  1. we did Cloud 10 day RT from Ushaia in Dec 2019. Would not hesitate to go to Antarctica in December again. The weather was wonderful. Saw so much wildlife. No chicks, but plenty of penguins, seals, whales, orcas, etc Love the Cloud!! perfect size for this trip. Next time hope we can work South Georgia and other areas into our trip, but the 10 days to the peninsula were wonderful. Be sure to kayak if you can - it was a wonderful experience. no matter what you choose, you will have a wonderful time. FYI - we thought it would be a once in a lifetime trip but are already trying to figure out when we can go again
  2. what "luxury" line you go on may depend on what itinerary you choose. We sailed Silverseas to Antarctica in Dec 2019 and loved it. Being an "exploration" cruise, only had about 200 pax. If going to Antarctica, highly recommend Silverseas. It was much less expensive than similar cruises on Nat Geo, Lindblad, etc and we felt truly pampered. The guides/naturalists were awesome, crew very attentive, and we want to go again. Even self-serve laundry was included. Wanted to book something special for our 30th anniversary next summer. Decided on northern Europe. Could do back-to-back on Celebrity for about $1500 less per person than Silverseas for similar 18 day itinerary in an Oceanview cabin for each. In pricing looked at value of SS incl airfare (we chose to upgrade to business class), one excursion per day in most ports, an extra day in one port, and just being on one cruise vs B2B, and a larger cabin on SS. Decided to go with SS. Ship has about 600 pax, plenty of entertainment, most restaurants included (we never pay for specialty - live in an area with great restaurants so don't pay extra on board), and the itinerary just seemed better. After this trip will decide if we think SS is worth the extra $$.
  3. get tests ahead of time and see what comes out. You may be lucky and test negative.
  4. I will be in Flam this time next year!
  5. I was just going to ask about that. My cruise in Nov - Dec 2021 says Maui (Kahului) - any info on that port? Still in a walkable area? Other ports we are looking for things to do are Kona and Hilo.
  6. good question. We are looking at buying an Allianz annual plan because 4 cruises planned in the next year. Hadn't thought about this.
  7. I was on Silver Cloud in Dec 2019. The wifi worked fine for email, posting pics to FB, and similar. DId not try to stream. I was actually surprised how well it worked - only one day in Drake passage on way back was it "iffy"
  8. My TA gives an option of cash back vs OBC. We always choose the cash back but don't feel guilty if we spend it all on the cruise. I have RCL stock and would love the additional OBC on SS. There are lots of ways to spend it from spa to gift shop, excursions, etc. Maybe they will have it available before our next SS cruise in Aug 2022
  9. thanks for all the awesome info on cruising Galapagos. We are on Xploration in January. I am buying my husband a dry bag for Christmas now for his camera equipment so excited!! My sister had to cancel a cruise last minute due to a medical issue. She had booked on Chase Hyatt card and got everything refunded very quickly we have 4 cruises booked in the next year and I am putting them on Chase Hyatt or American Citibank cards and we will also buy an annual travel insurance policy- the ones from Allianz right now include a Covid rider so think that is the best choice for now. With the way the world is these days and elderly parents, we have a very high risk of needing to change plans last minute.
  10. thanks!! we are on Silver Moon for 18 days in Aug 2022 and really looking forward to it.
  11. I believe the question was whether to leave items IN ADDITION TO CASH Depending on itinerary, crew can't get off, so I think some small items would be appreciated. If your crew member can't use it, they can pass on to someone who will.
  12. wow - will have to follow this we are booked for January
  13. wow - that has gone up! but still may be worth it if your 2d person paid $500 for the cruise, you could maybe get someone to pay $300 ($250 change fee and $50 to your 2d) and everyone gets a good deal.
  14. We did this once and it worked great. My daughter decided not to go so my other daughter got a friend to go instead. Much more flexible than the airlines.
  15. Thanks for all the good info I booked the cruise yesterday!! So looking forward to it.
  16. thanks everyone! it all sounds great I have to do one more run through but think SS will be our choice for this trip.
  17. Thanks Stumblefoot!! a few more questions occurred to me - What is dress like for dinner? Does my husband need a suit and tie, or will a sport coat and dockers be ok? we have primarily done more casual cruises where he wears dockers and a polo to dinner, but seems SS is a little dressier. For 18 days, presume 2 formal nights? What kind of evening entertainment should we expect?
  18. Looking to book a 30th wedding anniversary cruise for summer 2022. Have found similar itineraries on Silverseas and Celebrity for northern Europe and Norwegian Fjords. Silverseas is slightly more expensive, but not a lot (factoring in flights, incl excursions, etc) In 2019 did Celebrity and Silverseas (Silver Cloud) back to back (16 day LA - Chile on Celebrity then 10 days to Antarctica on Silver Cloud) Both were great and a big difference from Carnival (prior cruises mostly to Caribbean with the kids). I didn't see much difference in the quality of food between the two, the rooms were pretty similar, service on both was great. Since Antarctica is not a typical Silverseas cruise, and we only had 200 pax vs 600, wanted to hear more about what we should expect on the Silver Moon. What is available to do on sea days? we love trivia, but some lectures on the ports & history would be nice. What kind of evening entertainment? How is the gym (hubby likes to workout)? is there a walking track (gotta earn my desserts)? Is dining assigned or all open seating? Are all dining options included or are some an extra charge? Is there a self-serve laundry (on Silver Cloud there was a convenient laundromat; 18 days so helps if I can wash clothes)? thanks for any info you can provide to help me decide.
  19. Has anyone done this cruise tour? or part of it? I am trying to find out more about the land tour portion. Considering booking for summer 2022. Never been to Alaska and want to include Denali. Also always wanted to see this part of Canada. https://www.celebritycruises.com/itinerary-details/18-night-18-night-ultimate-alaska-and-canada-combination-southbound-from-seward-alaska?packageID=ML18C218&sDT=2022-09-03&cCD=CT What did you like best? What could have been improved? How much time was on your own? About how many meals did you have to get on your own vs included? any insight appreciated.
  20. Thanks for all the insight. A lot to think about.
  21. I emailed Celebrity because of an issue and at first they said my cruise didn't qualify for double points. So I copied the website and sent back to them and got an email a few days later that they were wrong and it does qualify. I am saving that email for future reference.
  22. Thanks - didn't know this. However we are booked on Xploration and cabin is a "guarantee" so it doesn't show points.
  23. I am debating this cruise/tour for 2022 anyone done it? what did you like best/least? hard to tell from the description exactly what is included on the land portion as far as tours and meals, but sounds pretty inclusive (a few meals on your own and soe free time but tours/activities most days) We have never been to Alaska so want to do it all. This trip seems to cover it. Also always wanted to see that part of Canada. I looked at similar trips on a couple of other lines but this seems a little less expensive (pricing includes drinks, tips and wifi on the cruise portion too) appreciate any insight
  24. thanks all - makes a cabin upgrade look more worthwhile
  25. I booked a Galapagos cruise with the 3 day add-on in Quito, and am looking at an Alaskan cruise with land tour do you get Captains Club points for the land days, or only for the sea days?
