  1. We have Christmas and New Year booked on the Azura. Was hoping things would be ok by then but it’s looking unlikely! We have actually now booked the same cruise for next year as an insurance. The cruise was almost booked up, and we knew it would be difficult to get 2 cabins next to each other on C deck the day of the announcement of cancellations. We were meant to be on Ventura in December last year but that got cancelled as the ship had issues! Maybe it will be 3rd time lucky!
  2. It’s interesting to see what other cruise lines are doing. I follow the Celebrity Edge Captain, Captain Kate McCue on Instagram. She has posted a lot of photos and videos of the crew enjoying the ship whilst it’s empty. They have also given them all cabins to stay in until further notice! (Hashtag #JustCrewIt on Instagram if anyone uses it) I guess the difference is the Edge is at anchor Nassau, P&O are sending all back to Southampton! Bit of a change in weather. I really hope P&O are letting their crew do something similar!
  3. My Mum and sister are on the Britannia at the moment on a 2 week Caribbean from Barbados. At last minute they upgraded from an inside to a balcony in case they were quarantined. No-one in Manchester airport was wearing masks, and some of the locals in Barbados had not even heard of Coronavirus! My parents are on the Oceana in July doing the Malta/Italy B2B and they are getting concerned what will happen with that one. Got my fingers crossed that things will be calmer by December in time for our family xmas cruise on the Azura!!
  4. I think maybe on other lines (with more American PAX) they are overly friendly, as it is the American disposition to tip anyone who does anything that is slightly above the ordinary. I was sat at the (amazing) new Tiki Bar- The Bamboo Room on the Navigator of the Seas in April. The bartenders were fantastic, and i noticed all Americans would tip them a few $ every time they made a drink. I don't go this far, but i will give the staff who have gone above and beyond to make my trip special an extra tip at the end of the cruise. One of the most notable "Above and beyond" as on the Celebrity Reflection a couple of years back. One of the bartenders overheard my Dad talking about how on Princess you could buy buckets of beer for round the pool. The next day, my Dad was sat sunbathing, and said bartender from the previous evening appeared out of no-where with a bucket of ice with a few bottles of corona and some lime! Now this trick worked, as we kept going back to his bar (Sunset bar, aft if anyone is familiar with it) and he got a nice tip at the end of the cruise!! As highlighted by the removal of the gratuities on P&O, it has become known that most (not all) Brits do not tip. And its nothing to do with being rude, its just culture. American waitstaff get paid peanuts, and rely on tips. That mentality is then taken on holiday with them and they continue to tip everyone they encounter, as they would back home. For cruise staff on a British ship, it would be a lot of unrewarded effort to go over the top for no real return. There are some anomalies to this rule! There was a fantastic head barman in the Crows Nest on the Britannia, he recognised us every night and ensured we got good seats and served quickly. He also dealt with a query we had very quickly. (My Mum asked them to change the brand of rum in her Mojito from dark to white rum... to the bar staff this was the end of the world, but it was dealt with by their manager). Maybe they are told not to deviate from recipes etc for cost, but it was such a simple request!
  5. So I have cruised on Celebrity/Princess and RCI before I tried P&O which in hindsight was probably the wrong way round! Seemed to spend the cruise comparing to other lines. Come to the conclusion now that it’s in a different league and to take it for what it is! Things which I think are attainable for them to do: - Allow people to sit at bars and drink. We found this really odd. Even if the bar was empty, they make you sit down and wait ages for them to serve you! And we quite like sitting round the bar as it’s sociable! - Get rid of the Costa and just put a normal coffee shop in there. It’s a gimic and they won’t let you have more than one cake with your drink! I’m not greedy, but on Celebrity they practically beg you to take more than 1 each! it would also be nice to have alcoholic coffees on a night but it closes early! - More choice in the buffet. I find the offering incredibly limiting compared to other lines. Especially in terms of salads and fresh fruit. Things you can’t change: - How unfriendly the staff are. Never experienced staff as unfriendly as I did on the Britannia, 2 years apart! I could go on and on, but I’ve come to realise we book P&O for the price and destinations, not necessarily the ship! I wouldn’t keep booking them if I didn’t enjoy it!
  6. I feel your pain (albeit slightly less money at stake) I booked on the Symphony last year, and literally the next day they changed the perks to include drinks packages. I rang them up to see if they could do anything, but they could not. And this was 9 months in advance. The cruise was the same price as well. Its not like they had raised it to make it seem like a good deal. Its very frustrating that if you book from the US (and possibly other countries) that you can swap and change until the payment date. The only way around it is to book on board. My parents did that with Celebrity and now have a few "cruise credits" (as they like to call them) that they can use and change as many times as they wish.
  7. Ok so some Americans I have heard- either vloggers or my own family, call pasta “noodles”. I also know lots of Americans that call pasta by their proper names! It wasn’t meant to be a sweeping statement so sorry if it came across as one!
  8. Another fellow Brit. I believe Americans call any pasta “noodles”. I often hear Americans call penne/tagliatelle noodles. But yes, chilli with kidney beans! Spag Bol goes with “noodles” 😂 Which in our house is Chilli but without the chilli power or beans, but with the addition of mushrooms 🇬🇧
  9. I was on the Adventure a few years back and my sister slipped on some water in a bar and sprained her ankle. Before they even did any scans/provide her with any relief, they took photos of her shoes (mid wedge heel). I don't know if they thought we were going to sue them, but it seemed the wrong way round to do things? She was on crutches/wheelchair for the rest of the cruise though. The water was their fault, but they would most likely have blamed the heels if we had taken any action
  10. Thanks for the info! I think we may stick to the slides. I do love a good water slide. However now the Navigator has the mat slide and aqua coaster I may reconsider. Still plenty of time to change my mind another 11-12 times before I go
  11. Oooh I’m going to the aqua park when I visit on the Navigator in April. Are you doing the slides, zip lines or both? We have just the water slides booked, but are tempted to switch to just the zip lines.
  12. I’m visiting Roatan next month on the Navigator. Going on a trip with a local tour guide so I need to make sure I stick to ship time! 😫 She has said she will get us back at least 2 hours before the ship sets sail...unless she means when the ship sails in ship time? Uh oh
  13. Awesome photos- I can’t wait to board next month! You don’t happen to know whether you can take go pros on the water slides? I saw some footage of the riptide and it would look awesome in my holiday video. I don’t know whether they just allowed it for media or whether anyone can use go pros on it. I know you could on the Abyss on the SoS also I am so happy about that late night grub. I see my favourite pumpkin cheese rolls!!! And those burgers after many drinks won’t taste that bad 💁🏻‍♀️
  14. I’ve not sailed Brilliance (or that class of ship). I think it depends what you are after! Reflection is a gorgeous ship. But if it’s the ports you are really interested in, I would go for the one with the best itinerary!
