We are on total agreement for a MSC ship ported here in San Diego . not only is the World Cruise Center parking a mess .Anyone with disabilities will find it virtually impossible in that area to board ships . Here is San diego we have close by attractions ,A smaller city & ease to vget arounf vs Los Angeles ,the most populated in the USA with harrowing traffic problems on a daily basis . So why would MSC pick sucjh a convaluted area to sail .We can only hope that t MAC management think San Diego to port a ship . Besides we have a brand new pier they could use & yes lower fuel costs in & out of SD

My DW cousin in Florida told me that rhere are no more AARP gift Cards for Princess ,They been discontinued

Wishing that Celebrity would Port a Ship in San Diego
mcrcruiser replied to mcrcruiser's topic in Celebrity Cruises
They once did .It was the Mercury & we enjoyed many cruises on her . I have a selfish motive to ask because Holland America does port a ship which does the Mexcio vports ,round trip Hawaii & round trip to French Polynesia . Our problem is they run our of handicap cabins evem looking 2 years in advance . We would welcome another cruise line here . We understand that MSC is entrtaining placing a ship on the west coast . SD is sucj a desirable city to visit vs the Los Angeles area & the LA cruise terminal is a huge parking problem . -
Celebrity & Carnival hips once sailed from the San Diego port .In fact the 2 cruise lines ported the ships here in San Diego . Should they return it then gives us more chances of getting a handicap cabin . Both lines imo are good to sail on for longer cruises

Wishing that Celebrity would Port a Ship in San Diego
mcrcruiser posted a topic in Celebrity Cruises
At one time Celebrity ported a ship here in San Diego to do the Mexican Cruise ports ,Hawaii & they could explore other Pacific Ocean regions from San Diego . Personally ,we would welcome a Celebrity ship here in SD -
We got one reply on the MSC board about the cruise cline entering the west coast market.
-
Ttoo bad because the Would Cruise center in Sam Pedro is a real night mare to park & navigate . This is why Carnival built a parking garage & sails from Long Beach which is not that far from the World Cruise Center
-
You asked . We just posted on MSC board if they will dock a ship here in San Diego .Celebrity once did as did Carnival deploy a ship here in San Diego which gave more choices . Just asking to see if we can cruise with my scooter in a assessable Handicap cabin on alternate cruise clines . We like HAL as we did Celebrity & Carnoval when we were able to sail those ships from San Diego . It was very convenient for us as we live 30 miles from the SD port
-
Seems to us MSC is a very large cruise line & wondering id they will or did consider porting a cruise ship in rhe San Diego port ? There are many Pacifi c ocean cruises that can be done from SD

We understand other peoples points of view on this issue . Should it ever happen that you need mobility assistance plaease remeber this discussion . The bottom line was with HAL personnel asigning a vista suite & telling me my electric scooter of 21 inches will fit , It was just too close tp the entry foor & walls cin the cabin where as the real handicap cabins have wide doors which are also automatica;;y controlled & very adequate space When it comes to a real emergency in any location ,it seems to me that there are those people who care & make the effort to assist others & there are those who only think about themselves . This has been evidenced numerous times in history . There truly is not any more to say about this subject . Perhaps some future generations will find things different that what is now the norm

Ervhave taqken over 100 cruises in the past when we were able . We never saw wheel chairs unattended in the hall ways .We have seen empty food trays from time to time
-
Personally We have had too many issues using these gift cards . It is importnt to remeber that they can only be used on Holland america cruises . If you cancel the cruise the money is placed back on the gift card by HAL . Then you must reuse the gift card money on another HAL cruise .There are NO REFUNDS for Gift Cards

