  1. This was great - it will take us forever to get from Classic to Select (80 points needed) but we're determined! Thanks for the hints on the sneaky questions 🙂
  2. And last April we were so certain our March 2021 cruise would sail because it was so far out. So sad that it's not likely - a whole year of being unable to sail. It was just too "TBD," so we cancelled a month ago and rebooked for 2022 - Lift and Shift was more like Lift and "Shaft" in our case, and we wound up getting a better deal than we would have for 2021 thanks to our agent, who did all the work. Going to try an AI instead - they seem to be doing a good job, at least in Mexico. Without some sunshine in the winter we will go mad.
  3. You guys are the best, the very best! Thank you!
  4. Thank you - to rephrase, if I'm looking for bed by bath I just find a cabin with a square or rectangle? Sorry, addled brain 😉
  5. Hi there - This map has proved elusive online but I know it exists bc I've found it in the past. Can someone be so kind as to share the link? Thank you!
  6. I really cannot believe what a total cluster this is. We moved our 3/21 Silhouette cruise to Edge for 3/22 at a premium, even though the cabin itself was kind of a downgrade. We love Silhouette but were excited for another Edge cruise, esp at 10 nights. Reading the threads and the X FB group I learned of this change. Our Edge cruise on the X site is now Silhouette. Neither we nor our travel agent have received notification which is absolutely unacceptable. I've asked the TA to get things updated as it seems it may be for less money, and to secure our cabin. But then I go into the X site, our Edge cruise is still on our Cruise Planner. AND, a notification popped up that we have a $50 credit, so I went to book a beach excursion and the site wouldn't let me book. Refused to add it to my cart. I just cannot believe there was no notification. The biggest issue is cabin selection and many cabins were already blocked off. But then to throw the credit in my face and have me go through the options and then not let me book - I don't really have time to waste..... Frustrating.
  7. Of course - Secrets Akumal.....mmmmm.....swim up rooooooooms......
  8. We couldn't deal with the uncertainties as the minute the weather starts getting cold, and winter is in view, we need to start dreaming about our March vacation. We cancelled, rebooked for 2022 (Lift and Shift was a major downgrade for us), and are booking a splurgy AI in Riviera Maya - the splurge because - #2020. We are really sad because we want to support the cruise lines, we want to bring funds to the ports, but we also need to consider our own mental well-being. That being said, the AI is dreamy and we're very excited about it.
  9. We cancelled our March 2021 cruise bc the not knowing is getting too frustrating. And we don't want to compromise our experience, i.e., shortened cruise, change of ports, cruise line only excursions, etc. We rebooked for 2022 (Lift and Shift was a downgrade), and are going an AI instead. We feel relieved that we made a decision and actually have something less ambiguous to look forward to.
  10. Okay, quick service here. You know New Englanders are really passionate about their lobster rolls so everyone has a different, passionate opinion. We prefer our lobster in Maine so we don't have an opinion about CT. But here are some our friends have suggested around Mystic. Check them out online to see if atmosphere is what you're looking for. - Latitude 41 - Seaview Snack Bar - Ford's Lobster - Dog Watch Cafe - Engine Room Also if you like oysters and would consider a ~30 minute drive to Matunuck, Rhode Island, highly recommend Matunuck Oyster Bar. During the summer it's impossible to get a reservation! Great menu, and if you get a seat on the water, even better. Afterwards you can drive down to Matunuck Beach for a walk on the sand. Another place we love - for oysters - but not as awesome as Matunuck (they have their own oyster farm) is the Bridge Cafe in Westerly, RI. Stay away from the Mystic Diner. The food is terrible! And have a wonderful trip!!
