  1. That’s a solution everyone can live with , I assume . And you get a free tour of the western part of the Netherlands 😊
  2. This is called a Bossche bol . As it comes from the town of ‘s Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) in the Netherlands. If you are ever there, go to Bakkerij Jan de Groot on the Stationsweg . Friend and foe agree , he makes the best ones. Sorry to say , but what they serve onboard doesn’t even come close imho.
  3. I browsed thru the topic list before posting , but must have missed it …
  4. I just saw on Twitter that the Rotterdam will arrive and depart from her homeport Rotterdam on July 24 and 31 . So she will not go to amsterdam ☺️, as scheduled. This is due to unexpected work on the locks at IJmuiden.
  5. We are boarding the Zaandam in Rotterdam next week . Hope the measure is still in place. I never stopped wearing a mask in stores or other busy places, so I won’t be alone doing so for a change.
  6. Thanks for the tip ! I’m going to pack our mesh hats since we’re getting on the second leg…
  7. Luckily the ship has an overnight in Rotterdam, as it is much nicer than amsterdam 😉
  8. Great , thanks. We are coming onboard in Rotterdam for the second leg. Speaking of Rotterdam, I did a presentation on things to do in Rotterdam in a Zoom meeting for our other upcoming TA in October, if anyone is interested mail me : jaap (at) jaap (dot) la and I will send you the pdf.
  9. The Arison family have always been it for the money. I really don’t think they will protect anything else but their own pockets.
  10. I recently took an upsell( 249 euro pp) for a 14 day cruise on the Rotterdam from a Verandah to a Vista ( 6120) . Would do it again . I liked the layout of the cabin better than the Verandah (bed closer to the balcony).
  11. Called the office after final payment to have the ticket " printed" , 5 minutes later I could select my seats on Delta.
  12. I got this map from a friend of mine who recently got off the Rotterdam and was following her next cruise. Last Monday she sailed in the Norwegian waters and seemed to be heading east towards Stavanger when all of a sudden she went north . The HAL recently had quite a bit of itinerary changes… but also at sea ? Just curious ifanyone knows about this rather peculiar change of course.
  13. We were on the Rotterdam recently and the One Step Dance Company was fabulous . I never cared much for the HAL singers and dancers since , imho, they couldn't sing..
  14. If you don’t use it and wait 4 years it will be automatically refunded. According to some it’s it about the same period they had to wait for their “ covid” refunds….. Not me btw, no complaints there.
  15. Booked flights early june thru FE for flights in august. Called the Rotterdam office yesterday and asked the agent to print to the tickets so I could book the seats (not on the FE website but directly with Delta) . Within 5 minutes I could book the seats. So , I had a good experience with FE . Now let’s just hope the flights are not canceled….
  16. Same in the Netherlands, the Rotterdam office is understaffed. I was on hold for about 1 hour, but the agent was able to do what I asked for : print my airline tickets so I could get my seats . She told me they are trying to get more agents , but like most businesses in the Netherlands who are looking for staff , a difficult task. Makes you wonder where everybody went ….
  17. A no brainer : Spitsbergen any time! We did this cruise on the Prinsendam in 2017 . Still #1 .
  18. That’s sad . Hope you get better soon and be able to book a new cruise.
  19. That’s exactly my point … we are all adults , have lived thru two years of Covid measures and now we have to be told to wear a mask… All over the ship there are signs : masks recommend. What about being responsible people…. ??
  20. We were on the 14 day Jewels of Scandinavia, may 8-22 . There were only 1400 pax onboard, so no service issues. On the other hand , you’re being served your breakfast, lunch and dinner, your cabin is being cleaned, every crew member is friendly etc. , so why complain if , sometimes, something goes wrong… Concerning the masks, I think it’s a shame people do not take more responsibility. We wore masks most all of the time. We don’t like it , but getting covid even less. You just know if you’re in a more or less enclosed space with 1400 others who cough, sneeze ( and not always in their elbow…😳) , and don’t use the hand sanitizers that covid or another virus is having a great time. And what if the cruiselines have to start canceling again ? Who’s fault is it then ? I really hope people will stick to the rules concerning masks also for the sake of the crew.
  21. I usually make a print screen and send em either by mail or IMessage to someone back home would love to have the same choices for his dinner….
  22. On our recent Rotterdam cruise you could just ask for ‘em and they were brought to the table.
  23. We did 26 knots on the Zaandam as well in april 2019 , from FLL to Boston. The captain made an announcement back then saying that due to a favorite wind and current it felt like steering a speedboat.
  24. Check in in amsterdam for our 14 day Scandinavia cruise had 4 and 5 star priority lane.
  25. On our recent Rotterdam cruise we had : turndown service chocolates and towel animals on Gala night late night Lido Buffet crew smiles