according to doctors if you live long enough you can get arthritis & arthritis will present mobility issues .Thus ,a great percentage of aging people will have mobility issues
-
Again they have that special training & supervision .. It may even be a US Coast Guard requirement in order for any cruise ship to sail in US waters like Alaska , West coastal ie /The 12 mile limit is still US waters
-
Crews are trained for emergencies all the time on all cruise ships . It is not a extra cost but a must have trained crew .
-
We try all the time to book early ;however , even 2 years out we can not find a handicap cabin , Our main difficulty is that we can no longer fly yo a port ;because if we could like we did at one time ,we would not have a problem .We now can only cruise from San diego which is 30 miles from home . imo , some day & we do not yjoink it is that far in rhe future ,all cruise lines will need to mke adjustments to the aging populations ;because with aging comes mobility problems for many people . In reality ,we can do a land trip ,so we may just have to not cruise . We can only hope for others sake that the cruise lines do add more electric scooter assessable cabins .
-
Oh pardom me but they use USA ports & are allowed only because they adhere to USA laws . Handicap issues have ADA laws in the USA .
-
Certain designed scooters support certain body weights safely . not a good idea to own a fold up scooter that can not safely hold the riders bogy weight because soon there will be a accident .
-
please read that those entry doors are 23.5 inches wide ,when the door opens in takes space . Thus ,how can a person comfortably drive the scooter into those cabins ? when we have a veranda handicap cabin the entry door is very wide & i could drive into the cabin & if fact turn it arounf in the cabin to face the front door for a future exit . If the cruise lines had wider entry doors 7 a alcove to parj the scooter near the door with a electric outlet ,they would generate more sales imo
-
bsolutely correct . I also recommend a rear view mirror . That mirror on my scooter allows me to back out of a elevator on the ships safely . Never drive faster than you cancontrol your scooter at all times . You are the responsible party not the people walking . HAL lost the $10000 cabin cale for the vista Cuite because the entry door was never designed wide enough to allow a scooter to enter comfortably , Then a parking place *alcove is good with a power out let . imo if HAL & other cruisecl ines would do this by adding cabins to allow scooter entry & still the same regular bathrooms they would sell more cabins .
-
Unfortunately we had to cancel a Vista Suite on koningsdam .when HAL afent booked it ,he daid my scooter would fit . My Scooter is 21 to 21.5 Inches wide os my best meaurement because the metal tape bens .It is 40 inches long & weighs about 100 obs when we looked at the entry foor opening c it is 23.5 inches wide . I am a large person so naturally I was concerned anout manuerability into the deposit area whenre the couch us locates .The couch would have to be removed & that was not the problem .We couold not chance not getting into the cabin with the scooter & then getting back out . .We espressed this to the Accessability dept as did the VP of our TA . Because we couls see a huge problem we cancelled that cabin for iover $10,000 on the 18 day Hawaii cruise The point hare is HAL should adjust some cagins on new builts to be able to let people cbring in the svooter through a wider doot & charhe it . Many od us hasndicap people do not need a roll in shower ,We can use standard shower & toilet . what we can;t do is walk long distances on the ship / Yes ,imo there is a great need for this kind og handicap type cabin & the population is aging .In my case the cruise lie lost a $10000 + sale

Back when there was the service provided the cabin attendant helped . Seems to us that this service is not taking up a great deal of time not space, additionaly ,we got this service back when gratuities were far less than what is paid in todays crusing world . We never saw scooters left in the public hallways . Yes that could be a problem of safety . All we ask is empathy of the cruise lines & they would sell those empty cabins netter if the helped the handicapped
-
We are having a very hard time to be able to get a handicap stateroom on Koningsdm for the Hawaii cruise Jan 28 ,2025 as it seems they are all sold out . However , wht can't we book a standars Neranda & the cabin attendant take our electric scooter in the evening to charge it & bring it back in the morning ? Seems to us then the cruise line could sell more cabins . We do not need completely accessable bathrooms ? Thanks in advance for replies

We do believe what you posted about ships not being in HAL's fleet any longer . when it comes to any foreign port except most American ports dangers could exist because the port dangers just pccured & there was no time to notify people . Imo we are living now in a more dangerous world here & abroad .Thus ,there is really no safe travel .
-
We just got a very disappointing HAL accessability department follow up . Even our TA was astonished at the lack of care .Thank God we were still before any fees . when you place q $1200 deposit based on information that cabin Vista suite B8101 on Koningsdam can accomodate my 21 inch wide electric scooter through that entrance doorway & if that did not work we would not be able to get help aboard the ship .