  11. Sorry - Duplicate post! Well, we finally cancelled our 2021 cruise bc the Lift and Shift (or Lift and ShAft as I now call it) only offered us a downgrade - even though the identical itinerary was available moving us from S Class to E Class. They wouldn't even consider it. Whattttt. We're excited about an AI in Mexico. Our TA is amazing and also a friend of 20+ years and we thoroughly trust her. She's with an excellent consortium. She's made a few recommendations that we're reviewing. She says Mexico is doing an excellent job re: cleanliness, distancing, etc. Currently at 50% capacity. We're not huge drinkers - I can get down 2 a day to my husband's 6 - but since we work full-time, it's going to be cold here as usual, and we absolutely love pools and the ocean - and not having to plan where to eat and drink (no reservations required at these resorts), it will be a nice alternative. The entertainment isn't a factor for us as long as we have a beach. We will miss our annual cruise but limitations to cruise-run excursions kind of sealed the deal for us - we'll tour here and there but grabbing a cab to a gorgeous beach and swimming, snorkeling and reading are our vibe and we don't need to pay the cruise line to get us there. I'm loving reading all your plans, whether it's staying home and appreciating what you have in place, or how you're adapting your travels, cruise or not, remembering that if this is the toughest problem we have right now we are very fortunate!

  13. Following up on a few days of frustration - We are still stumped as to how X could "suggest" we move our 2021 reservation from S to M class, different itinerary, and not receive a partial refund, more OBC or an upgrade. YET, when our wonderful TA suggested they move us into into downgraded cabin on Edge Class for the identical 2022 itinerary, that wasn't in any way an option, not even for more money. There's plenty of availability. So, we had no choice but to cancel. We're glad not to have to worry about the state of the cruising world for some time, sad we won't be on a cruise, and disappointed in X for thinking we would downgrade a cruise we booked 18 months out. That's not a comparable "shift." Happy for those who were successful and were pleased, but feel like it was a "shaft" instead of a "shift" when a viable option was so obvious. Happy Sails to all our fellow cruisers. We'll be at an AI instead.
  14. Why do you think Mexico won't happen? Due to your own concerns or due to resort issues?
  15. We're in the throes of deciding if we should do the March '21 cruise we have been craving desperately instead of unappealing lift and shift options. We were on the Silhouette last year when everything changed. It caused us a lot of anxiety. While we really really really want this cruise to happen, and while we are healthy, cautious, etc., the thought of a possible quarantine due to others possibly not being as stringent is what has us conflicted. Agree with poster above sharing how much more we know about the virus, how much better we can treat it, how much better we are avoiding it, but again, what would that mean in terms of quarantine? Not to mention that politics and other factors keep us from truly having a handle on possible vaccine. We have jobs to get back to (also family, friends, cat) and a two week quarantine, or perhaps being locked out of our state, would be inconvenient at the least. We know we are not alone in feeling stuck between a rock and a hard place in terms of this decision.
  16. We're looking at DR too, if Aruba doesn't work out. That pricing sounds way more reasonable too, although the Aruba AI was spectacular and only 75 rooms. What a great deal!
  17. I'm finding a number that have committed to reduced capacity - definitely the key. We found a small AI on a port stop last year that has our eye for sure. Staying on property is like staying on the ship, no biggie....
  18. Haha thanks for the laugh on this miserable day. We discovered a small AI while on a port stop last year - 75 rooms. Thinking of something like that. Yeah maybe it's time to you to stop cruising for a bit LOL! PS - We're in CT too.
  19. And we’re being directed to do just the opposite! Good for you though - enjoy!
  20. If you live in a cold climate, a winter cruise to the tropics can help keep you sane. If the virus has you skipping this winter’s cruise, are you still getting away? Or sitting tight by the fire? If we decide to change our winter plans, we’re considering a direct flight to an all-inclusive. Not sure where yet. Flying for a few hours, masked and shielded, doesn’t concern us. We don’t mind masking when needed on vacation and we’d spend most of our time outside. The tenuous status of our sailing has us thinking we need to book an alternative sooner or later. We work full-time and it’s cooooold here. What are you all thinking?
  21. Update from OP - went to the L&S self-serve site (thank you) but had the same downgrade choices as were stated on the phone. Going to watch the debates and get even more frustrated now. But I have wine!!! Will advise if TA makes magic.
  22. Yes we are on it, thank you. I just sent our agent, per her request, 2 acceptable alternative options hoping that she either has different choices as a non-wholesale agent or can negotiate. I broken down the costs and compared cabin sizes, etc., and Millennium is not only a downgrade it's a loss. I'm going to try the self-serve option now. Appreciate all your constructive suggestions, you are all the best and we're all in the same "boat" to some extent! Thank you and fingers crossed,
