like the childrens pool was shut down everyday because of a tyke discharging something. They would dump about 15 gal. of chlorine in it and open it about 4-5 hours later. Not the kind of soup I would let my child swim in!
  14. Another item to consider is the bus depot is in an undesirable area of town at night. Just saying.
  15. If they don't update their schedule how is it possible to check. ThePeople Mover bus stop signs are still present in Eagle River !!
  16. My past experience with the People Mover is that they are not very dependable. I waited for a bus that never showed and found out later the route was discontinued 2 years prior. They aren't very good with updating their online site! Just my experience.
  17. In Bangkok we stayed at the Ramada Plaza by Windham. We did not go to Phuket. We went with a guided tour (Gate 1) and everything was planned. We also went to Laos, Cambodia, and Mynamar (Burma). Best to go on a guided tour as there is so much to see and do. Also we went in Feb. as there is less rain. I envy you as of all the countrys I have visited (many), Thailand was my favorite. Good luck
  18. There is also Glacier Brewhouse and restaurant. which is great. Google them tor hours.
  19. A very good restaurant for breakfast or lunch in Girdwood is The Bake Shop. For dinner there is the Double Muskie which is Cajun themed but also has other fare. If you go a little south of Summit and take the turn off towards Soldotna there is a Micro-brewery and a little further down is a restaurant called Sunrise Cafe. Camped at Summit Lake last weekend and has a great view.
  20. Have never had commercially smoked salmon because I smoke my own. 10th & M in Anchorage specializes in all types of fish. Just smoked about 35# Yummy
